Through my 10 year struggle I came to the conclusion there was a immense correlation between gut-health and mental disease, which is overlooked by BigPharma; hearing Ren's journey strengthens my beliefs

50yr old autistic person here - Ren's just saying whatever the Lyme and subsequent problems the auto-immune issues were allowing/causing to happen, were mimicking certain issues associated with autism - as apparently happens with the PANDAS cases & streptococcus infections.
I'm not up to date with what's known about PANDAS so I'm trying not to speak out of turn or give incorrect info (& please give priority to folks who have 1st hand knowledge of PANDAS over anything I say here), but the idea is that when the appropriate antibiotics are given, it suppresses the streptococcus bacteria sufficiently that the patient's symptoms go into remission. However, the underlying problem is that the bacteria can persist/"hole up" in parts of the body where antibiotics don't "reach." The streptococcus continues to reproduce from there, but while the patient is on the antibiotics, the antibiotics eliminate the bacteria that travel out into the rest of the body, reducing the load in the body sufficiently that symptoms are reduced or even disappear.
Once the course of antibiotics is done, the reproduction of the bacteria that have been "hiding" re-colonizes the body, and symptoms return.
This is what Lyme is too, except it's a different antibiotic that is properly effective to deal with it - which is why Ren saw exciting improvements, but not FULL improvements while he was on the penicillan, and then backslid into pain and exhaustion when the antibiotics were done.
But the fact that they had made temporary improvements he'd never seen before was proof that his problems were caused by some kind of bacteria... otherwise the antibiotics wouldn't have caused any improvement.
Meanwhile, autism itself is not something you can *catch.* You're either born autistic or you born allistic (without autism); it's a genetic thing. It's thought that 80% of all autism is directly inherited (other possibilities exist that can cause the genetic combos that result in an autistic brain).
Autism is often comorbid with learning disabilities of various sorts, but it itself is not a learning disability and it does not need to co-occur with any.
Back to PANDAS and Lyme and things that can hide from your immune system and treatments - research is now showing that SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid19, can persist in some of these areas of the body where the immune system can't clear it. Bacterial infections aren't the only infections that can hide out from your immune system and treatments. HIV-AIDS is the best-known one, and it's also why some kinds of cancer are so hard to treat - it's hard to deliver the chemo to some of these areas of the body.
We just don't know yet how common viral persistance of SARS-CoV-2 is, nor what its long-term effects will be on the body. Antibiotics don't work on viruses; antivirals are what are used, both for HIV and for Covid. We're just in the early days of figuring out effective Covid antivirals.

We all hurt for Ren's trauma but we sometimes forget about his family. Watching someone you love literally disappearing before your eyes with no idea how to help or what to do would've been so painful. There's a video of Ren on the phone with his Mom after he got the #1 album and you can hear the joy. I can't imaging what it's like for her to see him now but she must be just busting with pride.

Thanks Eddie - I appreciate you're taking the time to watch these videos and paying attention to detail.
You are 100% right, you will be light years ahead of new Ren reactors who do not have the benefit of Ren's life story and will have a much better perspective on his music going forward.

My maternal heart broke for him when I watched the live, and it was tough to watch again so soon after, but I'm enjoying (if 'enjoying' is the right word) watching them 'with' you again. You're getting a special introduction to Ren, not only because you are learning about his actual life, but also because you're getting to hear songs that most reactors - even those who have been reacting to him for over a year - haven't heard. I think when you get to react to the many gems that he has created, it's going to be a much richer experience. ❤

This one was the hardest yet. Ren is an amazingly strong human to have gone through all that and still keep fighting.
As a mother my heart broke for his, she must be so proud ❤❤❤

This was definitely the toughest chapter. So. Much. Pain. Physical and mental. I’ve somehow been able to hold it together for the previous chapters but that image of his mum singing lullabies for him and just being there as best she could to comfort him sent some tears rolling down my cheeks. I’m glad he didn’t end the chapter before reaching the point of hope.
Also I am glad he mentioned Crutch. It’s one of my personal favourites yet it doesn’t get nearly the attention it deserves. It’s also very different from everything else in his catalogue and I highly recommend checking it out.

Scariest thing for all of us living with these incurable and poorly understood chronic health issues (and our families) is that it's almost unbelievable to feel like you are dying and have no help. To be so ill that you cannot live and expect to die from it, and have no medical help because they don't know what to do, or actively don't believe you have a physical/biological issue and only treat it as a mental disorder.
I have frequently been too ill to go to A&E (the ER) because I just can't cope with the exertion of being in a hospital that won't help me anyway. It's terrifying to be so vulnerable.
Ren articulates it all so well.

I don’t actually know if distance would b easier if someone u love passes away. I feel like it wouldn’t be but really don’t know. I think if u were away I’d be racked w guilt that u weren’t there for them…. 🤷‍♀️
