    Probably one of the most underrated metal guitar players of all time. But I think he never wanted that kind of attention because he wanted to put the Judas Priest concept as a whole and as a band first. By the same token I gotta say.. That solo he plays on Painkiller the song.... Makes the top ten of the greatest guitar solos of all time on my list.

      You should read what KK says in his book about Glenn. He claims that Glenn most definetely did want to be seen as the main guitarist in JP, and specifically tailored the songs to showcase his (obvious) talents.

In fact, that coment maybe the real cause of judas priest, so, HAIL GLENN TIPTON. As a musician KK is less than a half of glenn, like it or not, as simple as that.

    He and Adrian Smith from Maiden had a rhythmically syncopated approach to soloing that I just loved. I also took great influence from Tipton's use of dissonance within perfectly syncopated rhythms inside of his solos. The Turbo Lover solo is a favourite of mine for that reason.

      Mike Price I saw the Defenders tour too. I saw them in San Francisco with a band called Kick Axe. Priest was phenomenal. Rob Halford was hitting ear splitting notes unlike anything I have heard before or since then, except for other Priest concerts. My ears rang for three days after that show. I will never forget it.🤘🏻

    • @afterburner2869
      @afterburner2869 Před 6 lety +1

      Mike Price You and I are cut from the same cloth. Screaming for Vengeance was the first thing I had ever heard from Priest. From that day forward, Priest was in my blood. Did not see the Screaming tour, but that album made me metal.
      Fast forward about ten years later, around the time Painkiller came out. I was living in Phoenix at the time. I heard rumor that Halford was going to be appearing at a small rock bar called the Mason Jar. I got my ass down there , got right next to the stage and sure enough, there he was. Mere feet away was the metal god himself. He and his backing band played about a dozen Priest songs, opening with Solar Angel. Once in a life time experience. Those were the days . I may be getting older but metal is in my blood as much as it ever was. I went and saw The Last in Line a few days ago. Dio’s old band with Vivian Cambell and Vinny Appice. Fucking rock legends in a small rock bar playing classic Dio songs. It was loud as hell and kicked ass. I felt like a kid again!! I even got a fist bump from Vinny!

    Glenn was diagnosed with Parkinson's a long time ago, it just that now he feels it is affecting him so much he can't continue in Priest. Honestly, I'm sad. Kk and Glenn is what made Priest for me. Sure rob is a cool guy, the metal god, and Ian is the guy who started the band, but kk and Glenn's twin guitar attack is what made the band for me. Kk with his bluesy style, Glenn with his more classical style. For me, Judas Priest won't be the same anymore. I'll always listen to their old records but the new stuff, meh. Nothing against the band, just that my 2 favorite members personally, I'd rather have the old band with ripper Owens singing than the new band with rob singing but no kk or glenn

      @afterburner2869 Před 6 lety

      Barry McNicholl Agree 100%. It was a swift kick in the nuts when KK left, but now that Glen is gone, it’s absolutely not Priest any longer. When you loose two iconic guys like Downing and Tipton, the essence of the band is gone. Too bad as I am a huge Priest guy. Like you said, their new stuff is meh. The songs have no personality or character. It’s just not there anymore.
