girl if your contractor buys something completely different from what you requested, they should be paying to replace it, not you.
Your contractor should carry E&O (errors and omissions) insurance. This should cover the cost of what you paid for the countertop to be applied to the countertop you actually want.
Contractors should also be confirming with you prior to any purchase for your home.
I would definitely book a home inspection with a home inspector to confirm that the installations have been done up to par, because all around this sounds very sketchy.

@@Ummmmmmmmtoast especially the whole plumbing situation. Sounds like they accidentally hit a pipe when demoing. Why she would have to pay, when they made the mistake and didn’t even turn off the water has me wondering who these people are.
Not to mention they are blurred and don’t have any identifying company marks. Wouldn’t you want free publicity?
Something seems amiss, I couldn’t recommend a home inspector to make sure everything has been done enough.
You shouldn’t settle for the countertop nor should you be charged , contractor made the mistake not you . It’s his responsibility to confirm w/you on any purchase. It should be in your contract w/him . I do like the countertop though .
I was thinking the same thing! Like I would have had them take that whole countertop off and replace it. I’m not about to spend money on something I didn’t ask for. I do love the look tho 💕

I used to work for a general contractor. I always suggest getting multiple quotes. Also read your contract very carefully, and a good contractor will never install something that the client has not approved. Lastly, to me your countertops look like it’s quartz not marble.

Although the worktop is not what you envisioned nor asked (which is the contractors fault 100%), I don't recommend marble worktops, mostly because they stain very easily (if you drop coffee, tomato, etc., you won't be able to remove the colour fully), and are also very fragile, imagine you accidentally dropped a plate on top of the worktop, most likely it will leave a little mark. I know from experience because our old kitchen used to have marble, and we said never again.
Worktops I recommend are Porcelain (#1 for sure), then I would say Granite or Quartz, and lastly Silestone. They are more practical but also pretty worktops.
Hopefully you also get a new contractor though.. they seem sketchy af. My dad is an electrician, and if he breaks something accidentally, he gets it fixed and then claims from his insurance, but NEVER from the client!!!!

You can always just install a cute little curtain in front of the washer. And if it gets dirty or oil splashes on it just throw it in the washer and its easy to clean. Also VERY customizable!
If you want to cover up the black sides of the fridge you can use stick and peel wallpaper. That way you can also add some color if you want
I think you need to put your foot down with some of these people. You are paying so much money and I think you’re making too many compromises! You should be getting exactly what you want .
i love this series sm as someone who also bought a house this year and is doing a lot of cosmetic rennos! you may want to consider keeping the door on the washer/dryer for noise reasons!! hope you're enjoying the process!!
I suggest putting the doors back in front of the laundry. I have an open laundry in my kitchen and it's so loud! At least with the door you can kinda muffle it.

This is what i was going to say as well. I think it looks good without the doors, but the noise is defo a bit of a problem!
I think the kitchen needs a counter depth fridge, it's a bit big in the space with those black sides, or maybe a white fridge that size would look better.

You can also wallpaper fridges with peel & stick! I saw Alexandria gater do this!

In a lot of the newer apartments in the states they put them in the kitchen (you might see one in a bathroom occasionally).
It's pretty common in the US too but I think it's a sign of older apartment or condo complexes. The newer ones do separate them a little from the kitchen area.
My washer & dryer are in a closet between my kitchen & bathroom- where all the plumbing is running.

Okay girlie if that's not the counter you wanted, RETURN THAT ISH! That's what the contractors are supposed to take care of. Secondly, as a first time home owner myself, I'm thoroughly invested in this journey!

Polished tile is beautiful but I dont recommend using it in the kitchen or bathrooms!! They are SO slippery! Oil splashes, drips of water, spray oils, air fresheners will all make it a crazy hazard (trust me from experience lol)
I love under mounted sinks but be careful because it is super easy to chip the edges of the countertops (quartz, granite, marble etc) and those types of countertops stain like crazy!! (I cook mostly south Asian food and turmeric is a demon to get out, luckily the pink stuff and power paste work miracles)

