- *Music starts at 26:13. Watch this video to hear my brother Paul and my thoughts on the classic song "The Little Green Valley" written by Carson Robison in 1928. I was blessed to grow up in a very musical family in the mountains of Appalachia.

Been following for a long while now, and I declare your uploads are like getting a letter from family we haven't seen in a while. Very uplifting but calming as well in these troubling times.
That is so kind-thank you 😀
Wonderful! My family is from rural deep woods Somerset, Bedford County PA. I can truly relate to these videos and my mind drifts too a far better and simpler time. Thank you and God bless!!
I agree.
Love Appalachian Music
Tipper, this is just like going home. Sittin around just reminiscing and hearing cousins and aunts and uncles singing.
What a joy this was. Man, I miss those days.
Marty Robins had some of the greatest songs. He was an all around cowboy.
My mother would tell me that her grandfather would pull out the fiddle and play Welsh folk songs that he knew from Wales.
Thank you again for this beautiful moment.
This brings back so many memories for me. My daddy played the guitar and sang. He mostly liked the Delmore Brothers and the Blue Sky Boys. When his brother would visit from Baltimore, he would bring his guitar with him and we would sit on our porch and sing those old songs.
Such wonderful memories 😀
Can't beat our Appalachian music my friend Thanks for sharing Tipper.
So true Donnie 😀
I miss those mountains so much! My husband used to make sure to take me several times a year 🥹 good memories, I miss him so much, even though I'm right outside Chattanooga no way to go there now, Love y'all ❤️
I'm glad you have those good memories 😀
Me too ❤️
I always thought the spring leaves and buds they glow just a different beautiful shades of green I always think they glow! Spring is my favorite time of year! Fun to watch! 💕💕WV
They are so pretty 😀
Oh my. When I was in elementary school our music teacher brought in her autoharp. It was determined I had an affinity for playing it.
And I played the autoharp when we sang Little Green Valley in music class
That was really great, thanks
Oh how wonderful 😀
I liked Marty Robbins I got to see him at Georgia Mountain fair not long before he died man he put on a great show good singer.
My Dad was preacher in southern West Virginia in the late 50s thru the 60s and 70s. He had 3 sisters who sang for him in revivals and Sunday afternoon on the radio. Sundays was always full of good food and lots of music on the porch, my Grandmother was very spiritual and I can still hear getting happy during the singing and preaching. There all gone now and I sure do miss them, I sometimes get my guitar and sing some of the old songs brings a tear to my eyes knowing kids nowadays will never know that feeling.
Loved that. Makes me want to get out my guitar. I’ve not played in many years.
Love the history talked about today from this song to “the good old days” of sitting around on the porch after supper listening to singing and picking - thank you as always for sharing ♥️
So glad you enjoyed it!
I just love that picture of little bitty Tipper! So petite and sweet.
Reminds me of learning to play guitar at my uncles kitchen table in eastern Nc. We were doing mostly old Merle haggard but this felt like that to me. I’m also impressed he can capo that high up the neck and still play, my hands won’t fit up there lol
My dad was a Marty Robbins fan and I’m guessing he had that record. I don’t exactly remember that song, but once they started singing it sounded familiar. Lovely to hear, thank you!
Thank you Melinda! Marty Robbins was so good!!
loved hearing about the old timers. Love Marty Robbins.
I grew up in “Happy Holler” in South Pittsburg, Tn. I love your videos and enjoy the music so much. LOVE to hear Pap and Paul sing.
Oh I so love seeing Tipper little.
She's right up there not missing a trick.
😀 Thank you
They sound Great! #music
I'm from NH, I definitely miss Mountains. 👋 From VA
Thank you 😀
Little Green Vally, I loved it very much.
When I saw this post, I stopped everything! I think Paul is WONDERFUL!!!! I love his pickin and style and harmony! He looks so much like y'all's Father! Thank you for this! I'd love to see more of him playin and singin with the girls! 🌻💜
I'm so glad you enjoyed it 😀
Paul's a star.
This video is good twice over. The story about The Little Green Valley and the evolution of traditional American 'down home' music in general was a pure joy, as was the performance of The Little Green Valley to close out the video.
