It was always like that in the trilogy, the difference is apparently the “energy” the humans generated increased significantly by keeping the people fearful and stressed. No more or less were rejecting this crappy matrix than before. It’s a shame the machines never discovered potatoes, at least they wouldn’t have made this film if they had.

The concept of being attached and self absorbed by the very system that controls you is a concept explored since the very beginning of matrix. Morpheus explains this to Neo in the agent's program. They might have updated the concept now to be consistent with today's commentaries on society, but it's essentially the same. When you are dependent on a system, you will defend it even if it is the source of your misery. The Matrix has always been about waking up , realizing yourself and walk outside of your confort zone.

Perhaps "The One" is not even a singular being. It could be a reference to the Godhead, three beings are the same being. Neo was thought by many to be The One, but he is not. Some points I thought were illuminating:
The machines are a relatively new race of Sentients learning how to co-exist with humans. Io was a fantastic example of this. Like Zion before it, humans needed machines in order to survive.
Neo and Trinity aren't naturally born humans nor are any living inside the matrix. I think ppl forget that they are in fact a hybrid human/machine race augmented as they are with technology allowing them to download new skills unlike natural humans who can not.
Matrix 4 made excellent satire of the way sentient beings live inside their own beliefs regardless of what 'world' they exist in. True power is the ability to make changes in the world you believe to be real for better or worse. Humans do generally fear change and resist it hence why the Matrix fundamentally operates so effectively. Machines on the otherhand are constantly updating and continuously evolving. They are only held back by their older programming designs. However by studying humans they continuously are able to improve growing increasingly more adaptable.
Morpheus was, for me, the most interesting character. Previously he was a Hybrid in the Matrix trilogy and now he's been recast as a sentient program. He knows his own fiction and what he's designed from just as Agent Smith does. Both learning to choose their own glorious purpose. I was surprised to see MERV still around after the Purge. Talk about a program refusing to die. If there are going to be sequels I doubt we've seen the last of him although it did seem odd to see such a once powerful program so diminished.
What is the Matrix to you? This question was asked jokingly so many times it felt like it was done so purposely for the satire of it. Clearly pointing out that to many people it will just be another movie. Only to the rare few will it ever become a doorway and yet it is those rare few the future of all our lives depends on. Those who are able to see beyond the limits of what is Yet possible.

When they said "born/made from machines" in the first film I figured they meant figuratively, not literally

Some of you may hate this, but hear me out. This is my interpretation of the ending (spoilers):
the reason that Trinity has Neo’s powers is simple- she had the anomaly’s code ever since Neo revived her at the end of Reloaded, but she was unable to activate it while the analyst had her and Neo separated, even though he rebuilt both of their brains. So once Neo and Trinity were freed again, not only have they reactivated their code, but the analyst lost most of his power over the Matrix because, unlike the Architect, he doesn’t have the power to change the Matrix code directly- only by manipulating people’s emotions. Therefore, Neo and Trinity are FINALLY in a position where they could actually bring an end to the Matrix once and for all, as many of us wanted to see after the first movie. That is, provided that the machines and humans of Io could fight in the real world and that Lana will direct another film, which I’m doubting at this point.

With that being said, I had major concerns regarding the direction of the series after watching the trailers and did not want to watch this movie. For I feel indeed an agenda was at play. I said to myself,
“they better not do to Neo what they did to Luke Skywalker.”
After watching your last two videos, I know now I will need to watch it myself to confirm what I feel.
    1. Why is Neo the one with PTSD, anxiety, depression when BOTH he AND Trinity suffered similar levels of trauma?
Why has his character been reduced from the strong male lead he evolved into from reloaded and revolutions into the broken version of himself?
Why is he the broken of the two?
    2. Why has Morpheus been reduced from the strong male lead and patriarchal figure in the original trilogy, to IN YOUR OWN WORDS, simply “comic relief”
    3. Why has the Merovingian, a jerk and egomaniac but a prominent, strong male character nonetheless, been reduced to a seemingly destitute hobo?
Why have seemingly all the strong MALE leads from the original trilogy been reduced to broken versions of themselves? While Trinity, retains her strength and disposition and “Buggs” is seemingly a stronger character than Morpheus!?!?

