This video, solved my issue. It was not my compressor. Endedup being my controller. You..... saved me from buying a new unit. Thank you!
Yay! Love to hear it!
@darrenscully7850 What vintage and model Coleman do you have? I just did RVRepairWoman's wonderful compressor test and ours passed the test. I'm lost.
@@AlexanderMorseDesigneryeah me also I can’t figure out my Coleman mach
I do the majority of my RV repairs. I needed this video. I will be testing my unit as my ac runs and I can hear the compressor come on but it doesn't cool. Thank you for explaining the test process. I suspected a freon leak but I don't see any black oily substance around anywhere. Again, thank you.
Sorry the phone closed on me so I noticed on this unit if I turn off the AC and wait 10 or 15 seconds turn it back on, it cools properly with a 15 to 20° difference. When I did this I went back up top and did the measurement and the black wire was reading a little less than double the other two wires so now the compressor is not bad.
It seems to blow hot air more frequently when it's hot outside than when it's cold right now I'm sitting in a chili nicely cool motorhome after the sun has gone down and the AC has been putting out great cold air but sometime tomorrow it'll switch back to not cooling. I don't think my compressor is bad or it's bad in that sometimes it totally works and sometimes it doesn't. What could it be I'm at a loss for my next step and the different technicians honestly don't know what they're doing. Your videos are more informative that they could ever hope to be.
This video made it so easy to figure out I had a bad compressor with bad resistance readings across all three terminals. Thank you RVRW 😊
This information was so useful as it saved me so much time and let us know that the compressor was indeed bad. Thanks again for your help!
Glad it helped!
Great job!! One of the best DIY type videos I have watched
Thank you Emily! I've watched this and your video about the water heater. Both are very amazing and you're brilliant!!! Ty
Great work!
Nicely done! It was great to see the test of the compressor motor. Quick test to see if it's time to bite the bullet and replace the unit. I'd like to carry a troubleshooting PDF for my Mach 15000btu heat pump in my rig to refer to WHEN there's an issue.
Thanks for the great information!
Great video!
TERRIFIC, WELL DONE, as a woman this makes sense when looking at what some guys are teaching and cannot relate to I totally understand. THANKS!!
You got this!!!
That was awesome. Thanks Don
Glad you enjoyed it!
You are a very bright young lady. I employed text in a different field and you've got all the gears in place!
I've got a Coleman mock air conditioner that sometimes blows ambient temperature air. If I go upstairs and do the test that you did I noticed my black wire is running less than half of the combination of my other two wires on the compressor which means bad per your troubleshooting.
Thank you!!! I've had male RV Techs talk down to me - I so appreciate you!
Happy to help!
Great job! Now I have two favorite woman on CZcams, you and Chickanic.
Great show! God bless.
Thank you
Thanks, you deserve every penny you earn from these tutorial videos. I hope it's all you desire.
I have a new 2023 Rv with a Coleman mach 15 A/C. We bought the rv last September and only started using the AC recently.
I followed the advice you mentioned in the video and used a volt meter on the compressor and it passed the test. I did not find an oily residue near the compressor or the coils, so there’s no freon leak. However my A/C is still just blowing slightly cool to almost room temperature air. Also I’m noticing after about 15 or 20 minutes that the top half of my evaporator is starting to frost over and turn to ice. The birdcage fan turns really well and moves a lot of air. I also checked my freeze sensor on the volt meter and it appears to be ok. I made sure the baffle/plenum and foil tape were in proper position. Why is my unit not blowing cold air and why is the evaporator freezing up ?
Excellent video. Concise and easy to follow. I subscribed. Vegas local too!
Thank u so much for all your test tips I have a Coleman Mac air conditioner cools on high, but not on low it just hums any advice thanks
I am 100% looking forward to your Dometic guides!
They are in the works!
Hey, my GE is blowing cool air but not cold like it new 3 years ago. Any thoughts on what I should check? Really liking your videos too.
