- Educational video describing joint dislocations of the finger.
Metacarpophalangeal joint disloctions
•Dislocations of the metacarpohalangeal joint can be either simple or complex. Metacarpophalangeal joint dislocation with volar plate injury or entrapment.
•Simple dislocations are reducible and present with hyperextension posture. Some contact remains between the base of P1 and the metacarpal head. The volar plate stays volar. Reduction can be achieved with simple flexion of the joint.
•Complex dislocations (irreducible ): widened joint space due to entrapment of the volar plate/sesamoid in the joint space. Occurs more in the index finger.
•Dorsal dislocations are the most common. Usually stable after reduction. Volar dislocation are rare and particularly unstable and require surgery.
Proximal interphalangeal joint dislocations (PIP)
•Dislocation may be dorsal or volar.
•Dorsal dislocations are usually distal with or without a small flake of bone. Immobilize in flexion.
•Volar dislocations: long finger is the most common one dislocated followed by the ring finger. volar dislocation/central slip disruption. Immobilize in extension. It results in Boutonniere deformity if not treated properly.
•Irreducible dislocation: head of P1 protrudes between the central slip and one lateral band. It creates a noose effect preventing reduction especially if excessive traction is applied.
Distal interphalangeal joint fracture dislocations (DIP)
•Dorsal dislocations without tendon rupture are rare. They are unstable and should be immobilized in some flexion. Mallet finger deformity may be associated with an avulsion fracture. The patient is unable to straighten the DIP joint due to the avulsion injury of the extensor tendon. Check the stability of the joint.
•Treatment
Mallet finger with subluxation of DIP joint is an indication for surgery. May require closed reduction and pinning of the fracture or the joint.

Well, now I know what my dislocation is called but still don't know how to treat or rehab it!!
thanks
I dislocated my pinky a couple of days ago and I’m young 13 and basketball is my life even if it is cringe and i dislocated it sideways and may have tore some ligaments I was wondering what would be the fastest way to treat it so I can play as soon as possible
I need to go hospital soon thanks for this cheers
My pinky finger has been dislocated for 5 years. It doesn’t hurt but i just hate the way it looks and I want to have it fixed now lol
A . P .
I dislocated my pinky recently
It also don’t hurt
I got a mallet
@@leannapink548 does it back to old fongers?
same problem same year what to do now?
Same for me im kinda scared its been 2 months for my pinkie
Mine has been a simple dislocation like On the 1 minute mark. There was no tear. For over 20+years. When I went to the hospital they suggested I see a hand specialist. Coming from a family with no health insurance and no financial means plus no pain and still mobility. I never had it fixed I still have movement on finger but, when I try to make a fist it doesn’t come down fully I can move the tip of the finger up to the second bone but, knuckle can bend back but not down.. should I finally see a specialist or anyone has ever fixed something like this with out surgery?
is there a posibility to heal my dislocated 2nd joint in my pinky if it has been dislocated for almost 3 years?
Dude how did that happen? Did you get it back I ?
@@RadioactiveHipsters Nope it was dislocated until now
I dont know what to do is there any operation needed for this?
@@atozrubio5958 I pulled on mine and reset it as soon as it happened and then got x rays to see if it was straight. It’s painful but healing. You might have bigger problems since it’s been so long so maybe surgery? If you can’t get it back into place yourself
Nice work, Thanks!
I just had a complete dorsal dislocation on my PIP in my index finger, while playing basketball. It looked extremely gross. I grabbed it and pulled it straight, then i won the next 2 fucking games. Minimal swelling right now just icing and aspirin. This was an extremely helpful video. Ballers ball I guess or Maybe I'm just crazy...idk.
I stubbed my index finger and I was wondering if icing it will work. So do u just have to ice it am put Aspirin on it?
bro this EXACT thing just happened to me
@@dieyuhhh6703 aspirin or ibuprofen reduce swelling when you swallow them. They won’t help if applied externally.
Note, I hope his swelling is down this many years later - just in case someone else didn’t know. Because somebody else doesn’t know.
Would you need surgery for this ?
I dislocated a pinky finger a long time ago and was wondering if it would be possible to get it back in place?
Are fingers that have been dislocated for long time able to get back and heal in their proper place, even after all the years?
Is your pinky okay?
Did you go to a doctor eventually
My pinky finger is dislocated. It can be heal pls give reply
Thank you doctor. What about lateral dislocation of the pip joint ? how can we manage it ? Plz i need answer
Thank you for another informative video!!
My pointer finger dislocated 2months ago, does this have a chance to get back in shape without surgery?
Sooo I dislocated my thumb at the base it was pushed down towards my palm its been ab 19 days sense my bike accident … so my questions how do i know if it is healing properly ? the swelling in my hand has came down alooot from what it was i pretty much sprained my hole hand & wrist , but so my thumb is still swolen it seens like and it is still kinda bruised looks like but i can’t bend it at all i can kinda sway it left right down up but i can’t bend it & kinda feels different than my other thing meaning when i touch something with my messed up thumb i dont have the same feeling as when i touch my good thumb so idk i just looking for advice to know how if it’s healing properly? How to tell ? Or Check i have been to doc it is in a cast but i take it off here and there to lightly wash it & re wrap it …any thing i should look for ?
oh thanks for this video, good info found.!
I hada dorsal injury (1:42min) playing baseball, it passed almost an year already but the finger never went back as the same. I dont know why and I am pretty sad about it. I made X-ray twice and went to the doctor. My bone is completely straight but the ligament was sprained, and I really dont understand why I have a big pinkie finger now. For sure it is better and smaller than last year but it is still very visible. Do you know what it is?
I know it might seem kinda strange seeing a reply 5 years after, but i wanna know how are you now? Similar thing happened to my index finger few months ago and it's still kinda swollen.
Peace, dude
@@Bokan96 now since it’s been 3 years for you I’d like to ask how you healed. Because I did mine about a month ago and it’s still swollen and tender but it’s getting slowly better and I try to flex it
@@RadioactiveHipsters Hey! It's fully recovered now. I also tried flexing it but only because it was irritating me that it wasn't healing fast enough.
I remember that for some time my two index fingers were a bit asymmetrical and the previously injured one couldn't bend as much but nothing to be worried about.
Finger is currently fully functional and looking same as before.
Who else is watching this with a dislocated finger
Meeeee
Hello jammed my finger and it was put back 3 weeks ago but i cannot bend my finger should i be concerned?
How’s it now?
I had dislocated my pinky like two weeks ago and was wondering how long would the sweeping last? It on my pinky but it was popped back in to place
did you have it popped back into place or did it do it on its own?
Who was treated you tell me. I was also suffering with same problem
@@srinivasyellanki7755 how was your finger now

Handcuff: oh no my kryptonite!

xStri4 x i dislocated my finger while playing too, while on adrenaline rush i pulled it and got back on his normal position then the pain came out. Xray was normal he just told me to tape it for support for a month or so. Its my 1 month now and felt the pain reducing from time to time. I even played ball while on tape coz i can resist it. 2-3 months for full recovery i guess
