DC MOTORS AND GENERATORS - Department of Defense 1961 - PIN 29942 - DESIGN, APPLICATION, AND OPERATION OF BASIC, SERIES, SHUNT, AND COMPOUND WOUND TYPE DC GENERATORS AND MOTORS.
i think its because its hard to make a video back then, so they have to think it through and revise every detail before screening? whilst now i can just pick up my webcam and explain.
+cok Bagus That is true, but some of the newer videos involve the creation of detailed 3D models and animations that also take a long time to produce, and they still can't hold a candle to these classics.
the dumber the population, the more it is dependent on the state. Therefore, it is in the interests of those employed by the government to make education as shitty as possible. Government must be removed from education entirely.
The reason these old vids are so good, is that they were training films for young men enlisting or being drafted into the military. We rely on these young people to maintain our submarines, tanks, etc. They kept it practical and basic to get you into the field quickly.
@Tbone productions It's very good through about 13:30, then crashes and burns. The leap in background required to follow along jumps enormously, so that you have a very basic, sound video for the first 2/5ths, then a preposterous digression into shunt wound generators, then we go back to simple battery and magnet demonstrations around 17:40. Strange video indeed, but worthwhile in many respects.
the dumber the population, the more it is dependent on the state. Therefore, it is in the interests of those employed by the government to make education as shitty as possible. Government must be removed from education entirely.
I was in the military and all their training videos are still like this. Very intuitive and direct, they set training on a step level and repeat information to drive it home and make it easy. I was in the Marines. It is good ya know.
I owe a debt of gratitude to the older generation for this......none of today's computer generated videos can match the quality of this instructional film....it's just so well presented and clearly explained. .., this old film taught me more about motors than any other crap videos put out on CZcams.
I often seek older information sources regarding basic principles for their explanatory simplicity and their lack of reliance on unnecessary gimmicks such as cumbersome and overwrought animations. When I was teaching electronics years ago, my go-to video series was The Mechanical Universe and Beyond. The math might be a little thick for those uninitiated to calculus--especially in the episode on Maxwell's equations, but the animations are clean and perfectly complement the narrative.
guys, can we just take a minute to appreciate how well the animation was produced, i mean look at the rotors, mags, commus and current flows, it has everything and looks so familiar. can you believe they made this in the early 60s? just wow! and conceptually it did a good job as well, it conveyed every bit of info modern graphics can deliver, and i'd say it did even better than a lot modern ones. but, on another note, this probably cost a lot of tax money, and i say it's well spent... :b
This video is pretty amazing in that I am currently taking Electronics and Physics classes at night and the content in class is so convoluted that it is difficult to pull the simplicity of the presented material for comprehension. example: "The postman is walking, he is stepping at 75 steps per minute and each step is 150 cm high. If he had magnets on his toes and the ground was made of copper. he would create voltage. That is how generators work" That, of course, was an exaggerated example but yet not too off par.
This way of showing the schematics of a DC motor/generator is way better than the way my book try to explain, which is kind of more complex. This is exactly what I wanted as I wished to know the functioning before going ahead to the equations. Thanks!
This is one of the most concise explanations of this I have ever encountered. The military didn't mince words, these videos had to be on point and clear. Just as relevant some 60 years later.
Love these types of videos. You just dont find it anywhere in today's teaching where they would explain in simple terms and actually takes the effort to let us understand. Inspite of the usual boring stuffs to just explaining it and leave it for the "bright minds" to understand they do think about "us".
this is the best video I have ever seen I have a class on DC machines and DC Motors and with this 30 min video I learned more and more than 3 months we spent in the class
When education that dates back 50 years ago is better than current education today. You know that our coming generations are fucked. Seems like every teacher I come across always has contradictory, or missing details. These videos clear every question that I have. It's quite amazing.
Why are old books and videos so much better than the new stuff? I just gained more understanding in 35 minutes than I did in a whole semester of circuits. Thank you for sharing.
High school student here. Found this light-years more helpful than my physics teachers and worksheets. I doubt they even know what they are talking about half the time.
Absolutely wonderful videos. They're more fun and educational than most other videos I have seen so far. I am currently learning how motors, generators and electricity work as a whole and your videos are exactly what I needed. Keep them coming.
This video is better than any other new video published on this topic and that's why all of us watched till the end.I hope to watch many interesting videos on this channel..mm yah. 😊 hope you guys continuing. Thanks for this video! wish you all a happy new year with glee.🎡
this is insane. Will be using this to learn some of the basics that have eluded me. But it's shockingly instructional. And the best part is I can always rewind and watch something I didn't quite get
This sort of video we did actually have in school in a few classes...good teachers realized it was a good way to learn. I'm always thankful of my shop class teachers for that.
because was made for military people, that have to be faithful to the flag, but not required to be scientist or graduate; they have to learn the essential in very few time. these video should be used in every college, the quality is very high, because was made by the State for his personnel. The market is another thing...
@ 8:45: now you know why we studied trigonometry! This is the clearest explanation of sinusoidal electrical waveforms I've seen on YT, and it's been around 50+ years! Were have I been??
I have worked with direct current motors for years and never could have understood the relationships of the parts. I change brushes because of sparking- never knew what I was doing or why. Now I am getting a better idea. Finally, I'm getting electric motor education. This is so cool to me.
Even though this video is old , but it's like years a head of it time ... it was very clear and simple , my 6 years old brother could understand it easily . PLS more documentaries like this and thank you so much for taking the effort ..
I aggree with all other comments. Really fantastic how a so old video coudl be lots better than any actual university course! How many years back is the education today! Videos like this are lacking today for the understanding of science and technology!
Starting at 25:00 this video explains very clearly how a train, subway or streetcar starts. For stop and go transportation DC is the most efficient. For long run, high speed transportation, AC is the best, higher voltage through thinner powerlines. Both AC and DC have their (dis)advantages for public transportation.
THIS VIDEO IS AWESOME I've known how Ac and Dc motors work but didn't really have a clear understanding of them.OUT OF ALL THE VIDEOS AND BOOKS I'VE READ THIS IS THE BEST THE keeps you from being confused all the time :D
I was just about to post exactly the same thing unsure if I was missing something, then looked down and saw your comment and realised you'd beat me to it. Good spot!
Work in a mill that still uses MG sets for all of our DC motors and speed control. Such old technology but still reliable to this day when properly maintained
I feel like learning stuff today is so much harder compared to back then. Today we have to absorb so much information that when we get to classes like this, they just kinda expect you to know it already. But back then, they needed people so they just gave the information out in a way that anybody could understand it. Now, it's just how much money you can spend in order to learn what you need and we have to catch up with almost 50 years of new information making it complicated for people to be able to teach us properly.
why do these old movies do such a great job at explaining vs new videos???
i think its because its hard to make a video back then, so they have to think it through and revise every detail before screening?
whilst now i can just pick up my webcam and explain.
I think you are correct. I would love to see modern day remakes. Same script new graphics.
+cok Bagus That is true, but some of the newer videos involve the creation of detailed 3D models and animations that also take a long time to produce, and they still can't hold a candle to these classics.
these classic versions are presented as practical knowledge where new versions are often presented a theory.
because making a video back then was a big deal only people who really knew what they were talking about had a chance to do it
Holy Crap, This is exactly the knowledge that I have been searching for. Why isn't all education this straight-forward and simple?
Right on :-d
the dumber the population, the more it is dependent on the state. Therefore, it is in the interests of those employed by the government to make education as shitty as possible. Government must be removed from education entirely.
These days, they dont want educated inventors. They want skilled workers.
Sam they sure did a crap job at teaching you spelling
The reason these old vids are so good, is that they were training films for young men enlisting or being drafted into the military. We rely on these young people to maintain our submarines, tanks, etc. They kept it practical and basic to get you into the field quickly.
100% truth, comment liked.

