- I'm Donnalouise - a puzzled puzzler puzzling puzzles who's practicing for the World Jigsaw Puzzle Championships in Spain this September - as well as for the National Australian competition in November! I did three speed runs by myself - two having only 15 seconds difference in time. Which do you think they were??? I also did two 1000 piece speed runs with Alison and for a third one, Wendy joined us. We had so much fun! Enjoy!!

I wonder if you record a "coaching" loop - "go faster," "use your left hand," "you got this," etc would it help? An affirmation to play while building 🌻🍄
HAHAHA That would be awesome! I could get Wendy to record in her voice - she would keep me moving and on my toes for sure! 💜
Thanks for taking my suggestion on board. Alejandro used that technique in last years competition. It is a great technique. It provided him time to make mistakes and his mistake corrections were fast. Not that piece put it back get the next but his other hand is already there for the next piece.
My next suggestion to you would be expanding peripheral vision but thats not easy. It reduces the amount of eye movement required because you would have developed a wider field of vision.
I wish you well Donna Lousie, cant wait to hear how you did because its August already.
I’m getting so excited and nervous! I need to get more practicing in as well. I’ll be leaving for the competition in like 1.5 months!!
Which two 500 piece puzzles do you think were only 15 seconds apart in time??
Thanks so much for watching! Please consider subscribing 💜
Association n sweets one. Lol
I guessed the right puzzles !! I love the sheep puzzle I think it is beautiful. Glad you are having fun.🥰
That's great because I would have never have thought it would have been those two puzzles before doing them all. 💜
Great breakdown. The 500-piece ones do not look easy!
I have so many Ravensburger 500 pieces now to practice on. Need to start doing so for Oz! 💜🧩
I love your training videos!! And I was sorry to miss BOTYTP, I bought the puzzle and started it, but then got Covid for the first time ☹️ ... high hopes to participate in round 3!
OH NO!!! I do hope you feel better and recovered quickly. I still have yet to get it and I really don'd want to. We are already planning for #BOTUP III and I sure hope you'll be able to join in for that one. 💜
The sweet shop you did the quickest - very busy. You may not be the world's fastest but you have the biggest coeur.
Ah merci!!! 💜
Some nice puzzles there, and you all did so well with those times! It would be interesting to know, with the top speed puzzle winners like Yvonne how much faster they are since they started - how much practice etc improved their times. September isn't far away now!!
Oh I forgot to mention that you leant me The Beach Hut puzzle - thanks again! Alison and I will be tackling all the others you leant me as well soon. Very good question - I do wonder how much faster she's gotten over time and with practice. I do plan on redoing my first speed puzzle - which was in Oct 2022. I did it in 1:50 and hope that I could greatly improve on that time. 💜🧩
Haha. Over rotation is a killer.
🤣🤣🤣
My guess before I watch the video: The San Diego and the Kitchen Shelf (?) will take you approx 1:10-1:15. The Beach puzzle will take you 1:20-1:30, i.e. longer than the other two.
1st comment while watching the video: I almost exclusively use my left hand for puzzling (although I am right-handed :-). Must try a one-hand only (right hand) solve in the future. Good advice!
2nd comment while watching the video: With the pairs Beach puzzle I initially assumed that one of you were doing the sky only, while the other would do the rest - in order to avoid working on the same region. But whoever did the sky only might indeed get mightily frustrated. 🙂
Finally: Thanks again for BOTYP I, II, III,... 🙂
I can't believe you are right-handed but use just your left hand to puzzle - that's crazy! I can't even imagine. In competition, if you don't finish in time, they count the number of total assembled pieces. So we feel it's best to do all the easy parts first to get as many pieces in place as possible. I'm really getting excited for #BOTYP III !!! 💜
I play all board games with my left hand (chess, go, backgammon,...) and want the chess clock on my left side. I lock/unlock doors and use a calculator preferrably with my left hand. But I cannot write/paint or throw balls/frisbees or play racket games (tennis, table tennis, badminton,...) with my left hand. My right hand/arm is stronger than my left - but I seem to use the left hand for some of the more intricate tasks. I know, it's weird...
Association and Sweets one is my guess.
The two illustrations - good guess 💜🧩
I’m going San Diego and Sweet shop. Paradise beach has too much sea and sky.
I think many will guess the same as you. 💜
Interesting suggestion about using both hands. 🤚✋ It does make sense to try and use both hands, it's learning to do puzzles that way. If I recall correctly Alejandro was using both hands when doing his puzzles at last year's worlds. Areas of solid colour 💙 are always tricky and sorting by shape definitely helps. This is why I don't do puzzles with vast areas of sky, sea or greenery! 🌳🌳 I'm just about to make a start on a 1000 piece puzzle called Gratitude. Lots of words in different fonts. If you wish to see an image I suggest that you google The Artist's Canvas Gratitude puzzle. It has a pink background. Look forward to your next video. 😀
The Artist's Canvas Gratitude puzzle looks like such a cool puzzle to do - could be challenging as well. Let me know how you get on with it and if you enjoyed it. I understand the need to have sky/water/greenery in some images but I just wish it wasn't so much - like they could add textures and gradients to make it more enjoyable. 💜
@@fortheloveofpuzzles I have now done the Gratitude puzzle and thoroughly enjoyed it. I didn't rush and it took me two days in between doing other things. I started with the middle and did the outside last. It is a random cut so was challenging to some degree but not to the degree that I wanted to give up. If you can get hold of it I'm sure you will enjoy doing it yourself. 🙂
@@aytcs It was quite impressive watching them both puzzle so differently.
I watched the techniques from last years competition and you are correct Alejandro used both hands. I also saw moments where he had a piece in one hand and it was not the one he needed it didn't fit so he put it back so he could move on to the next piece in the other hand, using both hands provides the opportunity for that little mistake. It is how I used to do jigsaw puzzles if I wanted to speed and it does work. It doesn't work for me now because I wear glasses which limits my peripheral vision.
I can't find a way to contact the USA Puzzle Assoc. I am a member. There's just no contact link.
I have an email address for them that you could try - contact@usajigsaw.org - hopefully that works. 💜🧩
The change of hand even if it doesn't shaves of any seconds will be good for the head challenge :D
It's worth a try and like you wrote, I'm sure it'll be a fun challenge. 💜
I've heard advice for pairs and groups, that you might want to actually witch places at some point. It may be disorienting first, but fresh eyes apparently help :)
Yes, I've heard that also. Alison and I chatted about that in case we wanted to change places. It worked well puzzling side by side but definitely for a team, switching places and getting new eyes on a section would be a thing to do. 💜
Hmm, I think I would guess Sweet Shop and San Diego... 🤔
That's the most popular vote so far... 💜
