You nailed it on the head. This is exactly why PS2 era in particular was phenomenal. I never knew there was a term for it, but this is exactly where I feel happiest with games. "Middle market", I won't forget that. Thank you and thank you, Gamez of War.
Middle market games still exist. They're just harder to find now. I'd say a game like empire of sin is middle market but chances are you haven't play/don't know if.

Nothing better than having the day off, getting a coffee, putting the feet up and listening to half an hour of underrated 360/PS3 games from my favorite youtuber.
You really blew me back to the past with some of those titles. I haven't played some of these games in YEARS like Majin and Knights Contract. Wow. You are right, this whole sort of mid-tier games genre is dying. A few that come to mind are Anima (as mentioned), We Happy Few, The Little Girl and The Robot, Recore, Fall of Light, Masters of Anima, Mulaka and Morphite.

Bionic Commando is criminally underrated. Some good games you have not mentioned: Yakuza dead Souls, Deadly Premonition, Alpha protocol, Lolipop Chainsaw, Shadows of the Dammned, Inversion, Duke Nukem Forever, Battle Fantasia, Bullet Witch

The Lost Planet games are my favorite underrated games on the 360 good games and love the monster designs and the vital suits are so cool

man I been looking for a video like this for years. When I was a teen and the 7th gen was at its highest I loved buying gaming magazines. A lot of the games had pretty average scores, but goddamn the screenshots looked great so I just picked them right away, and a lot of them turned out to be a lot of fun. Rip middle market games :
I remember one middleware game I liked back in the day was Bladestorm: The Hundred Years War. It was a crowd-based brawler (or musou) but you controlled a platoon of soldiers rather than one unit and could issue commands to your soldiers and all that. It felt epic leading a cavalry charge and shit like that. Plus I’m a sucker for historical-based games.

Yep. I'm not a huge fan of Gamestop but you can't beat their 4 for $20 preowned deals and every one of the games mentioned would fall under this frequent sale.
GameStop is doing a 4 for $10 deal right now on games $4.99 or less. That's $2.50 a game. 😁

Majin was great - cute and fun; and I absolutely loved Kingdoms of Amalur -- too bad it had such negative baggage with the developer :( I had a game save glitch that erased my save right at the end,(only time its ever happened to me in a game), and I was right at the end, i was so mad (hours upon hours lost), i gave it away and never beat it...
Dragon's Dogma is great but isnt really a hidden gem anymore - its pretty popular, its actually been re-released a few times now, (most recently on Switch like last month). And I think its pretty well known now/pretty good seller now.
But yeah, Viking was my standout in this video, game I'd never heard of and never see mentioned, picked it up and was in love - probably doesn't hold up as well now, but some of the stuff it did was very ahead of its time - epic battles, taking forts, you could kind of get lost at first because you could head to most objectives right off the bat, and some were just too tough to tackle early unless you were an expert. You could just run and attack the marching line of bad guys, you'd get your ass kicked, then realize you need to hide as they go by, and go and free some buddies from cages to help you first. i really appreciated it/put a lot of time into it :)
Heavenly Sword I thought was next to perfect, never understood the "7" review score. It was the first time I felt I was playign a movie, the acting was superb. And Enslaved is the story of Monkey, so its Goku if you like DBZ. Great games. Overlooked for no reason.
Binary Domain. Asuras Wraith, Splatterhouse, Vanquish -- these are the games I played and loved and I skipped a lot of the AAA games that others played. Memory lane here :)

So glad you're back man! I know what you mean about this family of games. I have fond memories of going to the game store with my buddies before a gaming night and buying a few used titles on the cheap. One of my favourites from this time was crimson sea 2, also a lot of love for time shift and the bionic commando remake.

One of mine is Shadows of the Damned. Over the top humor and RE4 style combat. Definite solid 7/10 - fun yet ridiculous.

xxkomebackkidxx damn, I had timeshift awhile back! Forgot all about that one, traded it years ago, need to grab another copy!
Finally someone besides me that loved Bionic Commando. I had so much fun with that game. Another game (but it was PS2) that I had a ton of fun with was Psy--ops. I think that is one of the most enjoyable games I have ever played on any system. It was fantastic and varied gameplay until the last level where...I don't know what happened.
taffer psi ops was my jam!!! Loved that tele-kenisis!!!! Midway was on fire back on the PS2!!one hell of a game!
Cool that the channels back, especially as it disappeared just when I found it. Currently playing what I think is an underrated game while waiting for Shenmu 3. You've probably played it but if not I wholeheartedly recommend Darkest Dungeon.

When I play Dark Sector it always reminds me of the movie Krull! It's old but a classic for back in the day.

I only recently found out it was the precursor to Warframe, looking back at Dark Sector after playing Warframe it's super obvious to me now.
Currently playing Remember Me. I love the platforming and the combat, and you’re right right: the critics shit all over those parts. I’m about 20% through the game so far, and I’m loving it. And it only cost me $12 this past weekend.

You see this Josh. All likes, 0 dislikes. It just goes to show you that despite the age of the channel, people still and will always appreciate the content you make. I always like the concept of this mid tier games because they may not have the budgets of AAA titles, and they may not be the most polished games out there but they can implement some pretty good original ideas and its just unfortunate that while the budgets of games keep getting higher, these types of games just don't get made anymore because its either your game is a triple aaa title or its an indee title with the gap for mid tier games getting smaller and smaller but thanks for bringing attention to a lot of these games. I don't really have any interest in playing a lot of them since I only own two out of the games you mentioned which were El Shedai and Vanquish but I'm sure people will take a lot of these suggestions to heart.