I have a class on this. learned more in this video than in class for 2 weeks and reading the book. The layout is more logical. Quality.
That's pretty cynical. I like it!
the dumber the population, the more it is dependent on the state. Therefore, it is in the interests of those employed by the government to make education as shitty as possible. Government must be removed from education entirely.
Welcome home, oh based one. You have much to learn.
It blows my mind the dumbing down of the world. We have modern CGI, yet these old videos from the past explain everything so much better.
I was in the military and all their training videos are still like this. Very intuitive and direct, they set training on a step level and repeat information to drive it home and make it easy. I was in the Marines. It is good ya know.
I hope they try to keep the old school style and big band intros and outtros.
The best thing I've seen..This summarized my four year of engineering school.....
really? did you get your degree at motor state university?
If you visited school once in 4 years that might be true
I owe a debt of gratitude to the older generation for this......none of today's computer generated videos can match the quality of this instructional film....it's just so well presented and clearly explained.
.., this old film taught me more about motors than any other crap videos put out on CZcams.

The Mechanical Universe and Beyond I must now check out. Simple & Oldschool FTW

I second that my textbook is complicated too had to memorize the equation without fully understanding whats going on.
These old videos are extremely informative.
This is one of the most concise explanations of this I have ever encountered. The military didn't mince words, these videos had to be on point and clear. Just as relevant some 60 years later.
I love the style of these old videos!
look along the right edge of the film, looks like the projector is full of lint and hair, gross lmao...
This is the BEST explanation video i had found so far!!! thumbs up!! covers everything i want to know!
This was very helpful. I love the style of explanation in these older docs.
I never appreciated how complex DC motors are before this video.
I love these old training videos. Thanks!

this is the best video I have ever seen I have a class on DC machines and DC Motors and with this 30 min video I learned more and more than 3 months we spent in the class
This just proves that knowledge never gets too old.
This is probably the best video for understanding these complex topics in no time
Wow, these old videos are a throwback!
best best best video i ever saw on you tube
Les anciens sont plus savant que ceux d'aujourd'hui ......... 👍💌
When education that dates back 50 years ago is better than current education today. You know that our coming generations are fucked. Seems like every teacher I come across always has contradictory, or missing details. These videos clear every question that I have. It's quite amazing.
Great stuff ... from a time when value was put on accuracy and clarity of understanding ...
Why are old books and videos so much better than the new stuff? I just gained more understanding in 35 minutes than I did in a whole semester of circuits. Thank you for sharing.
Wow, Yep, totally the best instructional video I've had on generators, and I'm an EE major!
Love it!
High school student here. Found this light-years more helpful than my physics teachers and worksheets. I doubt they even know what they are talking about half the time.

