  • Destiny 2 Hype, Beta, and Launch. All very interesting times in Destiny history. From being one of the most hyped up sequels in gaming, to being a major letdown. Destiny 2 had a rough launch. More rough than even Destiny 1 as far as the state of the game goes. Destiny 2 vanilla, Red War era, was a bad time for Destiny fans in 2017.

      @@NovemberHotel yeah but the same could be said about D1. Yeah we all stuck with it, but D1 launch was one of the most disappointing launches in gaming. From story, to content, etc. The launch of VoG single-handedly saved vanilla D1. The Dark Below, while nostalgic, was one of the worst DLCs to launch in its history. House of Wolves was also lackluster, where Bungie was constantly patronized for not including a raid. Don’t even get me started on all of our gear being sunset in preparation for taken king, when they blatantly said that’d never happen.
      I loved D1 despite ALL of the valid criticisms, and I love D2 all the same. I just love this franchise. But to say D2 was more disappointing than D1 is a stretch. Both games were a train wreck throughout the beginning of their life cycles, until they got their super big expansion. Taken King/Forsaken

      Like many I preordered D2 based on how epic RoI was, and how much I loved D1. Before D2 release I was chatting to clan mates, saying I hoped we wouldn’t just buying back what we had already purchased. Talk about prophetic thinking. Following RoI, D2 had no excuse to be as bad as it was on release. IMO the only fun part in D2Y1 was 9 man EP, but getting that coordinated was random as well. D2Y1 AoT and pre-Y2 announcements and Bungie’s “whoops we didn’t intend that, but let’s see how it goes” patch updates killed the franchise for me. I can hop into D1, but I find no fun in playing D2, so I don’t. So for me D2 killed itself.

    It really felt like Destiny had lost its identity and what made it so appealing to so many people during most of Year 1, especially Curse of Osiris. Most people would say Forsaken was what saved D2 but I think it really was The Whisper mission that got many people coming back because of how much everyone was talking about it. A secret powerful exotic sniper that was discovered purely through word of mouth. That was the first time in a long time the community went absolutely crazy over an exotic weapon. It really reminded us why we love Destiny in the first place.

    Something from the beta that I could never quite tell was a bug or not, was Voidwalker could have blink and glide active at the same time. Basically, if you selected blink as your jump, using your class ability in the air activated a nerfed glide that had no jump ability applied to it, (no burst, balanced or strafe properties).
    It was extremely nice because it meant you didn't have to go into the menu to switch to glide just to be able to make a jump that blink couldn't make, and you could activate it after your first blink to better influence the direction of your second blink in midair.

    till this day I feel like destiny 2 failed to impress me or make me stay to grind. Something just feels different when it comes to destiny 1. A lot of things are now better in destiny 2 such as cross play, you don't have to go to orbit to go to other destinations, etc. I feel like destiny 1 was balanced when it comes to hard and easy, easy to obtain fairly good legendary weapons, easy to balance your gear (intellect, discipline, strength) , but hard to get exotics in general and harder to get exotics that would make you stand out. Raids .. raids were hard in destiny 1 and most of them needed a whole fireteam to finish and the rewards were "rewarding". Now in destiny 2, weapons/exotics are easily obtainable, hard to balance your gear if your luck was shit, and raids are fairly easy since we have mods and a lot of things that bungie isn't able to balance out (aka titan's hammer + the solar something that heals you). I don't know how much of what I said is true since I don't play the game a lot due to exams, I could easily be very wrong, but that is how I feel the difference between the 2 games.

    To be fair, as someone who lived through it, a veteran D1 player who watched all these streams etc live and bought D2 on launch day (and took time off work to play it), and is still an active player today, I think the Red War campaign itself is actually pretty strong in terms of Destiny campaigns. Is it perfect? No.. some plot points were a bit rushed (like Zavala and Ikora deciding to come back with hardly any effort), and the 'jokey' tone which permeated vanilla D2 was a bit much (which they've since dialed back on, thankfully), but the missions themselves, the setpieces and destinations etc, were all pretty darn good. I rememeber enjoying the hell out of the game for the first week or two.
    It was really /after/ that that the cracks began to show. The lack of any meaningful endgame or chase loot being the biggest problem, along with a lot of gameplay decisions that just weren't good (double primary guns, 4v4 crucible, no random rolls, etc).
    I think if you put the Red War campaign back in the game today, unchanged, but with today's subclasses and weapon systems, it'd still be plenty fun and actually more fun than some more recent story campaigns (Shadowkeep or Beyond Light, for example).

