EAM S Jaishankar leads India at SCO Summit in Kazakhstan; holds bilateral talks, meets world leaders

The 24th edition of the SCO Summit is being held in Kazakhstan’s capital Astana from July 03-04. The meeting of SCO Council of Heads of State (SCO Summit) held under the presidency of Kazakhstan. EAM Jaishankar led the Indian delegation for the SCO Summit, met the SCO heads, and posed for a family photo. As per a statement from MEA, India's priorities in this year's summit are shaped by PM Modi's vision of a “secure” SCO. 'SECURE' stands for Security, Economic cooperation, Connectivity, Unity, Respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, and Environmental protection. Earlier on the sidelines of the SCO Summit, EAM Jaishankar also held several bilateral meetings with his counterparts. SCO is seen as an influential economic & security bloc which is one of the largest trans-regional international organisations. The SCO was founded at a summit in Shanghai in 2001 by the presidents of Russia, China, the Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Under its first-ever presidency of SCO, India hosted the 23rd Meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State in 2023. Meanwhile, at the Summit, the leaders are expected to review the organization's activities over the past two decades.
