I shred this video in a Facebook group I’m in. This video is definitely needed for newer people. Thoughts on doing a simple and quick video on the install of it? Surprisingly- that video is needed as well for a few people I have helped. Thanks for the video
Hi Jeff. You are right about this. I realized after I shot it how few videos walk people through ugs. Ypu. it is on my list high at the top.
Sounds daft, but these r the simple things that need showing to people, and they will appreciate it so much man!
I Luv that u have all skill levels of tutorials man, well done, n ty
Hey Cyp (yeah, I'm shortening your name), isn't it funny. I never realized how much people sometimes need it. I mean, we all start out as babies. Most people forget from whence they come.
Daft like spelling like a child ? Is it really hard to spell words properly ?
I've recently subscribed. I like your videos and I am really up on the fence between a Longmill CNC/laser setup or a Foxalian (w/out CNC)/ Longmill laser setup because I like the different lenses setup.
One of my stopping points on the Longmill setup is it is already at the VERY limit of what I want to spend without buying a program to run it.
I don't understand the need for all these various programs. Can you just run everything off of this g-sender FREE program and maybe another Free program to edit pictures like Inscape and then just upload the file into g-sender and get the laser or router to do its thing?
I'm about to hit the buy now button on one of the two and I really would value your opinion.
I am also looking at going the 12x30 route and maybe in the future buying the longer 30" rails. Is that an option with Sienci Labs?
Hi Iwan. You need 3 programs. Design, CAM, and router controller software. You can use other software but you have to have CAM to write the g-code. There are free software for every aspect.
Great software I use for many years ! Let us know how use probbing in next vidéo, thanks !
Hi Jeo. I'll get prode setting on the list. I have just realized how few videos are out there for ugs.
grade video! but i got one question i hope you can answer.
when i open a file, the starting point is at the top left position and i need it to be on the down left.
is there a way to change it?
Rafael, if you are at the point of loading your project to Universal Gcode Sender then there is no way to change it at that point. You will have to change it in the design software.
Great Video!!! But I have a Problem with connecting my cnc. all The settings COM port etc. is all correctly steetd i think but it will not connect. i have CNC3018 With GBRL an have no idea whats to try. have you any idea or tipp for me to fix this?
Tyrocraft, here's a guide on how to set it up on Windows! I think you'll find it helpful! Here's the link: docs.sainsmart.com/article/7c20d7zaw3-how-to-install-candle-grblcontrol-for-windows.
You....are......GREAT!
Thanks 😊. Now I'll open the box.
What's life worth without enjoying a little mischief. Whether you like it or not, you have become my BFF. That comes with the privilege of calling me 'BILL' (please?).
Tomorrow's the grand opening of the Bob's R4.....news at 11.
Hey William, can't wait to hear "It's together!"
Interestingly, you openned up a gold mine of videos to make. ther are so few videos about UGS that I have to do my stuff to help people through it.
Firstly, ty for your amazing videos... My question is this ... When I set my job away using ugs, I put a clear cover over for safety, can I hit the pause button to hoover sawdust away n then will it just resume. Ty
TLB, that will work no problem. Once you hit play again, the machine will start back up where it stopped.
@@IDCWoodcraft ty my friend
Garrett, is there a way to have the UGS program scroll the g code while it's running a file? Thanks for the help and your time.
Jim, there isn't a feature for UGS on that one brother. It would be a nice upgrade!
@@IDCWoodcraft Thanks, Garrett.
A question can I use UGS and run two separate machines, not at the same time, and will it save settings for both. My CNC and my Drawbot.
Dickie Fritz, great question! What I would recommend is after you download the UGS zip file, extract that file into two different locations, one for your CNC and one for your drawbot. That way you can have macros and settings saved for both machines in different locations.
Although technically you could use the same instance of UGS for both machines, it might cause issues with your macros designed for your CNC interfering with your DrawBot.
Thank you sir,am facing a problem, after some idle time ugs not working,I have to reboot, please let me know is there any sleep time for ugs
UGS has some bugs that pop up from time to time. Or your USB port is 'going to sleep' too soon.
Thank you Garrett from an old man from Sweden! retired and own my first CNC 1419 since 3 days ago! there are many questions, how to do it
should I become a member?
Hey Mike, I'm glad the videos have been helpful! First of all, welcome to the amazing world of CNC! I'm glad to help. I suggest you start by downloading this PDF. It has all the videos I've made for beginners. I think you'll definitely find it super helpful. Click on this link here → bit.ly/3mLHGfI and it will download. Just start right at the top of the list. You'll get there!
I would love to see a video on how to get started with UGS. I want to use another software with my x carve Thanks David
Hey David. I may do that down the road for you. It'll be a while though
@@IDCWoodcraft That would be great Thank You
Hi, In which program is the G code made? so that the machine can read it and machine the piece
G code is made in the Vectric software
Hey Garrett, can you make an adjustment to say depth to the G-Code?
