I Turned Zelda's Iconic "Puzzle Jingle" Into a Full Song

- I took Zelda's iconic "Puzzle-Solved" jingle (AKA "Secret Sound") and turned it into a full track using my keyboards and synthesizers.
This idea randomly popped into my head just a few hours before recording. I had a lot of fun with it, and I think the results ended up sounding similar to a Legend of Zelda dungeon theme.
I documented the entire process (the session took around 2 hours) but edited it down to a short video for you. Hope you enjoy!

I woke up this morning with a GoPro on my head! How strange. Let me know what you think of this style of shooting. :)
The style is nice, but it gives the video a ‘fisheye’ look
I like the GoPro view. It's easier to see what notes you're playing. Helps me to visualize the sounds, especially when you play chords too.
I liked it
@@blood-redeemeddragon thanks for the feedback :)
This is actually one of the coolest things I've seen in a while.
It also unironically sounds a lot like a Zelda dungeon theme
Thank you so much! That really means a lot. Appreciate you being here :)
The full track sounds like I went through a dark dungeon and exited to Zora's Domain.
Hey Sky Lark! I love that it sounds that way to you, that's awesome. Thanks for the feedback! :)
Yeah the chords for the final section screamed Zora’s Domain to me too!
Woah you're right the tritones do sound very Zelda-ish. I would have never thought to do a tritone harmony, thought it would sound awful but it actually just came out spooky.
Thanks! Yes lots of Zelda tracks use tritones, especially with strings :)
@@GLASYS Must be a tri-force thing
I love the explanation of how you fit the Secret Sound into a Diatonic scale, what a cool transformation. I can hear the melody but it makes me _feel_ so different!
It's amazing how small changes in music can convey such different emotions. That's the beauty of harmony. Thanks so much Talanky :)
I agree completely. I am definitely going to incorporate this is my improve/screw around on the piano time. It’s funny because much of the jazz dogma is to get away from the diatonic scale but this exercise reinforces the notion that tactful use of diatonic and diminished/augmented scales really allows a performer to produce beautiful sounds with just one melody.
That's... interesting, diminished while moving down while augmented moving up. Fitting
Loved watching this song evolve, Gil! Amazing how the Cmaj diatonic changes the mood of the song from mysterious and scary to warm and happy! Thanks for sharing your genius!
Hi Kathleen! Always appreciate your feedback! Thanks so much! :) 🙏
Dude, you're genius, I imagined this as the song for a dungeon, and that the end part could be the music for when you get out of it and end up in a beautiful forest. The new perspective is nice, I like to be able to see the way you work in a new way!
P.D: You made me laugh when you pretended to scream :D
Hey Julz! You're very kind my friend, thanks so much for the nice words! I love the idea of stepping out of a dungeon into a nice open world, that's pretty much what I had in mind and I'm glad it came across. :)
Duuuuuuude....dude, WOW! That was so cool, I didn't think the jingle had enough for a whole song but you absolutely nailed it! This would fit right in for a bonus dungeon or something in Breath of the Wild where there are treasure chests everywhere but most of them are fake or trigger enemies and only a few reveal the path forward. Maybe like a Mimic dungeon or something! As always, incredible stuff man!!
Hey 8 Bit Alchemy, thanks so much dude! Your support and enthusiasm really keep me motivated! I LOVE that mimic dungeon idea, so cool :)
This was deep! That heart beat. wow, perfect! You captured so much Zelda flavor in this short video. The go pro head mount is a great effect if used sparingly. not so great as a prop or costume. If I had that killer keyboard studio you have, I would build an overhead camera rig. One that can be moved around the room easily, so you can lose it for the wide shots. Keep up the badness!
Haha I read the end of your comment as "keep up the baldness". which I'll definitely do lol!
