I feel like Mario Party 9 was meant to be the game you play when everyone's talking with each other and/or eating pizza with each other. It's a lot slower and minigames are more rare which would make sense when put into this perspective.
Ironic since MP9 was meant to go faster with the car mechanic.

It does feel like out of all the Mario Party games, 9 and 10 are much more enjoyable when you have others to play with, whereas older games, you could get away with playing against CPUs.

This game has great extra minigame modes, probably the best extras out of any Mario Party.
Probably the funniest suspense moment this game can have : is the star hovering over second place, the character cheering, then the platform falls beneath them. And the star goes to the winner.
I honestly enjoy Mario Party 9 a lot! I am happy there is another part of it!
If you guys want to buy Bowser's stage and the two hidden characters, you need to beat story mode or play all five stages at least once for just Bowser's board. However, you can buy DK's stage anytime you want.

I remember people really liking Koopa’s Tycoon Town and Shy Guy’s Perplex Express a lot more than the DK Jungle board.
They really need to, Koopa and Bowser's boards are really good. DK's is kinda the weakest one.

@@LugiatheOceanGuardian Bowser's Warped Orbit is an awesome concept with friends! Stealing each other's stars by turning into Bullet Bills and Fake Bowsers, that's great! DK's is a good board but very straightforward, limited gimmicks.
You unlock stuff through the solo mode. You can also unlock the donkey board with party points
You unlock things through a combination of buying them in the shop and by playing Solo Mode.
I.e.: One of you has to actually BEAT the game. And fair warning, it gets really hard near the end as the game stacks the odds against you.
They should hope it’s 4 players at the end and not 3, otherwise the odds definitely get stacked against them

This game is pretty fun. Playing all the minigames is great and the boards aren't so bad.
Hey Sidequest, in order to unlock Magikoopa and Shy Guy, you have to play through Solo Mode twice.
But to spice things up, you can make a vid of the team playing Solo Mode. If one wins, they can continue. If they lose, they have to pass the remote to the next player
Magikoopa was my favourite character in MP9
You only have to play though solo mode only once actually to unlock not only Magikoopa and Shy Guy but also Bowser's Star Station

I think 9 has three very big flaw that makes people not like it.
1- On the board, everything is luck based, there's little to absolutely no planning and almost no choice either
2- You get so little Mini Games through the boards. Which is a shame because the mini games are awesome in 9
3- the only items you get are dices that do different things, it's pretty underwhelming and adds to the fact that you can't plan or chose that much.
And these flaws are all tied up to the Car mechanic. So it really makes sense to why the blame's set on the car.
Not many mini game spaces...but often a dice block space also contains a minigame. The game accounts for #2.
Honestly it's fun with friends though. Especially the minigames are top tier
I'm entitled to say that Mario Party 8 is definitely better with rhe right boards of course like Shy Guy's Perplexed Express or King Boo's Haunted Hideaway. However the minigames are absolutely better in 9, also can't wait for them to do Magma Mine as to me that board was always fun especially with the halfway point mechanic 😁

This is easily my favorite mario party game since I grew up with it, but not even counting nostalgia, the bosses and minigames were great, one of my favorite things from 10 on the wii u was the fact they had bosses too! (also I get to play toad in 9 so that makes me happy)
Mario party nine is a official series on side quest. Happy to see this underrated game get some love by the people i love (no homo)

I know I’m in the minority here when I say this, but man… Mario Party 9 was the real shit. Such a classic for me. I remember whenever I got a chance to, I’d ask my parents to rent a copy of Mario Party 9 from Redbox. I would boot it up on the Wii as soon as we got home and play it for hours.
The minigames this time around were unironically some of my favorites in the entire series. They all had such unique and charming feels to them. I remember some of my favorites being Toad and Go Seek, Mecha Choice, Manor of Escape, Goomba Spotting, Pinball Fall, Logger Heads, Goomba Bowling, Chain Chomp Romp, and a bunch more of them.
The boards were also so pretty to look at. I think my favorite was Magma Mine if I remember right. But they just all felt so expansive and you could tell they had a lot of creativity put into them.
I know a lot of people don’t like how everyone was stuck in one vehicle and had to move together. Or how there were no longer minigames after everyone’s taken their turns. Or anything else regarding the new gameplay mechanics. But you know what? I liked it for what it was. It felt like something the whole family could just get right into for some quick fun and not be stuck sitting around for an eternity to finish the game. It was simplistic and did what I think it set out to do.
I own my own copy of Mario Party 9 nowadays. I still like to boot it up from time to time every now and again for nostalgia sake to play a few rounds. Because that’s how great of a game it was to me, despite how different it was from previous entries. We’ll probably never get another Mario Party game like it again. But I can still enjoy it for what it was.