couldn't agree more!
these old videos explain things brilliantly! its a shame the talent of making them has been lost :'(
Clearly explained without hiding facts. Thank you sir.. One more.. Continue this channel same manner.
It summarize my whole semester for DC machines . Great vid. Well explained topics . Thankyou somuchh
As soon as i saw this was a black & white video, i immediately saved it.
This video is better than any other new video published on this topic and that's why all of us watched till the end.I hope to watch many interesting videos on this channel..mm yah. 😊 hope you guys continuing. Thanks for this video! wish you all a happy new year with glee.🎡
this is insane.

But it's shockingly instructional. And the best part is I can always rewind and watch something I didn't quite get
Superb! Well explained and extremely valuable regarding the informative level! We need more of this!
Best of all videos available on this topic, very well illustrated. Thanks for such a nice thing, very helpful
how simply they explained A to Z about DC motors and generators !!👍👏🇮🇳🌠😁👌💎
This sort of video we did actually have in school in a few classes...good teachers realized it was a good way to learn. I'm always thankful of my shop class teachers for that.
old is gold.......hence proved....
Now I understand it clearly. thanks! you are a very effective teacher.
Old school cool and very comprehensive...I will seek this video again.
I was trained in electronics in the US Air Force. I saw videos like these - many produced by the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy.
Old school is the best school i have worked with some old timer and i learn so much with them
Thats the best explanation i have ever heard! Great presentation!
finally this black n white video has added the true colors to my knowledge... thanx
These videos are gold!
Old is gold these types of videos needs to be made a thing again
this information is golden......succinct and straight to the point via the facts...... perfect for any student
i dont know if this narration is so good because it was the millitary or because it was 1960. either way i like it
because was made for military people, that have to be faithful to the flag, but not required to be scientist or graduate; they have to learn the essential in very few time. these video should be used in every college, the quality is very high, because was made by the State for his personnel. The market is another thing...
Simply the best now I can get to business and try to make my own!!!
Esses vídeos são muito bons em ensinar conteúdo rapidamente e de forma intuitiva, da forma que eu gosto.
Excellent information, this is REAL education old school style.
Who is this Ryan
Truth please
@ 8:45: now you know why we studied trigonometry! This is the clearest explanation of sinusoidal electrical waveforms I've seen on YT, and it's been around 50+ years! Were have I been??
I just love those old videos !

Brilliant video this...REALLY helpful!
this video literally just covered the unit I was reading for elevator school. good timing and good video.
The best of the best. 1960's documentaries rules!!
maaaaaan I love these old videos!
I am impress by watching your videos." Really compatible"
Best video explanation I've seen so far, thanks for the upload
excelente vídeo! Obrigado por compartilhar.
hey i got this video in my engineering course last year. best video out for gen and motor!
The best thing about this old documentaries is the voice, it's just epic
Eh, the voice isn't twinge inducing like Seeker, but the content and organization is where its at.
Even though this video is old , but it's like years a head of it time ... it was very clear and simple , my 6 years old brother could understand it easily . PLS more documentaries like this and thank you so much for taking the effort ..
Desrves to be watched more than one time ! Thank u
w Allah yehdina
it is the principle of electricity generation in clearly.really thank very much and we wish more like this video
wow i am in love with this explanation Thanks
Good stuff real simple to understand and straight to the point 👍
best tutorial of dc motors and generators in my life
A finest study material I got after searching through many Videos. A great video which explains the theory precise.
I aggree with all other comments. Really fantastic how a so old video coudl be lots better than any actual university course! How many years back is the education today! Videos like this are lacking today for the understanding of science and technology!

Old School Rocks! the best.thanks grandfather!
Simply superb .This video is made nicely such that it is not necessary to listen to class room lecture or refer to any book on dc machines
wow this video is excellent. The animations are great. Very well explained.
thank you for this video . ..God bless. . .
Old but Gold still the best explanation about Generator I really love it
OMG we use this and I never thought this would be online!
you kind sir, made me like and understand this "stupid" (as i thought it be) lesson.thank you wholeheartedly!
THIS VIDEO IS AWESOME I've known how Ac and Dc motors work but didn't really have a clear understanding of them.OUT OF ALL THE VIDEOS AND BOOKS I'VE READ THIS IS THE BEST THE keeps you from being confused all the time :D
GREAT food for thought. This stimulated some new ideas. Thanks
Who is this Al?
I was just about to post exactly the same thing unsure if I was missing something, then looked down and saw your comment and realised you'd beat me to it. Good spot!
Excelente aporte. grandioso.
Perfect video, This is good learning.
really felt very good better than most of present lectures
Awesome video! Thank you!
dhe end statement by the commenraror is profoundly important, Understanding them is important.
the best way to understand dc machine mechanism...............thanks..
This video is suprisingly informative, I liked the way they explained armature reaction.
