  • This export terminal was established around the early 80's as the Pacific Chip Terminal along the shoreline between North Bend and Coos Bay. It's primary function is to receive wood chips from local wood products processors and export them to countries like China, Japan, Korea. Most of the chips are Douglas Fir, but I would expect there to be some alder and maple as well as limited amounts of Spruce. The vast majority of the chips are made specifically for the export trade, but there will also be quantities of chips and sawdust from mill operations.
There certainly isn't much information available on the company itself, having no website at all. I suspect that it is owned in a portfolio of companies by international operators. I tried to research the ownership through the State corporate division and the officers have Portland, Oregon mailing addresses, and has an agent named that is a "fill in" agent. That's what I call a company that handles the registrations for other companies. The "fill in" agent is Corporation Service Company, with a Salem, Oregon address. The Portland mailing address for the Oregon Chip Terminal is shared with 50 other companies, so that leads me to suspect the address in not an office for the company, but a mailroom for the agent to handle all the boring paperwork for a large number of companies. Eiji Ishiguro is the registered President and Hiroshi Joke is listed as Secretary. The names change pretty often in the history of the business registration.
They generate about $25,000 in annual tax revenue to Coos County. I have no idea what payroll they sustain, but would expect them to have around 4-6 employees, if that many. Longshoreman and Stevedores, tug operators, and fuel companies, along with supply companies such as Day Ship Supply to replenish the ordinary food and other such needs for the crew are all benefiting. Local lodging also would put up the ships crews while in port.
They are currently operating at reduced capacity due to some repairs taking place on their property.
