    This series is just getting better and better. Not the usual suspects, the low hanging fruit of the 909's and 808's etc - now we are getting the less known products that studios ACTUALLY used back in the day. Keep up the good work! KUDOS DyReck.

      I still use this thing , I’ve owned it for 20 years .
      Thanks to a CZcamsr JaY B who has put out an incredible EDM sound set , (you have to buy special usb sticks on Amazon to use with this )
      But ya this thing is still what I use to play midi pianos .
      The menu diving on the ES is way more esoteric than the XS due to the XS having a larger LCD .
      I did some crazy stuff with my motif, I put ram from my cpu in it and a usb hard drive which allowed sampling , then I hooked my tonelab guitar pedal up to the motif via MIDI.
      I could then sample any sound , put it as a voice on the motif , then PLAY IT on my guitar and the tonelab converted the electric guitar sounds into midi.
      You could also get plug in boards to all kinds of crazy stuff I may buy the an1x .
      The small screen is less a problem as he says your doing things fast. When you want to create a voice, you use a pc program that integrates with the hardware.
      Part of me wants to buy a new modx the latest Yamaha keyboard workstation. I’ve heard it sounds great, but I’m more into analog gear these days .

      IMHO the XS and XF weren't such a great leap forward in sound quality to actually justify an upgrade. The larger colour screen and increased fader and knob counts are an upgrade but not enough to upgrade. IMHO the 2003 Motif ES has vastly superior acoustic and electric guitar and bass sounds in its 175mb sample ROM compared to the inferior guitar and bass sounds in the 2011 Kronos with its multi gigabyte sample ROM.

    • @followyourpassion8378
      @followyourpassion8378 Před 2 měsíci +1

      The XF wasn't that big of an upgrade to the XS sound wise and workflow wise, that's true. Except for a couple of voices that were a lot better.
      However, the UI has drastically changed with Montage and it is hard to go back, once you are used to it. Also, the sounds really have improved in clarity, because they are less compressed (as in size reduction).

      @@misterrandom3544 I remember loving my Korg Trinity Plus but lamenting it's limited 32 notes of polyphony compared to the completion at the time. When the Triton was released with almost double the polyphony and all those extra features, I sold the Trinity at a loss along with other music gear in order to get it. Afterwards, I realised that whilst the Triton was better in terms of features and user interface, it didn't actually sound better than the Trinity and it's increased note polyphony didn't make a radical difference to my music production.

Although I don't really use my MOTIF ES6 keyboard anymore that's in the closet as I have moved back to software sequencing after getting rid of my MPC5000. I stopped sequencing on hardware every since Mt MPC broke loosing a decade worth of beats of parts that are next to impossible to find. Just so you know the secret strings that Scott Storch was using wasn't coming from his MOTIF ES8 esp in hat video clip. That was all Roland strings from the SRX-04 expansion board he had installed in his Roland XV-5080 sound module as he owned two them that's Cleary visible in that video. The Strings on Fat Joe Lean Back was all Roland. Scott Storch didn't necessarily use all the sounds from his MOTIF ES keyboard as he used as a Midi controller too, to trigger sounds from his collection of sound modules midied to his MPC.

    The Yamaha EX5 also had the same effect processor alongside 5 synthesis engines it has all the lo-fi stuff that the Motif had in 1998! Sadly the weak DSP processing power made it a very poor workstation by only allowing two layers out of 16 and the sequenser is a bit weird to work with. It made up for that by being a great "Swizz army knife" synthesizer. On the Motif I agree with the "just works" comment, its a workhorse, its not too exciting in comparison to its predecessor, but it has some great sounds and always get the job done for most tasks.

Next thing you know a buddy of mine stole the unit when he was off that stuff! So I ended up mainly working with software samplers. Motif XS is a good unit too, but they stopped making them now. It's doubled polyphony, vastly improved sample ROM and massive fx power with the ability to run up to 8 dual system insert fx in multi mode, each part with dedicated 3 band EQ was outstanding, not to mention those phenomenal sounding megavoiced guitars and basses that left those in my beloved Triton Classic for dead!

If I put this VOICE in a PERFORMANCE, do I only lose in real time volume controls (drowbars effect) or also the samples?