Hello Tipper, a very talented family. I grew up playing music with my family and friends. a few years later I played bass guitar in Church for many years. watching this video brings back memories. I like Paul's style of guitar picking, also enjoyed him talking. God bless
Wow, as soon as Paul mentioned Marty Robbins, 'El Paso' started up in my memory. I was such a tiny little girl but my mom would play that 45 record over and over and I'd sit and the whole scene would play out in my little head, with the cowboy in love with twirling Feleena and the bullets flying. I was too young to understand much about love between a man and woman but I knew it could end up badly. LOL
I miss my mama now and the song keeps playing in my head. Thanks, Paul and Tipper. Like it was said in another comment, it was a nice visit today.
It's such a great song!!
I’m 73 yrs old and I grew up on this type of music. I also sang harmony to songs such as Lamp Shining Bright in the Window and In The Garden. Listening to your family play and sing made me shed a tear as my family is air gone now. Love all of your channels. Love Katie and Corey too. God Bless y’all!
Excellent video! Paul was a great guest .... so knowledgeable and well spoken. I hope he's on more often.
I hope so too Bob 😀
I miss Marty Robins, he left this world way to young! I bought a juke box at an auction and had it loaded with all Marty Robins 45’s that I could find along with Hank Williams sr, jeannie C Riley, Dolly Parton etc etc. every time my friends visited I would get all their quarters and hear all my favorite music. Thank you Tipper and Paul, listening to your story I can imagine sitting on the floor barefoot on the porch taking in every word!
What a treasure!!! Thank you so much for sharing the beauty of life in Appalachia!!!!
Your channel is such a blessing of peace and calm and sanity in such turbulent times!!!
That is so kind thank you!
Loved this. Thank you for the concern! Monroe County, Michigan and some of Wayne County is where southerners landed to work in the auto industry. Married into our families.
My dad was a Gene Autry fan. Definitely Western
I love music and I think you know how wonderful it is that you have music in your family. You and I share that Tipper. It's a good thing. Thanks for sharing.
Enjoyed this video chat on the swing with you and Paul! I love the lime color of the budding maple trees in our yard in spring. There is a softer look to spring trees here as well, which I love, too. I miss the kitchen songs with all of you. Hope you can add some of those to the videos, too. Sweet song today!
I know Paul must really miss his daddy and playing music with him. So special
I simply adore your channel. As a girl raised in the E Tenn. Hollers this is Precious
Thank you so much!
Loved this video. Reminds me of my childhood. Hearing your pap and Paul singing was wonderful. What great memories you have to cherish.
ya'll are precious!
Paul, when you mentioned the name of the song and Marty Robbins, I was able to put two and two together before y'all even got to playing. You sure are a wealth of information and have real talent. Also, a Holler is a Holler wherever you find yourself in Appalachia. Ain't no other way around it. God Bless you for popping in on this one and I hope to see you here again real soon.
Oh my goodness! This brought back some precious memories for me. My parents and my mama’s brother and his family used to get together on Friday or Saturday nights for supper and then sit around to play and sing. And, my great uncle would take us with him on Saturday nights to “play music” with a group of friends. He played the guitar and harmonica. There were banjos and mandolins and fiddles. One of my favorites that they played was called “Down Yonder”, and another was “The Maple on the Hill”. I loved the video you shared of Little Green Mountain. I’d not heard that before. ❤️
Just love hearing those beautiful harmonies.
Good stories from you and Paul. I really enjoyed the music video of Pap, Paul and your other relative, sorry I forgot who you said it was, but he did good too. Thank you for sharing!
Loved Marty Robbins, my favorite from him was "Big Iron" the Arizona ranger that took out the bad guy, what a classic. Thanx for sharing, Pap and Paul did a good job on their song, capos at different places for that blended harmony. Credence Clearwater Revival used that same technique on some of their songs. Love the older musicians and their creative ways.😄🎸🎼🎵🎶🎧
Another sweet song with Pap and Paul and family.. I am so glad you all have the videos and recordings with Pap, I can only imagine how you miss him so...Interesting info. from Paul about how Country music used to be referred to as County/Western and why. It brought back memories of my parents referring to it that way.. This was back when I was a kid, through the seventies mostly...I have never been a real fun of Country music much, but do enjoy the bluegrass influence very much.. I remember back in the 80's when Ricky Skaggs swept the country music awards with his bluegrass with Kentucky Thunder, I believe. I also love Alison Krauss and Union Station.. Lastly, I would love to see Paul do another video with himself telling how he started on guitar and has grown in it over the years.. I would imagine Pap was a big influence but would love to hear if he reads music, doesn't read music, and how he learns new licks, etc. Thanks Tipper and Paul for sharing!
Love Love Love those old songs and the harmony!!! Let’s hear some more!
