    That opening solo was amazing, I don’t care what anyone says. That kid had a vision and he executed it.

      def not amazing, its quite literally a classical solo in a jazz setting. He def could've done better with a bari sax instead of bass clarinet

    The solo felt more like a concert band solo, it didn't feel like jazz at all, and it sounded to sweet to be "Moanin'"

    Interesting choice the bass clarinet. The vibe was a lot different then the original song. But it’s still great.

    I think it should be on bari... bass clairs are great instruments but a bari can be jazzier, bigger, and closer to its original recording lol
    the bass still sounded nice thoe..

    Moanin without a piano solo is just not moanin to me. Maybe I'm the ignorant one here, but big band jazz solos, while technically insanely difficult (and way out of my league), just aren't enjoyable to listen to for me. Amazing job though!

      I think you might be thinking of art blakey's composition of the same name. this tune, while not originally written for big band, is probably best known as a big band chart and is all about collective improvisation between the horns.

  • @hunter2532
    @hunter2532 Před 11 lety +4

    What the hell is this?!?! Since when bass clarinets even in jazz bands. Moanin shouldn't be played without a bari in addition to this is to easy to play. You need the cooler version that's only bari instead of all the saxes

    • @joshuahuff607
      @joshuahuff607 Před 7 lety +4

      Hunter Dean Clarinets are pretty common for jazz really. You don't see them much in jazz bands because they don't cut through as much as saxophones, but you can still use them for soloist purposes. Bennie Goodman us an example of a big band that uses clarinet. Also, Eric Dolphy played bass clarinet
