Lew (unbox therapy) used to give genuine opinions for a few years at the beginning. Then he got popular by that iphone bending video. A couple of years later, he figured out that it's time for making money... became a puppet of the brands and his s**tshow is still running.

MKBHD isn't that much more positive in the review of the Rabbit R1. Both AI devices are solving a problem that doesn't exist, & could already be solved by your smartphone. And I wouldn't be surprised if it was revealed later that both devices actually have 1000 Indians working in the background helping users with their queries, rather than an AI.
In MKBHD's review of the Rabbit, he tricked it into admitting it had a location tracking feature, which the AI then desperately tried to lie about.
He's probably not the first to have figured that out, he's just the first person I've seen mentioning it.

One of the funniest parts of the AI Pin is that a lot of aspects of it were exceptionally well executed, but exactly none of those had anything to do with the actual functioning of the device lol
put a kitty as a mascot and you win against all the competition
I dont have much care about either product but Rabbit won me as much as it would by having more of personality in its design and the rather charming lil mascot

the rabbit is essentially end stage pokedex. it can use a camera to tell you weird shit about animals...but that's just 1 thing out of like 5 things it does.

The AI is really smart. That is clearly a shoe.
To anyone who knows even a little about basic AI software, product design, etc. it was pretty obvious the Rabbit would win here.
For one, its cheap, for two, they explicitly said no subscriptions or anything meaning itd all need to be computed locally, for three the entire product is clearly and intentionally designed to be an anti-phone.
Its a product with a real vision and goal behind it that clearly have put in the leg work to make it happen. The entire product is designed from the ground up to be a no-frills anti-phone, so its offering the disconnected dumbphone like experience without actually sacrificing smartphone functionality.
Doubt I'll get one over something like a Fir Libr em 5 or maaaybe a Fairphone 5 if it has good mainline linux support, but even so I can appreciate when a product has a real vision behind it.

Honestly for $200 I would prefer a pokedex rather then the rabbit. At least dexter actually gives off attitude when answering ( English version at least. Not sure about original Japanese version).

I really don't understand what such a device adds over a phone which everybody already has. Maybe if they can make one you can wear on your head without looking ridiculous and it could interface with your phone it would add something. I use ChatGPT on my phone a lot and when it's noisy or if I'm between people in a silent environment I can still use the keyboard to use it. Did the designers really never think about obvious things like this?!
At that price and size, just use ur phone
