    Funny you mention “tents” I was studying that yesterday specifically in the Book of Mormon and we see tents with war camps, with migration, to surround king Benjamin who constructed a wood tower, showing there is no existing tower, perhaps a plain or open area (much like Christ speaking and His apostles echoing His words, like prophets today) and when Christ comes to His temple in the midst of the joy in tribulation and repair of the temple and their spirits. The words of Isaiah are spoken using imagery of a tent, something they have become very familiar with and applicable to their understanding, I found that fascinating. I love these videos! This is the talk radio, podcasts, and media we need rather than junk food media. Thank you!

    I had the privilege to have Professor Welch as my law professor in the 1980's. He is a genuine polymath. The Hugh Nibley for our day. I am grateful the Lord has given him gifts of intellect, languages, curiosity, insight, analysis, memory, and the ability to make synthetic connections to illuminate passages defying the theory an uneducated Joseph Smith concoted the Book of Mormon. Brother Welch's humility and diligence, and his generosity in sharing with us, is a fulfillment of his calling and of the restoration scriptures. Thank you both for producing these videos. May the Lord bless you always.

    Wow! Wow! What was explained in this presentation about the circumstances surrounding Laban's exit, is something I suspected for a long time. I didn't do the in depth research, but what Bro Welch said is exactly how I understand it, and it took time to get there.
    What I do know is that the Lord gives life and he can take it too. This was a hard concept for me to understand at first in this context, but when I weighed up the impact it would've had on generations, It would have changed the course of life as we know it. Simply put, it was too much of a risk to let Laban live.
    The healing, joy and many blessings that have come as a result of having the BOM today outweighs the death of Laban.
    The BOM has also saved so many lives both here, and on the other side of the veil. If the Lord has to remove individuals from the game of life for the benefit of all his children, I can fully understand that.
    There is a very narrow exception to the rule like Bro Welch said, and it has to be a really good reason.
    I know people who have stopped reading the BOM at this point because they don't understand why the Lord would allow this to happen. I think in time they will understand, if they ask the spirit for help.
    Thank you Sis Wilson and Bro Welch, I enjoyed this presentation ❤️

    Thank you soooo much for your wonderful insights. No wonder why Nephi answers "I will go and do" because he had seen his father going and doing the Lord's will all his life and more when called as a prophet. Your insights about the law in Exodus were so wonderful because it helped me understand why Nephi was asked to slay Laban. Not only Nephi obeyed the Spirit, but it made sense to him because what he had learned in his youth was brought to his memory and recognized that it came from God. No wonder, again, why the prophet encourages our youth to attend seminary, or for us parents to study the scriptures with our children so that they can remember the word of God in the future, when they will need it the most. Thank you for your time and for sharing your knowledge with all of us. Excited for next week's ❤

    Simply wonderful! You tied together all the personal and church history events as well as clarified the confusing order of the large plate/small plate compilation and translation. My husband and I toured the Church history sites and I’ve been studying the D&C and Book of Mormon, but still came away not remembering what was done where. This brought it all together so well and what a testimony to the truthfulness of the book and of the prophet’s calling from God. Thank you!!

    Thank you. You discuss reasons why Lehi was asked to testify to Jerusalem of the coming perils to that city. An additional reason might be that, by bearing testimony and prophesying, Lehi strengthened and cemented his own testimony. He would rely on that testimony in the coming years of exile, emigration and colonizing the promised land. We build our own testimony by bearing it.

    Dr. David A. Falk postulates that the Ark of the Covenant was likely along with other processional furniture and items and was melted down in the same large furnace later used where an angel saved Daniel’s brethren. I would speculate that the wisemen were granted the opportunity to copy their metal records so the metals could be used to pay off the army of Babylon, and I think that Nebakenazer would allow this as his understanding was that the Jewish God allowed him to take Jerusalem, so he possibly honors this by the preservation of record which Daniel and his brethren learn from and add to. Maybe.

    Nephi getting the brass plates doesn't explain why Nephi was commanded to kill Laban.
    Nephi could have rendered Laban unconscious, given Laban was drunk already. Nephi could have then bound and gagged him rather than killing him.
    The Lord wanted Nephi to kill Laban to understand something much greater. Remember Nephi since young knew full well "Thou shalt not kill."