You can edit the gcode whenever you want. Can't do it in UGS though. Have to do it externally
@@IDCWoodcraft ya that would be nice to pause and adjust Z up or down 1mm
@@markgarrett2971 with some controller software, you can edit gcode whole in prices. Not ugs
I’ve been UGS for about 6 months now, I like it a lot but lately it has stopped responding! I think it’s a Windows thing because the screen just goes blank and I get the message “program not responding “ and have to shut it down and start over. I’ve uninstalled and installed a new version but still happens, sometimes in just a few minutes sometimes it’ll run for a couple of hours. Haven’t got this one figured out yet. On another note, talking about editing gcode I ran across this little program that looks like it can be a lifesaver!

@@rbwoodwork1890 oh, this looks interesting. I'm going to explore it.
Ugs does have it's bugs for sure
Does UGS need to be installed EVERYTIME it's opened ? I have never been able to static install it. Unsure why an app or software would be like that.
SpasticJackson, no you shouldn't need to install it every time. I'm sorry I don't know the cause of this one brother!
how do you preview animate your toolpaths in ugs? Is it possible to do a preview?
Hi Byron. Unfortunately I no longer use ugs. It's too old and clunky. I now use g sender. Much better and so much easier to use.
But how do you start the spindle motor going? If I follow these instructions the bit just hits the board and it errors out. In the other software I used there was a motor on/off button. I would have thought that starting the motor should be part of the run code...... Unless I have not got it set up right.
cowasakiElectronics, this one is a little too tricky to answer over comment but I recommend joining Kate, Kyle, and I for our youtube live session this evening at 8PM EST. We should be able to help walk you through it!
@@IDCWoodcraft thank you for your offer but it’s the middle of the night for me. I’ve thought of a way since posting the question. I’m going to add a couple of macros with M03/4 and M06 Gcode. I THINK that that might do it. Then if that works I need to find a way to automatically add that in my gcode for each program. I’m hoping I’m going down the right route :-) Thanks
Is universal G-code sender free? I use candle which is free. Very similar setup except all of the options are on the right in candle. I would like to see more instruction on the senders. I probably should not admit this but I have no idea why you should use the home button. I just set my x,y,z and let her rip.
Hi alex. It's just a hanit to send it home. Been doing it for years. UGS is free. I'll check out candle
When hitting run, the spindle will not turn on? Do I need to add a g-code to turn it one?
Justicescales123, you might have the wrong post processor setup brother! I recommend reaching out to your machine manufacturer regarding your specific issue. They will be able to better help you on this one my friend!
I have recently tried this program and it hangs after milling a couple of inches.
Managed to get code to run after turning off (controller state dro)
Thenibbler, very interesting brother. Happy to hear you got it sorted.
How do I delete a saved toolpath from the UGS?
Randy, unless you saved them as separate files, you'll have to change it in Vetric brother.
which one is better g code or m code?
Amrsamer, they are both great programming languages brother! The most important thing is figuring out what one works for your machine and just using that.
Hell I can’t even figure out how to get the dam ugs even up! It’s installed but I see no exe file to open the dang thing!
That is quite strange. It should show up.
What threw me off was I saw .ugs in programs but no bin file. So After pulling my hair out…… I looked in downloads and I extracted it in downloads and the bin file was in that location! Which then I was able to locate the exe file to run it. I pined that sucker everywhere! So I’ll be able to run it!
@@trialnterror I'm really glad you were able to find the file. That was frustrating.
This view disappeared and an abbreviated version showed up. And nothing works. Anyone have any idea where this view went?
debbiebarnett5729, im sorry to hear this happened to you my friend. Consider switching to gSender, it has an interface that might be easier to use for you! Here is a link: sienci.com/gsender/?ref=idcwoodcraft
Sir i need to help I can't connect ugs to aurduino board. Im from India 🇮🇳. How can I connect give me feedback. Please wait fr u
Hi. I didn't use ugs. It's old and clunky You will find gsender much better and will automatically connect
@@IDCWoodcraft ok thnx I'll be try it
Sir I try it and g sender is connect but visualizer is not connecting. I was all every step check like g sender help platform. AI.. I can't find what is the main issue.. Give me other solution. I'm helpless. Please sir
G code generated in SOLIDWORKS is not compatible with ugs, what is the solution sir
Likely because solid works creates a format UGS cannot read. Enter the file using wordpad and resave to a txt doc. the other reason may be that solid works is using gcode that are advanced. Those codes will be inthe very beginning of the gcode file. I would have to see the file and know what CNC router you're using to answer better.
@@IDCWoodcraft hi is there a way to save to USB as I have a standalone controller ddcs2.1 and need to load from USB I must be missing something the only software free I can find that works is open builds finding it very difficult as a beginner..