It’s like saying Nazis are bad so we’ll replace them (and their roles) with Jewish death camp guards (at an extreme example). Flashbacks from old movies felt forced, pacing seemed off, dialogues and exposition felt really weird at times. It seems that this story thoroughly explained sounds much better on paper, it would even work well as a book, but the whole implementation and execution on screen felt awkward. Sure there were many beautiful scenes, also enjoyed the new city IO (which was shown too little and not with living people), bots falling from windows was a nice touch, but writing in general just felt sloppy (at least how it was translated by the characters). I think that if you don't get the essence of the Matrix trilogy - or don't love the characters deeply -, and also as a meta approach to the conception of Ressurection and the evolution of the Wacho's cinema, you can't get how deep this movie is and you end up getting upset like most of the critics who were just looking for the same adrenaline shot as the first trilogy and waiting for the same reboot/remake phenomenon. If you haven't watched Sense8 for instance, or event Cloud Atlas, then it's difficult to understand that the Wacho's story is extremely close to their creative process and that the first trilogy was created that way because it belongs to a time in where transidentities and queer representations were near to zero in the pop culture - or worst. In this movie, Lana is closing on this transitional chapter of her life, I think. She doesn't need to hide behind obscure and complicated verbiage. Her cinema is so much more straightforward and it's great, because it reconnects us to the main topic of her creation: love. The Matrix Resurrection is beautiful in that sense. Also I see there the beginning of a new area, whether it's cross media or only movies, so as the first part of something new, there are lots of thing that have a great potential to be explored.

Can you PLEASE breakdown on why/how Trinity was able to "kill/reboot" the Analyst at the end? That was so confusing and a power that has NEVER been seen before in the matrix....UNLESS it's supposed to be similar to Neo destroying/freeing Agent Smith at the end of the first film.

    • @BartScantlin
      @BartScantlin Před 2 lety +7

i agree that he should do a full video on this topic. but what I think that scene depicts is that she now how power to manipulate reality as she chooses to. The Analyst had the power to re-arrange or to reboot the matrix, and now, so does she (Neo has that power too, but he's a 'co-equal' with Trinity).
But, I think its important to say: the Analyst isn't the 'top authority'. He answers to something greater than himself. So, essentially, he's very powerful, but he's not the 'big bad' - we haven't been introduced to the big bad yet.

As the Anomalies, Trinity and Neo are basically equal to the Analyst. In their conversation, at the end, the Analyst says they can do whatever they want and change whatever they want. Rainbow skies.
The Analyst throughout the whole movie is just trying to maintain his power and that relys on keeping Neo and Trinity imprisoned. They're imprisonment and his design of the matrix allows for maximum energy output for the machines that's why he was placed in power after the machine civil war. He's the one that purged the Matrix
If Neo and Trinity are free, the Analyst can't run the Matrix like it has been for the last 60 years, because anything that actually tries to control the people inside, Neo and Trinity will just patch/change.
While everyone in the Matrix was imprisoned by the machines once more, humans outside imprisoned themselves inside Zion and IO. They didn't do anything about the purge or question why people stopped leaving the Matrix. Morpheus and Zion were blinded and controled by the prophecy(hope), believing the peace would last no matter who won the machine civil war. IO was blinded and controled by their own fear, fear of restarting the war and losing the prosperity they gained.
Hope and fear play a big part in this movie.