  • @JpVicvega
    @JpVicvega Před 7 měsíci +2

    There's a couple things that I've always wondered about like the Angel appearing to them in glory and light, there is just no evidence for that but that is how It always seems to be depicted. Isn't it also possible that this event had no real lasting impact for Laman and Lemuel (other than them constantly accusing Nephi of trying to be their ruler) because the Angel appeared to look like a normal man and delivered his message, certainly would have shocked them because this guy came out of nowhere saw what they were doing and then said what he said but in turn caused them to doubt it later, just a thought.
    Also the other thing I've been pondering lately is Nephi killing Laban but not why it was ok for him to do it, I mean God told him to do it so of course it was ok but why did God specifically have him do it. God could have had Laban have a heart attack and already been dead or died in a myriad of different ways but why did God put Nephi in that situation of having to chop off another man's head with his own sword, the one thing spiritually confident Nephi probably never expected was going to happen when he went into the city for the plates, maybe there is a deeper lesson there but unfortunately he never really addresses it other than through the lens of legalese.

    • @kevinfrancis4255
      @kevinfrancis4255 Před 7 měsíci +1

      An angel is only a messenger, not the testifier. We can have all kinds of spiritual experiences from time to time that can leave an impression, but seldom is that impression a lasting one, unless the Holy Ghost testifies of it. As far as Nephi cutting off Laban’s head goes, he was commanded to do so. Besides, under the law of Moses, Laban was already guilty of crimes that could have resulted in his death. Anyhow, there was obviously a lesson for Nephi in doing something so difficult. Ask yourself why the Lord has any of us do the things He needs, when He could very well do them Himself.

    • @JpVicvega
      @JpVicvega Před 7 měsíci +2

      @@kevinfrancis4255 I really don't care that Nephi slew him but in our current times as members of the church I don't think we could possibly fathom God asking someone to do such a thing but he could, how far would you be willing to go for God? I think that is something worth pondering. Nephi definitely learned something about Nephi that night.

    • @kevinfrancis4255
      @kevinfrancis4255 Před 7 měsíci

      I agree with you. I’ve asked myself that very question. I do not believe God would ask anyone nowadays to take the life of another the way Nephi did. Our society, and our laws are so different now compared to then.

    • @sionemataele7900
      @sionemataele7900 Před 7 měsíci

      Understand that Laban has attempted to kill Nephi and his brothers after they went in with their father’s wealth was left behind, to make a trade with Laban for the Brass Plates, so they had to run away for their lives and left the wealth that had taken in, known this that the Lord toNephi that it is better to lose One life than lose a Nation, I’m sure you understand what that means, also understand that the Nephi told his father that he will go and do what the Lord commanded, Nephi knew it was the Lord was asking him to go and get the Brass Plates, it was not his father, and he said that the Lord will never ask him to do anything, unless he has prepared a way to accomplish it, when we are commanded by the Lord to do something regardless of what the command, we need to do it even if it will cause us our lives, that is to show our Heavenly Father that we are all in with Him and Jesus Christ in fulfilling Their Will what ever it will take to accomplish it

      Wow, @byutobcs. You refer to Dr. Wilson as “Lynn” instead of Dr. Wilson-you don’t acknowledge her expertise. It sounds like you can’t hear that they give and take and that both interject as the other talks. It sounds a lot like you’d prefer the men did the talking. (You might be interested in research by the Utah Women in Leadership Project: a majority of men hear female speech as interruption.)

    There is nothing sacred about the Book of Mormon. God’s word, the Holy Bible says it is complete. End of discussion.

      Only there is too much proven evidence that there are more text besides the bible. You are missing so much because your mind is closed, there is more to this world than you know.

      God commands prophets to write his words and lead the people who will believe. Nowhere does the Bible indicate that “no other revelation can ever be given.”
      God’s own pattern (from Adam through John the Revelator and the Book of Mormon prophets) is revelation through a prophet.
      The anomaly is a period of silence from heaven.
      The Biblical injunction not to add to (or diminish from) the word of God is for you and me: it is not for prophets, whose entire role is to receive and record revelation! (The same injunction found in Revelation is found in Deuteronomy. If no one were to “add to the word,” we’d have nothing beyond Deuteronomy.)

    Sounds interesting but she is a bit over powering. Calm down a bit. He speaks softly, articulately, and with knowledge.

      She talks very masculine, which I've noticed common with females who talk regularly on platforms. Inevitable really as the act of proclamation or heralding was always a males role.

      Good grief. Did you happen to hear or read President Nelson’s talk, “A Plea to My Sisters”? He’s urging sisters to use their gifts, and here you are, wanting to smack her down for doing so? Perhaps you were the intended audience for his talk.
