Have you ever wondered why an English speaker will choose to speak in present perfect rather than in simple past? Like, why say, “I have visited Japan.” Instead of just saying, “I went to Japan.” Or, why does a person say, “I have got a prize at the fair” when this action is already completed! Well, there are five important reasons for English speakers to choose present perfect grammar and this all has to do with the emphasis of experience, expectations, change over time, repetition over time and achievement. In order to understand this much better in the context of IELTS, watch this video. IELTS tests your ability to use complex and natural language, and present perfect grammar is certainly an important part of this.