This is a great video, I did everything stated in the video and have found out my compressor is done for. How much would it cost to replace an AC unit on. Winnebago Revel? I live in Phoenix AZ and I guess I need to find someone who can replace the AC unit now. 😔
So I have that exact unit...I tested the compressor..math added up....I changed out both the start and run capacitors...the fan runs fine on old capacitor so didn't change that one. When I turn the air conditioner on ...cold...the compressor sounds like it wants to start...makes a little noise...generator labors....then sounds like it resets and follows that pattern ever 45 seconds or so. No visible leaks.....thoughts? Not much left but almost sounds like compressor is stuck somehow.
maybe you can help me most are saying its my compressor my ac coleman mach 13.5 rough neck 2009 it starts up then sometimes trups my breaker sometimes doesnt. Its run on a gen 7500 sometimes when i turn the switch on it kicks the gen on then the ac dhen i gonto turn the ac off the gen doesnt turn off automdtically. Sometimes when i turn the gen on the ac wont kick on unless i turn the fan on let it run for a bit then switch over to auto it starts to work. But just recently its kicking the breaker
Great video! Love the energy and the way to call it like it is. Well done, just sent email for tool. Thanks!
What would cause it to short cycle but the fan stays running even on auto
Hi Emily, me again with my GE AC. I just tested my compressor and got a 0.7,2.2&2.6. It seems to add up right. Any thing else I should look into?
I can’t get your tool to work
Great video! Does the AC guide pdf you have contain the way to check for a refrigerant leak with the multimeter and anything about checking relays? Those r the last things I haven’t checked to understand if our Coleman Mach is part of the “1%” 😢. Keep up the great content!
Yes it does!
Will a bad freeze sensor keep the compressor from turning on. Ifvso what multimeter test is there to check the freeze sensor?
Unplug the freeze sense and short the two pins on the control board that you just unplugged from with some needle nose pliers. I’d the AC starts working, then the freeze sense was bad.
I tried that test today, but the compressor was leaking so bad i couldn't get a read. It was a mess. I have to put a new one in.
My coleman mach is short cycling when ac is on i just found your videos and havent checked my compressor yet but would that most likely be the problem?
I’d look at the air box and make sure it’s taped up properly if short cycling is your problem.
@rvrepairwoman I tested my compressor and got 5.8-5.1-1.1 is the 5.8 to 6.2 no Bueno?
I took and put meter clamp around black wire and got a 4.9 reading RLA on label showed 10.1. It’s a Coleman Mac 13500 unit. Temp is 83. What do you think I told them bad a/c
That sounds like refrigerant leak.
@@rvrepairwoman Thanks
Would the compressor test be the same for a Coleman 9000? Mine is blowing air only.
Yup! Same test no matter the brand of AC.
My issue is that the AC units run on shore power but not on generator . AC1 has green light on no shed , no fan or cooling . AC2 has shed light on steady , blows fan , not cooling . Pit when it’s on power show it’s works . I’m
At a loss.
Let me give you an easier test. Look up and see if you forgot to remove the winter cover! My AC stopped working this past weekend (my first trip of the season). Took the cover off and the AC came back to life.
😂that’ll do it!
😅
Do you have a PDF or a video explaining why I can hear my compressor shut off and then I get warm air and then I will get cool air for about 10 minutes and then I’ll get warm air for about 15-20 minutes and then cool air for about 10 minutes and on and on and on. It’s 93° outside and 85 to 89° inside.
I have a Coleman Mach. 30 amp trailer.
This is the issue I’m having as well.

I got on the roof and cleaned all the fins and now it’s working correctly and it’s nice and cold.
Thank you for the reply. I did that yesterday and it been working great today (it was very hot outside and it ran all day). Here’s hoping that’s all it needed. Glad to hear that was the fix for you.
@@jambrose3113
I also modified my AC. In addition to what the video below will show you I took out the little plastic rings that are connected to my vents and I taped the space up with foil tape, in place of the ring. The rings interrupt the airflow and they allow air into the space between the ceiling and the roof. Before I did the mod and taped the vents the only way you could feel the vent is I went up to it put my hand right on it. Now it gets so cold I have to aim them away from me. You lose your dump vents on the unit, but I don’t miss them and I thought I would.
Also, if you have space that extends beyond your last vent block that and tape it up as well.

@@FanceeName we are on the same page because I did all of that too. I also replaced the thermostat, run compositor, breaker, breaker fan. I think the only thing I haven’t replaced is the circuit box up in the return. Thanks for the tips! Very useful info!
Got a question. Replacing a domestic ac to a Coleman Mach ac. Do I reuse the controller box from the old domestic unit for the Coleman? Dometic ac had 110 plug to clip in a d Coleman dosent. I’m so lost. Have a video that shows how to convert dometic to Coleman. Also there’s no ceiling shroud inside the camper
Should be super easy! You’ll just need an adapter to connect the nine pin Coleman connector to the 6 pin connector on the Dometic control box. Easy product to get your hands on.