Nobody needed a radio or record player for good music in the Wilson house, for sure.
The Gunfighter Ballads Album by Marty Robins was my Dad’s favorite. A young teenager boy cracked it and took him a few years to find it in an album store to replace it. Lol
I know you cherish the videos with your daddy in them. So special.❤
My daddy would sing and whistle everywhere he’d go! He played the Jews harp, and harmonica! ❤️ I find myself hating tv I’ve always love my music… #Daddysgirl….🥰🙌🏼❤️🙏🏼 on dads death bed, he wanted to go to heaven to be with mom so bad! Us girls there’s 5 of us started singing stroll over heaven with you, his favorite! He came to life long enough to sing a few lines with us, my best friend caught it on her phone 🙌🏼🥰 that was the biggest blessing! I grew up singing with my daddy!!!❤️🙌🏼🥰🙏🏼✝️
Loved listening to Paul and love to hear him sing!! God bless yall.
I just love to hear Pap and Paul sing!! Nothing better!! ♥️🙏🏼♥️
love this
We used to have that same album when I was a kid! Love Marty Robbins!
Loved listening !
This song is just beautiful and hearing you and Paul talk about the little green valley made it even more special
That was a stunning performance. 😍
So comforting. Thanks.
So Interesting!😊Love All the history and Connections.
I agree with "Minuteman63" below in the comments!
Excellent discussion with your brother. Ya'll are both full of information. I absolutely love listening to stories of your past. Love the explanations of all four seasons. I live in middle Tennessee and have that "luxury" of all four seasons and love them all.
Thank you once again Tipper for the lovely video!
Much appreciated!!
What a special treat! How wonderful for you and Paul to share the story, love hearing the two of you bring that family perspective as well as the knowledge and enthusiasm - I hope you can convince Paul to come on and tell these stories, share his musical knowledge again! Have followed the blog before this for many years, I remember when the music played along the side of the blog page! Thank you for all you (and the whole family!) do ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Really enjoyed this video
I enjoyed this so much, and the performing of "THE LITTLE GREEN VALLEY" was awesome and lovely! God bless, Charles
I'm a new subscriber so I'm gonna assume I'm not the only person to say this, but I think it would be awesome to sit there and just listen to you and Paul talk about music and stuff in person. So this video is the next best thing! Really enjoyed the song too, as it was new to me. Seeing them playing takes me back to being a kid with my grandma's family-we didn't have too many pickers, but we sang on the front porch all the time.
Welcome and thank you so much!! Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow! Really enjoyed this walk down music lane! You two speak well together! Thank you!
I sure love your channel. Keep up the good work. Takes me back to sitting around the house with my family in the sixties. In Cosby Tennessee
Oh, my! I loved this video! I really liked the way it was filmed because it was like sitting on the porch with you and having a visit. You and your family are so blessed with musical talent and exceptional storytelling. I am so glad to have found your channel. Best wishes from Middle Tennessee.
Thank you so much!
Pap had such a sweet voice.
This was wonderful!!! Thank you for sharing !! God Bless💕
Lovely. Paul has a great voice and nice to see this vid with your Pap. Thank you Tipper.
Very interesting to hear the family anecdotes and hear about these kind of days. Lovely rendition of the song. Paul has such a nice voice.
Love it! Love it! Love it! I am having a wonderful morning, drinking my coffee, looking out at the lush green woods and the holler behind the house, and the birds at the feeder. This video and song were the icing on the cake for my morning. Thank you!! ❤️
I see the girls in both of you. God bless family tradition
It's been a LONG time since I heard anybody your age say "Bobby Bare". I grew up with parents who would never listen to anything but "country western" music and my dad loves Bobby Bare. As a kid, I liked listening to those lyrics and then I'd pepper dad with a bunch of questions about what the singer must've meant, and would he ever get home?! 🤣💓 I recall dad not liking the country stars who were getting into a lot of (what I'll just call) mischief (or let their hair grow long). Course he loves him some Merle (Haggard), Marty Robbins, et al and older I get, the more I do, too. You are SO BLESSED to be so talented and to also be so close and loving a family. THANK YOU for this. I enjoyed it.
This video was such a treat. Thank you so much, for sharing your family’s history and the continuity of such marvellous traditions. Thank you Paul and Tipper! I can listen to, Paul explain the history of the music, all day long and I am not a musician but love music of all sorts!😊🇨🇦
The diversity of your content is wonderful, Tipper, and this one was a real treat. I really enjoyed your conversation with Paul and learning more about this song, which I always associated with Marty Robbins.
