It was canceled :( If you manage to survive the lane phase (much easier at top) he shreds the enemy team while being pretty tanky (I hate glass cannon build), but it's so frustrating to literally not being able to trade with any single champion in the entire game because of the ridiculous mana costs.

2011-2015 ryze was best ryze can't believe nobody talks about him. The lifesteal on his ult was so much fun :(

2015-2016 was the most fun keyboard mashing Ryze moment my friend was defending the base with Ryze they had 3 inhibitors he used his ult 6 times while defending was great

I started playing on release of wukong...aka 2010 and I remember that skins were like 70 rp
Always liked Ryze's concept, even if I don't play LoL much. He was one of the more interesting ideas for a mage: one channeling a storm, a constant stream of power instead of the usual 'whizz-whizz-bang, ult' kind of mages. Didn't play around with this second version, but got some experience with first version (sucking badly enough to quit at the time) and current version. It's fun, interesting, and nice to see they managed to stay mostly true to his initial concept and kit while balancing it overall.
That said, can't say I'm a fan of his backstory now. The older one was far superior. But that's Rito for ya, suppose.
I know this comment is 5 years old but the fact you think the old ryze lore is better than the current lore is crazy to me 😂 the old lore is literally just crazy old guy learns all about magic and has a big secret!
The best game I ever had was with the first Ryze. A 4v5 ranked game with an afk in our team. All game I had to rotate top, mid, bot almost no time to base, all lanes were losing. After a few rotations on the map they all came mid where I killed all of them and they surrendered. Best game ever!
I miss that Ryze where his R would empower all his abilities and you could just nuke anyone

I started playing in 2015 ryze and it was so good... It felt so good to play that champion. The current one we have has good visual effects and better splash arts, but the kit is not good for soloq... and it doesnt feel nice to play him anymore. I really hope they revert

2011-2015 was the funnest Ryze ever was. You had massive life steal ult, felt like you powered up anime style, and was not as tedious to play as today. Everything after has felt like a letdown from his original vibes.

I mained ryze starting in the spring 2016 when I first started playing up until his rework, I climbed from bronze 4 to platinum 4 with him, with over 600 ranked ryze games, 500k+ mastery - you are missed my friend RIP

This is missing the very first incarnation of Ryze, which had Desperate Power power as passive scaling with how much HP he lost, a passive on W giving extra magic damage on attacks and Spell Flux as Ult."Release" Ryze was in fact the first major rework.
Yeah, I tought that I was crazy. I remember spell flux being his ult and there was a toogle ability that would change your auto attacks to make it stronger! I can't find videos of this version of Ryze anywhere. Tought is was just my imagination LOL

Season 5-6 (before rework) was the best being able to chain stun upto 3 times in 4 rotations and he clued actually be useful in team fights without minions...

I'm pretty sure it's not his first iteration. I remember he had a big jumping ball (basically early version of spell flux but it could jump onto Ryze himself, kinda like Brand ultimate) as his ultimate at first

Playing 2015 Ryze was basically just like playing Audition. U didn't need to understand the skill, just pressed with combo.
And ryze getting a rework in patch 8.9