They have the ability to give us what we want but choose to not do that. Imagine if destiny had everything that we wanted still in the game and not taken away or sunsetted. They should just make a new destiny game and include everything from 1 and 2 as vanilla so they can make a new engine to be able to handle all of it.

    Guided Games isn’t something I’d describe as “somewhat failed.” That abortion of a system was a failure from the get-go. Literally all it is… is matchmaking for raids. What raids (and other harder content like GMs and the like) have always needed was an in-game LFG tool: something that allows for more selection and curation of your experience. Guided Games just… threw people in there and said “figure it out.” I am honestly surprised they haven’t outright removed it.

    I liked destiny 2 vanilla. I think multiplayer was better when it was 4v4. You could actually tell what the hell was going on and people played the objective a lot more (we also had more objective based game modes). It was also balanced and fair 90% of the time, now there’s no such thing as balance in Destiny PvP.

    • @boom-jr8vi
      @boom-jr8vi Před rokem

    Forsaken "saved" destiny 2 because it was the closest we got to destiny 1. Last wish felt like a return to old school raiding and the weapon system finally allowed for special weapons. Things were good, and then seasons started.

    The game still has not fully recovered from this horrible, horrible start. IB is at its worst at the moment. Not even close to D1 last IB. Strikes are hellishly boring. Give me dark blade or bond brothers. It's good, but due to the mess it was in, it lost its mysterious spark. I play it and hope that the next expansion is going to elevate it to the level of D1 at its best. Witch did not do it for me. Still looking for that spark. Excellent analysis of what was wrong with D2 at the start.

    I remember getting flak from the clan for immediately criticising the story and campaign. I knew the reveals were smoke and mirrors after the first 2 missions. Then the lack of content really struck me as a "we will make the product we sold you better later." After I quit weeks in soon they came to the same conclusion. Came back for forsaken, left again then recently joined back. Still kinda rough but its in a better spot, for a price tage of hundreds of dollars..... GF wanted to play it tho, so G2A savings really helped.

    The thing I didn't like about the planet vendors is that they're planet vendors. Their entire, in game, identity was about the planet.
    Also i had really hoped for a campaign where till the very end we didn't have light and the whole campaign being a darkness zone where you're struggling.
    I had hoped for a division esk darkness zone, even if there was no pvp, within the remnants of the tower where you fight cabal and later fallen that moves into the city.
    I also hate the token system. I miss the end loot page where you see IB or trials gear get awarded and what not. A currency is fine, but I don't like it being front and center.
    For anyone who got this far, how much better do you think d2 y1 would be received if weapon crafting was unlocked and to progress the level you had to get another one?

    Destiny 2 start was interesting. I loved D1 and hoped for an awsome game. The story was shallow because we got the light so early back, but everything else was decent. My biggest mistake was, that i thought i could go and play D2 for hours. I later realised it doesn't have the same length because its a new game and not an expansion. After i turned down and played it less often i realised i didn't get burned out so fast.

    I ended up liking vanilla D2. The largest problem I saw at the time was everyone over-hyping the game. It led to everyone having really high expectations, and Bungie simply couldn't deliver. It only got worse with the fact some people genuinely thought a brand new game could be better than a game that's been out for 3 years with 4 DLC's that tons of people loved.

  • @bigmoney6939
    @bigmoney6939 Před rokem +1

    I would have liked the story a lot more if we didn't immediately get our powers back. I also feel like bungie has swung to far in the opposite direction in regards to the weapon grind. There should be a happy medium between every weapon being the same and having to geind out like 5 red border guns and then level up the dang gun.

  • @corym.m.3084

    Sadly it’s gone into this cycle. Release short dlc, along with a seasonal activity that gets a new part of the quest once a week and your left with nothing else to do, except for all the weekly pinnacles. Which becomes pointless by the next dlc where the light level is capped and you have to start all over. They even ruined the planets and their destinations, there’s nothing to do except for patrolling and public events. Oh and the few higher difficulty lost sectors. The least Bungie can do is add all the crucible maps back and all the strikes/ nightfalls. There’s so much empty space in the planet destinations that they could use and they don’t. It’s rather pointless making them huge