Thanks for the kind words and multi-platform feedback man! Yeah I'll experiment with a fixed overhead angle next time. My studio is tiny and it's challenging to get that right.
Love the POV, would be stoked to see more of it. Also the tritone harms are seriously quintessential Zelda sounding. 🤘
Thanks Sam! YES, tritones are so ubiquitous in Zelda - I don't know why I didn't think of that in my last Zelda inspired track. :)
This rocks! I really enjoyed seeing how things could swap from spooky to relaxing with such minimal changes. Immediately felt like an entirely new experience and was a lot of fun to watch.
Thanks Andrew! I'm glad you enjoyed this man! Yeah that's the beauty of harmony / scales - small changes can evoke completely different emotions :)
When the entire dungeon is a series of secret paths. Must destroy Ganon.😡
Awesome video and song.
That reminds me of OoT's "Eye of Truth" haha. Thanks so much dude!
@@GLASYS No kidding? Hahaha, youre the man, Glasys. This channel is lots of fun. 🙂
I really like the new perspective by using a GoPro on your head! It’s amazing how you can turn such a tiny tune into something you can vibe to.
Thanks Javy! Really glad you like the new shooting style! :)
Exactly this comment^
I'm playing through Links Awakening so this is perfect timing!
That track is so sick! I'd love to hear that major section explored more, that sounded fantastic.
And love the gopro! It makes you look like a Zelda character haha.
Haha thanks Crumb! Hopefully I don't look like Tingle lol. Man Link's Awakening is so amazing, I've played it a million times and I'm never tired of it :)
Incredible result! Absolutely loved it, you nailed the Zelda vibe 100%. The head camera is a neat idea, i like it but it can definitely be a bit dizzying at times. :p
Thanks so much! And I appreciate the feedback on the shooting style :)
OK, Gil...I'm gonna go to film school and start making movies, this may take some time...but when I'm in my 70's I'm going to hire you to do all my theme and soundtracks!! Hope I can afford your talent and brilliance! At least I'll know the soundtracks will be blockbusters!!! haha ';D Cheers!
I look forward to that day Jim! Haha thanks so much my friend :)
Amazing result! It was also super cool to see your creation process, first-person and all! :D
Thanks Rômulo! Glad you like it brother! :)
I don't know how you don't have more views on these, real insight into composition and music theory while also crushing skill. Keep it up
Thanks so much for the encouragement and support! Glad you found these vids helpful and enjoyed them! :)
Evil Great Fairy of Time's Fountain.
Love it!
It’s really cool watching you put together these masterpieces!
Thanks so much my friend! :D
this sounds like a legit bgm for a zelda dungeon that starts with a pressed switch, and ends with the optimistic treasure room theme. well done :D
That's so awesome to hear, thanks Evanguard! Appreciate it 🙏
I always come away from your videos feeling so inspired. The feelings this song gives me make me want to make some crazy emotional story-driven games.
Hey Josh! Thanks so much man, trying to inspire others is the reason I make these videos and it's so great to hear that you feel this way. Means a lot! :)
The best part was watching you listen back at the end, I do the same thing! It's like a whole movie is in my head that nobody ever gets to see, they only get the soundtrack, lol!
Haha very true! Thanks so much Richard, appreciate the kind words man! :)
More of these please! This is super creative, great work
Thank you! Really appreciate the kind words and encouragement 😊🙏
That scream brought back memories of the first Zelda. Couldn't you tell when you were next to a boss room because they would scream and you could hear it muffled through the walls?
"Ah yes, the Temple Temple." "what theme is this one again?" "it's zelda-dungeon themed. the final boss is just a huge locked door with an unlit torch on the other side"
FANTASTIC!!! I loved this so much! The way you react to it at the end was everything!!!
Hey thank you so much! Really appreciate the kind words, means a lot! :)
Great work 💪
Yo thanks so much Chris! Means a lot 🙏