@@rvrepairwoman r u sure cause the the old domestic didn’t come with a plug. It was all hard wired in. My controller box is a lot bigger then the one I see online too

My ohm meter won’t stop, it keeps flashing different numbers. The compressor is coming on, it’s very hot and not cooling. Any advice anybody? Damn year old Coleman Mach hardly used. Bedroom unit cools great.
I saw you went to NRVTA for schooling. Did you feel hard, what were into before you were an RV tech?
The links for the AC guides are not on the webpage. Or are they still being built.
I understood that one or two were ready.

Dometic guides are still in the works!
YOU GOT THIS!
I just replaced the unit and the compressor still not running
Did I miss it, or did you not mention that the heat overload protector could be the culprit? I've had that problem and just replacing it had everything working again. Did you cover that in another video?
Thanks
I mentioned it real quick in the middle. You can test it for continuity. Was concentrating just on the compressor test for this video.
@@rvrepairwoman Thanks, I figured so, but checking that first could have been a really quick inexpensive fix. That's what mine was. I temporarily jumped / by-passed the overload protector and it blew nice cold air. Just needed to replace the overload protector. They can go bad.
Our a c is throwing the breaker still cooling when we flip it back on only flipped breaker twice in two weeks or trail runner r v is only three years old
Is it only tripping the breaker on start up? Or randomly while it’s running?
@@rvrepairwoman random while running it has only done it twice and we've been using every day for about 10 days now it's cooling just fine it just makes me nervous that breaker tripping
@@rvrepairwomanwe are on a two week trip when I get back home on 24 th might try replacing breaker
So far a c still cooling yeah it's been 95 degrees here in Texas
Mine was tripping while running. Turns out the fan inside the electrical box that cools the breakers had stopped working. The fan is about $8. The work around until I received the part was to plug in a regular fan and keep it blowing on the breaker box all day to keep it from overheating. Worked great.
@@jambrose3113 thank you for the tip I'll check it out
Good morning Emily. We just hit a 2003 Fleetwood pioneer rv and we can’t get the fridge, and the AC TURNS ON BLOWS FRESH for like 30 seconds then blows HOT 😭😭
We just GOT
What do you do if the freon has leaked out?
You’re unfortunately looking at getting a new AC.
Crap, it's just out of warranty too. I assume it's the freon as it smelled musty then stopped blowing cold. Thanks for the help!
😁 'promo sm'
Good video for checking the compressor. Should easily be a 5-7 min video though. Holy $4!t!! Less talking, more doing!
Technically you should check the meter FIRST on a known good voltage source. Typically a receptacle. To verify the meter is good.
⚡️👍🏻
Everything was great, but only one problem would you say that a male tech will come and talk down to you? That’s not nice why would you say that?
😅because I have women who call me every week telling me how some male tech was super condescending to them and hoping I’ll be different. I’m not saying it WILL happen. I’m saying it DOES happen. And one way to avoid it? Learning how to test your AC yourself.
This would’ve been a lot better video if you just went and talk so damn much and just get to the point!
This would have been a better comment if I could understand what you were saying ❤️
@rvrepairwomen. Perfect response to someone trying to replicate being a classless JERK. 👏👏👏
too long winded
Than don't listen. Detail are appreciated, by some of us.
I appreciate your help, but please try to get to the point much quicker please.
I'm not disrespecting you or your work, but you should come to the substance / point much quicker.
Just my humble opinion.
lol I have videos in a bunch of different styles. Some people want more talking, some people want less. To each their own.
You carried on so much that I lost interest. Lose the drama, please.
Most of the time it can be your start capacitor and run capacitors that go bad its a common issue. They are $13 for each one the start capacitor is back and the run capacitor is silver
How does one test the capacitors and where can we purchase them, if needed? We just replaced our RVP Excelair with their recommended Coleman Mach 8. Our old RVP a/c was shot. This new Coleman Mach 8 now runs, but is just blowing ambient air. Frustrated beyond belief at the lack of instruction provided by RVP, after expending $1,560 plus $179 for shipping. Fortunately our bedroom unit still works, but can't cool enough for the entire 5th wheel, in these current 90-94 degree Louisiana heat waves.