Watching all the compromises you are making just makes me hope for that dream home to manifest for you in the future so that you can truly get EVERYTHING you want exactly the way you want it!! 😭 This seems so frustrating and I'm sorry... Hopefully the experience with the condo will give you lots of experience with how to get exactly what you want next time when you have more freedom to make changes and to also confirm what you want.
About the countertops: you could always paint the veins in, i saw mia maples do this on her chanel and it turned out really good!
aa the gap near the cabinets where the microwave was supposed to go, i would ofplaces some cooking books in there to add some colour!
The condo is coming along nicely! Even though submitting for wall/pipe/wiring changes might be an arduous process, it might still be worthwhile to go for it! You can go for load bearing columns for any major weight-bearing walls and maybe work the pipes/wiring around those.
I watched xo McCenna's kitchen reno where she makes her own cabinet fronts right before watching this and she went with the same cabinet style but added some decorative trim at the seams to make it look a little softer. I think if you get tired of the more modern look adding the trim would be a super cute detail!
Take a shot every time she says "how much am I really going to be cooking?" 😂 Love seeing your journey and how you've been handling all the issues that have been coming up along the way. Hope this process gets easier as you get closer to the finish line!

i think the reno is going as well as it can be for your first try!! in future renos I would look into specifying kitchen millwork that has a fridge enclosure/fridge cabinet as an option if you want to “hide” the side of the fridge, this will allow for the upper cabinets to be flush with the front of the fridge (easier to access) vs. right now they are flush with regular 12” deep upper cabinets. good luck with the rest of your reno 💞

you definitely need a backsplash, your walls will be filty from cooking otherwise, especially if you rent it out.
You can paint 'veins' on your counter top too! There are many tutorials on CZcams and I myself got them painted ( on plain marble) , looks legit !!
Laundry door is really helpful for noise ! Our apartment has a similar lay out and the laundry is so loud with out the door

Also the whole countertop mishap, I relate so much!! Cause last year we too had a kitchen reno and I had so many ideas n while selecting the designs it's all became a mess and nothing went according to what I initially thought. So I just kinda accepted that I wasn't blessed by the pinterest gods🥲 and went along with it

I didn’t watch any episodes till today and didn’t wanna start with number 7, so I just finished all the previous episodes and am now excited for this one!
Theres magnetic decoration sheets/panels for refrigerators to disguise their original colors if you dont like them

Been waiting for this for so long
Not gonna lie I lost a little faith with that contractor, I would just make sure to go out of your way to confirm everything in the future is what you want, and ask them for updates and when you can look at the samples, but they should be coming to you with samples for that countertop and I’m not sure why they didn’t, I would bring up the countertops to them and confirm what it is they installed and what can be done, if anything maybe look at a new contractor, because it’s not what you confirmed yet they are gonna still put that charge with you, while looks like they did good job, it makes me question some of the mishaps in the past as well, I would also confirm from several people about opening up that wall or the washer and dryer in case, also make sure to get everything inspected, and that your contractor has insurance!
I feel like they are just cheaping out and getting what’s fastest or available fastest tbh and I question the countertop situation and if it’s marble as well, did you choose the layout for the kitchen drawers and shelves because I wonder especially if they added that one ledge if they are just doing whatever or a standard layout especially since they knew where the old microwave was
Also think another fridge in the space would be nice, the current one doesn’t have water either, and they make those compact now, you really wouldn’t be losing too much space with one that stick out the same as the drawers and counters or wall and doesn’t jut out past that, if possible one where you can add the same fronts as the rest of the fronts in the kitchen could be really nice, also maybe ask your contractor to send some crown molding samples your way maybe you can find a big enough one to close the gap at the top of the shelves

OMG this series is seriously so entertaining! Not meaning that all the problems you had with the condo so far is entertaining. More like you doing a big project like this and challenging yourself like this is great to see! I totally root for you and hope everything will work out well! If the next episode is hour long, I would totally watch it!
I have a small kitchen too and switching my fridge to a COUNTER DEPTH fridge made such a difference giving us more room

I know you've probably already installed a door (I haven't finished the video yet) but for the cubby hole that looks like it's for a microwave, you could install a glass door if that fits

That range hood looks a bit too big for that space. I honestly don’t think you need one that big. We have a microwave hood and it works fine.
In my apartment my laundry is right in the kitchen too and no grease gets on it and it rlly doesn’t bother me as much as it did at first 😊 I would say leave the door off it’s way less hassle! Convenience is key lol

If you really dont like the counter tops you can get like stick one which are made for bathrooms and kitchen tops and you just stick it on and you can choose whatever pattern you want if you now what I mean and sorry for my writing I do not speak englisch love u❤

For the laundry space, instead of a door maybe you could put blinds? That way it’ll look neat when you’re not using it and when you do have to use the machines you just need to pull up the blinds!

I might be too late but maybe try putting a curtain instead of a door for the laundry space so it's closed off but not 100% closed and you could add color that way ?

In the uk you can get washer & dryer in one machine. Can you got get these in Canada?
You should of got one to save space! Then you could of ran the counter top along the top of it