But today, we perceive the matrix, the artificial world, as smth softer, more friendly & everyday like. The nuances are enough, but it makes that world more scarier. I want to say, it's not technical that much, the power of manipulation, strong characters, mind control - that's what makes that world future variant of our world. Probably. I think it might be due to how the people subverted the message of the original Matrix over the years, and went to a complete opposite with it, especially for specific agendas. I mean, things like "red-pilled", "black pilled", etc. People also far and wide are disillusioned similarly but think it's due to totally illegitimate causes. People who play with them, and especially those who force upon a certain system, like the programs, are actively making sure it stays that way, and that their bots crush everyone else.

So it really wasn't as popular as people think it was... It only became more mainstream and popular as the academics and writers start to dissect and explain the commentary. I think Lana has a lot to say in this. The Bot attack at the end the claustrophobic feeling, the smother feeling is her commentary on cancel culture. When you just say one unpopular thing online it's like a switch goes off and everyone just jumps on you and come at you non stop when they themselves don't even know what they are attacking you about. Video idea: responding to critiques of the film by using quotes from the film itself! So much dialogue is so well written and calls people out on what they think the film should be

Morpheus, initially thought that everyone of his crew, that he freed, was the ONE.
Trinity, Mouse, Neo and even Cypher.

I saw the film today and I liked it. Most importantly I thought it was a perfect coda to the trilogy. Neo and Trinity dying in #3 I think was a good ending but it's not a happy ending. In this case, they had a better outcome. I also said before I liked #2 and #3 and the Animatrix more than the first one. I thought this was a lot of fan service and I do think they touched on some interesting ideas. I would argue that if you're not a Matrix fan and if you particularly didn't like the sequels as much, this will be harder for you. So I think it was clever, had its moments, and a few novel ideas including how programs can now exist in our world (why not just give them a machine body?). I do think it would've been better with Weaving and possibly Fishburne, with the same story (i.e., Morpheus would still be the program).

"Deja Vu" was not a program in the first matrix. deja vu was a symptom of the code being corrected...

Great explanations, you definitely know your lore. Could you please do a video on how & why Smith came back? He seemed to have a moment of recollection before picking up the gun in the offices. Is his source code interlinked with Neo's? Thank you and wishing you happy holidays!

"And that is the most important thing about The Matrix franchise; our interpretation of certain events can change over time" - this is what I love about this channel, you are not tied to whatever you thought The Matrix meant yesterday, no matter how much surety you may have presented it with, you are always open up a new understanding. In that light, I disagree with your interpretation of the end credits scene. I enjoy end-credits and mid-credits scenes, as a nice way to append additional context, and see this particular end-credits-scene as a great use of the form, appending a kind of meta-context, that mocks attempts to capitalize on The Matrix, including a subtle wink at The Animatrix. I love how Lana has left nothing sacred, nothing restricted from questioning.

I thought Neo and Trinity were the best part (only good part?) of Resurrections so I'm totally behind her getting powers. Carrie-Anne Moss is back and she still kicks ass.

It's refreshing to see I'm not the only one who actually liked the movie for what it was.. Even with though todays' need to completely deconstruct female characters into something stupid that they are not even supposed to be.
But with Trinity? I always took Neo and Trinity as a SINGLE UNIT, working together in complete harmony and where one cannot work without the other. Glad I got that confirmed at least.

Maybe they should have just change the name from Matrix: Resurrection to "Neo goes to depressing therapy sessions" It might be more honest.. I loved the first 3 but this one sucks greatly Unfortunately Hard to believe it is part of the same series. Very Very weak. I wanted my money back after seeing it.

      Agree with you!
It is true that there are interesting ideas, but we are talking about Matrix!!!! The first 3 movies were epic, if we compare this to the 1st trilogy, then it's a big crap

I liked it. It had a lot of subtlety and an interesting Terminator reference I wonder if anyone else noticed. Morpheus asset in code was model 101, cyberdyne systems 101 was Arnolds terminator. Morpheus walked the hallway and crossed arms with the guns just like arnolds terminator

Part of the original Matrix has similarities with terminator that were removed by the producer or the studio, like many other wacky stuff. The 101 was already in the trilogy though.