Such a great idea! I appreciate the amount of video game videos you do. It’s such a underrated genre of music. Your the best!!
So creative man love this! Bring back the good stuff!
Thank you for incorporating the theory side of things, as I tend to interpret music in these relationships. Definitely gained a subscriber and I'll use this as some inspiration for my composition project in music theory! (I'm hoping to put a lil sample of zelda music into each of my movements)
Thanks for the kind words and sub Rebekah! Best of luck with your composition project, if you wanna share it when it's done I'd love to have a listen. Cheers :)
This is Incredible man! Great work. You are such a talented musician. Instant subscribe :)
Hi Jay! Thanks so much for the kind words and sub, I really appreciate it! Welcome to the channel :)
You have a great ear and skills that kills on those keys. That was fantastic. Seems to me that you really have put in a lot of dedication to your craft and I commend you for it.
Hi Luis! Thank you so much for the nice words, you're very kind! So glad you enjoyed it! 🙏 :)
The pretty outro calls back memories of Earthbound. Very good memories
Never played that game, but I wish I had! Maybe I'll give it a go someday :)
The first section has the vibe of a Zelda song mixed with a late game Mario level
Thanks M! That's awesome :)
My little girl said it did sound like the "lava bowzer" level. Lol
So cool how music can evoke such a wide range of feelings!
Music is life! Thanks Luke :)
This done Lo-Fi would be killer! Great job as always!
Thanks! That would be cool, for a remix :)
this was mesmerizing to watch and listen to, your skill is inspirational and your attitude infectious
Hey friend, sorry I missed your comments! Thanks so much for the kind words, really glad you enjoyed the videos! 🙏
@@GLASYS you are very kind and an apology is certainly not necessary, but i appreciate you taking the time to respond! hope you have a great week my friend
dude! That is such a weird melody and what you did with it was brilliant. 👏👏
Thanks dude! it is a quirky theme, I honestly wonder how Koji Kondo came up with it :)
@@GLASYS I wonder this as well!
you are criminally undersubscribed to
Thanks for believing in me Josh! 🙏
What a great idea related to the video game topic! Instead of watching people playing fps (first-person shooter) games here we got another kind of fps experience: first-person studio! At GLASYS workstation the augmentation of reality hits the whole audible dimension, more than in the chordal way alone - to show us how merely plain our humble tries in making music really are ;-)! All the best and thank you for sharing your content which is a huge motivation in developing own skills and especially for giving us creative influence :-)!
Thanks so much for the kind words Curtis! I'm so glad these videos are motivating you to create more music - that's what it's all about! :)
Gee dude, putting aside your fantastic skills, you have some very fun ideas! if nothing else I hope you continue to have fun with your projects!
Also 7:29 hit real good! Idk my scales, or how you would, like, collapse one... but that is a tasty little scale!
Hey, thanks for the kind words! I’m glad you enjoyed this. I’m definitely still having fun with my projects 😀🙏
Mario, in an underground maze: How-a the heck do I get outta this-a creepy place?
Zelda: Sorry, Mario, but _your_ princess is on another cartridge!
Marvelous !! Next camera !?! Inside your head ! 😎(those musical brainwaves should be amazing !) thank you for sharing your art.
Thanks! Haha a camera in my head sounds painful! :)
I just discovered your channel... Very inspiring! Been watching all night. I'm a novice musician but I'm gonna bust out my Roli stuff and mess around more often now. Thanks!
Thanks Tom! Really appreciate you being here my friend, welcome to the channel. :)
I was questioning alot of those decisions during the dev process but it all came together pretty nice. That dark to light theme tho, what a shift, 😂
Thanks! :)
Beautiful! Reminds me of Zora’s Domain actually.
Thank you! That's awesome, I hadn't thought of Zora's Domain. I should cover that tune sometime :)
How does this not have more views this is FIRE