Man, my favourite channel and also I got my PS3 cfw'd and my 360 jtag'd so man I'm drowning in so many cool games. Jeez, these games are so gd or look so gd. I had no idea there was so many of these hack n slash games. Im playing Killer is Dead, Shadows of the damned and that hack slash Metal Gear game forgot the name atm but yeh oh Ninja Gaiden Stigma also. So many. Dunno how u play these along with great rpg's too but yeh people who move on to the latest console just because everyone else does is just sad, especially selling there system and games but hey more for us :p but yeh I actually go for consoles no one plays. I play Wii and WiiU atm too. Love it. Anyway can't thank u enough for these gems. I'll def try buy n play them all. B cool to have a big hack n slash collection going. For a big arcade beat em up fan I've gravitated nicely to the hack n slash genre and there so good. Perfect. Your a legend m8! Really enjoy ya vids. Hope everything is going okay. I don't know ya personal stuff but I've got a 6 year old and been through hell the last 2 years. Its a long story. Lets just say mental health and the Australian government don't mix. But got great news just the other week and shits ok. Anyway this vids great, just what we need. I got a ps4 and Switch but because I didn't game much through the PS1 to PS3 era's I have been playing the hell out of so many fantastic games and with your vids I've been playing the cream of the crop. Don't get me wrong too I dl games but only stupidly expensive stuff. I love collecting physical media too. Love it. I'm buying the Metal Gear Solid Legacy collection atm and the God of War collection too for PS3 so yeh m8 keep up the high calibre vids. PEACE

Because besides Viking and Enslaved, I haven't played any of the other ones you mentioned! 2 other games that I would classify in the middle of the road are Just Cause 2 and The Saboteur... two fantastic games that during the time that they came out, were kind of overlooked and should definitely get more love! I saw Neverdead on your thumbnail, so maybe you're the one I should ask about this. Along with Neverdead there was another multiplat mid tier game, it was also an action game, destroyed by the critics. I can't remember its name, but it was released around the same time Neverdead was.

I have all of those games besides nighty nine night series and splatter house. So happy that binary domain got a mention! Such an underrated game. Another game I'd add to the list is Singularity. Another underrated game that surprised me. And maybe warhammer Space Marine. That was good fun and a game I didn't expect to enjoy but loved it. And 007 bloodstone.. Don't think I've ever heard anyone mention it lol, it was a bit short and needs to be played on hard (hard is like normal difficulty in most games) but it was actually a really good game that good looked over

Finally, Glad you made a new video, Your channel is completely underrated, Everytime I watch your videos I can tell you have passion for gaming just like mines, Willing to give some of the underrated games a chance. If you are interested in some underrated upcoming games, Check out Atomic Heart it looks a ton like Bioshock but is definitely not very well known, I'd put Lost Planet 1 on this list too, While Lost Planet isn't a unknown series the 1st Lost Planet is extremely underrated, Awesome Sci-Fi game.
I loved both lost planet 1 and 3, the first one totally blew me away during the early days of the 360.

Have you ever played Bullet Witch on 360? That was one I really enjoyed because of its art style and was different.
Zev Zero bullet witch was included in this video..I had to cut it due to the time constraints...I love the game to this day!

interesting to hear about vikings i remember when it came out i thought it looked interesting but i kinda forgot about it. dude vanquish is one of my favorite 3rd person shooter from that gen no joke and binary domain was pretty fun to and felt like a great terminator game and i find it interesting that it was made by the yakuza team. splatterhouse was exactly what you would expect and i enjoyed it just wish the load times were better but other wise its a ton of fun.
1 PS4 game i did like that i would consider middle of the road is girl and the robot. its not amazing but i found it was enjoyable for a action puzzle game where you use both the girl and the robot

Some early PS3 games I sold to get the 360 version because early PS3 games didn't have trophies. Dark Sector I sold for that reason and remembered after one of the things i liked about it was the motion controls. So it's one I still need to re buy back.

Excellent, excellent list. Splatterhouse gets no love when it really should. The game is NOT perfect, with weird difficulty spikes near the end, iffy platforming, and a rushed finale, but the combat, story (surprisingly), finishing moves, unlcockable original titles, and most of all, Jim Cummings stellar voice work, make it worth playing easily. Also, noticed the terror mask prop in the background, nice touch.

There are more and more high quality indie games coming out that I think qualify as these "middle of the road" games. Games like Observation, My Time at Portia, Divinity: Original Sin 2, Oceanhorn 2, Moons of Madness, Hellblade, Close to the Sun, The Outer Wilds (not to be confused with The Outher Worlds), etc.

I really enjoyed what little bit of time I've put into Wet--I really need to revisit it someday. Overlord is one I keep forgetting about! I really need to track that one down! Ah, the Puppeteer--I think we have that digitally--forgot all about it--thank you! It really does look good!
Trying to rebuild my collection after the fire but i found a "Overlord Dark legend " on the Wii! crossing my fingers its s good or close to the ps3 one... Maybe not but found it in a thrift store along with The legend of Mana (ps1) both mint for 2 bucks! Another great vid ..thanks!