I also picked-up on an expression I've heard before, but never was able to pin-point to a particular region. During the conversation, Paul started a sentence with the word "Too", where we would usually use the word "Also,". Is this commonly used in Appalachia, Tipper? I don't think I've heard you or the girls start a sentence with "Too", although I have read it and heard it many times before.
I've never thought about it, but it's certainly common to at least us 😀 Thank you Roland so glad you enjoyed this one 😀
OMG! My Dad had a copy of that Marty Robbins album! I don't remember hearing "The little green valley" though.
This was great ! Such a pleasure listening to paul talk also....I love the green , our green mountains....love the song .....thanks tipper...God bless....🙏❤
Love it, Pap and Paul sound so good together! 💕 Thank Y'all for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it 😀
Love it!
Tipper, I real enjoyed the history you and Paul provided, and it makes the music somehow richer. I love seeing and hearing Pap, he was a very special spirit on this earth.
Legendary musicians, wow!!!
The author of this song came from KS not far from where my G G Grandma Maggie grew up and I remember my grandmother a singing this song. Many of the people in that part of KS came from Kentucky. Do so enjoy your villages and your patterns of speech which were so much like I remember by great great grandma talking.
My, my Tipper you have a wonderful family. I believe Paul is full of knowledge as you are and I love his playing and singing with Katie and Corie and Granny. Granny has a voice that is so pleasing to hear…wondering if she plays an instrument. Love her so much.
Thank you! She’s never played an instrument 😊
Bless you guys for your great talents!
Once, America had a powerful sense of home and comfort in it
What they play on the radio now is not country music. They all sound the same. No distinctive voices like back in the old days. Loved this video. I miss my home of West Virginia. I tried to move back, but just can't make a living there with what I do.
Very very Nice Song and Story!🙂
Glad you enjoyed it!
Miss Tipper, Matt, have a nice evening.
You too! Thank you for watching 😀
This is an awesome discussion. I really can see why you have such a sense of home and place as you say. It reminds me of my
Mom's family when I was younger. They have all passed but of anyone left I seem to be the only one left who appreciates this and longs for it again. I think that's why I appreciate your channel so much. It helps to fill a hole. I wish I could find my way to where you are. To be able to feel the sense of family and neighborsliness and respect for nature, music, story/history and God. What a service you bring to the world. Thank you.
Many thanks, those period singers were great. Top rendition of little green valley. I can see, with "Detroit City" the earn to get back.
What a treasure. This was beautiful.
Really enjoyed that one tipper, paul’s got a very good memory, what a lovely relaxing song, like being in the room with them thanks
O.O Now I have to go dig through the records again . Got that one back there in the stack somewhere .
😀
SOME OF THE BEST MUSIC CAME FROM FRONT PORCH SITTINGS
I agree 😀
Wonderful. Thankyou. 🇬🇧🥰
What an interesting conversation! What a handsome brother! Thanks Tipper for the variety you bring!
I really enjoy hearing the both of y'all talking to us. It's evident that you're brother and sister. It puts a smile on my face, as it reminds me of my sister and I. Especially the part where y'all tell a story and elaborate on it, then bring it back home to the point. 😅 Seeing the three generations together touches at my heart. The music and harmonizing is beautiful. ❤
😀 So glad you enjoyed it
I just love that song, I heard it the first time from Marty robbins
It's such a good one 😀
The history was great, really interesting and engaging. The music was just brilliant. All together a truly wonderful video. Thank You - I don’t thank you enough, and I should - it’s wonderful the way you share your life and, if I may say so, your family with us all on this side of the screen. Much love and blessings.
Just as soon as you spoke about 2 harmony whistling, I searched and found some people doing that. Well, I’ve heard everything now. Lol
Paul did a great job talking about country/western music. Was really interesting. Really appreciated it.
Sorry for the second comment but I listened to the music after hearing you and Paul talk and Pap and Paul sing so beautifully together. And my what talent they have at pickin a guitar. Thoroughly enjoyed the song. My mother loved Marty Robbins. So that brought back some good memories.
I l9ve this , brings back memories of my dad and mother singing wonderful music to us kids. . That was our intertainment, wonderful blessed memories. God bless all you pressleys and Wilson's
That is beautiful. Absolutely beautiful
Well, that sure was a treat. Thanks......................
I like a lot of the music on this channel but I this has been the best performance. Thanks for sharing. What a tune. Great harmony.