So cool! love the little theory explanations too
the headgear is fun (you look like a dwarf digging in the tunnels of sound for musical ores)
kind of want you to blend the heartbeat kick with a more solid thud sound... it doesn't quite have the body i want from a kick idk
lol but also for 2 hours of work this is incredibly impressive and I'm not even trying to hate

Awesome!!! I like the GoPro head cam.
Thanks Jon! Really appreciate the feedback man :)
@@GLASYS I love your work and enjoy every minute. Amazing hands!!! Magic, man, magic.
This guy makes me question what it takes to blow up. This is quality.
Thanks so much for your support Relm! It's hard to blow up on CZcams, especially when your videos only appeal to a very niche audience. I'm very grateful for any support I get. :)
Cool, yeah it's ok seeing it from your perspective, but I prefer the birds eye view, we can see all your cool synths and how you have octopus arms going everywhere. Lol. Do games mostly make their music on 8 bit synths? Its excellent seeing you give them some engineering on amazing equipment, keep it up sir, it's a pleasure to see you work, .Jai.
Thanks for the feedback and kind words Jai! I'll keep experimenting with the camera angles. My studio is tiny so it's hard to find something that works. The older games had 8 bit sound chips, but already in the 90s it evolved to sample based music.
So much to unpack with this video. First, liked the GoPro used in moderation. Really emphasizes your chops. Do you play those lines live?! If so, bravo. Second, loooved the tune. The Prophet samples, the clave, choice of drum samples were all very tasteful. The soft pad was my favorite and made me think of Earthbound. Third, if Earthbound isn't in the bucket it needs to be!
Hey Shawnebaby, thanks so much for the detailed feedback! I'm really glad you enjoyed it. Yes, all the footage you see/hear is live. Earthbound is on the list, though I've never played or heard it - but it's been recommended a lot and I look forward to checking it out :)
You're a geeenius! Much love! X
You're so kind, thanks Dollyspit! :)
I like the grand piano vibe too
Thank you Thomas! :)

Glad you like it brother, thanks! :)
You are soo cool ! Love from Switzerland 💖
Thanks so much hotataho! I've only been to Switzerland when I was 13, hope to visit again sometime :)
My favorite part of the song was the end, I think the whole thing works as a theme, and additional sections would be welcome
Thanks Ulo! Yeah I'm glad I added that end part, something just felt missing without it. Appreciate the feedback! :)
your pov here was really nice
Thanks Joe! Glad you like it!
triforce, tritones.. makes sense! lol jk i actually know nothing about music but i can say for sure you do!
you kill it everytime sir 🙏🏻
thank you for these !
Haha thanks angel drip! "The Triforce Tritone" would make for a great Zelda villain 😂
This was an awesome idea! Super cool sound came out of it. I don’t know if I’m in the minority but I don’t mind telling you the GoPro did make me dizzy, haha. But it was worth it.
Thank you Michael! Appreciate the feedback and honesty. Sorry it made you feel a little dizzy haha. In the future I think I'll keep using it, but I'll set up a 3rd camera as well and use a lot less of the GoPro footage. Hopefully get the best of both options. :)
@@GLASYS Yes! After watching the Clock Tower video, the mix of GoPro in there was cool :)
But also seriously, I didn't make a big enough deal of how much I like the end part of the puzzle jingle song you did. Because it's SO AWESOME.

@@GLASYS 😁👍🏼
Hell yeah!
Thanks brother! :)
I had to play this twice because the first time i was listening from the other side of my room and I was feeling a little extra clever because I heard you sneak in a bunch of other songs, but on the second viewing.... I'm just not sure anymore if it was intentional, or if I've just tricked myself.
At first I thought the bass sounded like Mario World's Boo house theme, but now I'm not sure if it's that or the lower part of the Link to the Past dungeon theme...
Later I heard what HAD to be a play on the bird warp whistle melody...
But then the 5:20 part you specifically mention how it sounds like Zelda (Specifically the high part of the LttP dungeon theme) SO I JUST DONT KNOW ANYMORE 😫
Haha honestly I wasn't thinking about any specific tune (other than the jingle I based this on of course), and just went with my gut feeling. It's cool that you heard those other themes in there though - those are definitely all inspirations! Thank you :)
Great song for the secret shrine from BotW.
Ohh thank you! :)
the first person view is cool 😍

Hey Glasys! Twas a good idea having that GoPro! I’d really love to try and remix this one out. I liked the eerie intro feel but your melodic parts are sublime. Would you please share the midi notes to it too? I’m no keyboard prodigy like you. I just try my best
Hi Erick! I'll gladly send you the stems - I haven't exported them yet but feel free to email me at info@glasysmusic.com and I'll put them together asap. I don't have midi for most tracks, since they were recorded as audio - but I'm happy to help if you have any theory/note questions.

11:09 sounds like Wii Sports
Now I'm curious to check that out. Never had a Wii :)
By a chance, might anyone know what this genre of music would be categorized as, specifically the latter half (happier part) of the song?
I'm pretty bad at naming genres - but maybe something like "video game synthpop"?