One of the most overlooked parts of this game is the music. I absolutely adore the music in this game. Every boss theme is a banger, especially Now You’ve Done It and Bowser Jr.’s Mad
Im really glad you guys enjoyed this game. Mario Party 9 was my first mario party game and, even if im not huge on the kart mechanics, I think it has a very solid set of minigames

Couple stuff is locked behind the completion of Solo mode by the way, mainly Shy Guy and Kamek as playable characters, a Donkey Kong Map in the shop, and the Boss Rush Side Mode in the shop.

In answer to the question: Since I don't think anyone has said it yet, theres a "Solo" mode in this game. basically you have to play the 6 boards in order (Toad Road-Bowser Station), and beating all of the stages allows you to unlock the secret characters & also bowser board. DK board you unlock through buying it with something like 10K points I think. Also each stage when played in solo mode has a specific boss & mid boss attached to it (Blooper Beach has the cheep cheep fight, Horror Castle has King Boo, etc. etc.)

It's refreshing hearing enjoyment for Mario Party 9. Since it came out I've been willing to die on the hill that it's a great game. As long as you play with other people. The more AI players you the less enjoyable the game is. But over all the game is a lot of fun. 10, however, is a different beast and 10 deserves to have the hate that 9 got.

9 by itself is not a bad game, the problem is that it realised at the worst time since this was the biggest gap between games and it was made by a new developer, so a lot of stuff from previous games was gone, the capsule gameplay was perfect it by the 3rd game(MP7), And with 8 new set of items people assume that it was going to get refine and upgrade it to a better Item system by 9... then Item were completely gone, there's no real strategy in 9, it's just luck since you can't affect your oponents in any way besides picking a diferent path during your turn.
If 9 Gameplay was a Board in a traditional Mario Party, just like the Monopoly board in 7 and 8, I think people would be more accepting of the car.
Finally, people that agree with the idea that Mario Party 9 is a good game.

I would always play Bomb-omb Factory when playing with my friends. It has the best music and a really fun map gimmick
You should give 8 another chance with another board cause all boards have different rules and gimmicks. The Boo’s Mansion and Boswer board should be ones to be given a chance and maybe even the Koopa hotel one afterwards.
The Boswer one especially cause I think all players start off with stars and the main gimmick is to keep stealing stars from each other by using Bullet Bull and Boswer candy. Boo’s mansion is a maze maze that changes after every star is gotten and you can’t see the map until someone has entered the room at least once. Also Donkey and Boswer spaces do different things each board, you guys just played the easy board with less risky stuff.
Boswer board is unlocked by playing the single player mode and there’s even a final boss at the end.
The Bowser board is great but Tycoon Town is easily the best board, they would love it.

When you brought up roasted mushrooms at 12:38 I thought of the idea of a toad who survived a deadly explosion or volcano or some sort of heat-related thing, and has a burnt mushroom head. It’s a cool idea for a survivor toad. I may create fanart of a toad who survived a tragic natural disaster or something.

0:20 Unfortunately for one of those stages, you have to play solo mode until you beat the final stage in that mode; but hey you also unlock Magikoopa and Shy Guy afterwards sooo.
The other, just play until you have enough party points, then go to the museum to buy the last stage.

I know this is a little late but I'm fairly certain that like 8 the extra boards and characters are locked behind the single player mode. At least that's how I did it but I could be wrong.
EDIT: So I just looked, you can get the boards without completing the story mode but shy guy and magikoopa are both locked behind the story mode. Bowser's castle you can unlock by playing every board in the party mode (expect the DK one) and the DK board you get by having enough party points to buy it.

A hill I will die on is that this would be the best Mario Party game if it had a more traditional gameplay style...
You need to play trough solo mode if you want to unlock bowser's station & the two hidden characters, there is a boss rush mode if you beat all bosses once & purchase it in the museum for 500 & finally to unlock DK Jungle purchase it in the museum for 500.
there is also unlockable cars for the boards in the museum as well.
Glad we are getting some mario party 9 love. I have never played 8 so I can't say wether 9 is better or worse, but either way I think it's pretty good.

I think doing solo mode together would be cool. Like taking turns during mini games and events. The solo stuff is fun and can be challenging
Mario Party 9 is one of my favourite Mario parties ever (but my favourite is DS). I think it has some of the best minigames ever, visually is super colorful and pleasant and the board game I don't think is that bad. And I'm gonna throw a theory: All the minigames theme are based on the boards.
My cousin would waste genuine minutes shaking the wiimote before rolling just to irritate us it added like 10-15 minutes to any game we played getting him to just roll the stinkin' dice
