    Love the hornet 2p, got mine a few years ago and it's been thru a lot with me. It's a wonderful double wall tent for the most part - but Word of advice - treat the head end (with the cut-out rainfly part) like a single wall, as that's what it is. Pitch that end well and tight, and don't touch it with your head/pillow/quilt, as your condensation issue will still bite you on a soggy night. Make sure that end of the fly is pitched low enough to cover the screened area, otherwise you'll be wet.
    Also, the bottom is very thin. It'll be ok if you handle with care. I use the Nemo groundsheet for peace of mind, which adds 6 oz, but you don't need to do that. Just be careful with it. I've seen thru hikers use it without any type of ground sheet, so you should be fine.
    Also, face the foot end into the wind. Question though - didn't you review the X-Mid last year sometime? Why not just go with that?

    I feel this so hard. Just bought the Big Agnes Copper Spur one Thursday. By Friday night I’m looking at hot tents for 3 people.
    You just need to be able to have all situations covered.

    Semi-pro tip: at night, I put my chair zero under one of my vestibules down at the leg/foot end to keep dew off of it. Fits perfectly! I also stake out the fly at the head when it might rain to add some protection. love my nemo 2p!!

  • @mary.peacefulhikesn.j.3350

    I have this in 1p and 2p and love it. Had it in NJ/NY/PA rain and snow and no fails!

    In a pinch or on tent platforms, you can use a hiking pole instead of the 2 stakes at the foot to open up the foot end.

    I also looked into his tent and the Dragonfly for an ultra light tent. Ultimately I passed on them and just bought the Tigerwall UL2 with trail weight of 2lbs 4 oz. The interior sidewalls the hornet was the deal breaker it wasn’t as roomy as the Tigerwall. I do own nemo products and they are great gear but since I also the copper spur I went with the tried and true tent.

    i went with big agnes tiger wall over this because it seems the rainfly does not cover the head end of the tent.

    I had one three years ago. I kept it one year. It’s too small. Even though it’s for two I used it for one person with gear inside. I sold it the next year for several reasons. It takes a long time to set it up properly at least a half hour. it needs a perfectly flat ground. And don’t pull on tension cords too tight because it stresses the screen mesh enough to tear holes. It’s too complex for hiking. On the plus side, it’s not too expensive, it stands loosely on its own, it’s light and it’s great with condensation.
    I changed it for a Tarptent Notch that I saw Eric Normark use in all four seasons.

    Yes yes yes got the nemo Dagger Osmo. New patented material is what turned me on to my purchase and the fit. Nemo really hit the mark. Outstanding design. I rock hammocks but this tent is a sound purchase for any terrain. Thanks guys!

    Great tent! My son has one and we use it a lot for our two person trips, including our Ouachita trail thru hike in 2020. Plenty of room for two and what I really like is there is a door and vestibule on both sides, so we each have a place to store our packs and can get out at night to pee without climbing over each other.
    BTW I'm 6'5" and my son Ben is 6'2". We fit great in this tent and I actually have more length than my altaplex.
    (I own an altaplex too for my solo trips, but I love the Nemo).

    only thing I don't like about that tent is it's sags alot when wet. I'd love to see the otmos version in use but I think it's a bit heavier.

      SilNylon has this issue. Many newer tetnts are following the Durston X-Mid way of doing things and are switching to SilPoly.

    You should have held off. The upgrade, the NEMO Hornet OSMO just came out. It's a more water-repellent, durable material. The poles and body also pack down smaller. There's even a 3p version now that's a little over 3 lbs. Both sizes are being sold on eBay right now, brand new for $300 plus tax. I just got the 2p.

  • @johnjlong
    @johnjlong Před 2 lety

    You know, if you sell this Hornet and your original X-Mid, you could buy a new X-Mid 2P Pro (which go on sale again Monday 8/22) for the same price AND you may get less condensation with a larger dyneema tent that has vents at the top but only weighs 20 ounces. Just saying, there may be other options to deal with the condensation, but I certainly understand wanting to have a semi-free standing tent.

  • @THERAPYINU
    @THERAPYINU Před 2 lety

    Chose Big Agnes UL Copper Spur over Nemo Hornet 2P b/c of the Nemo rainfly cut-outs...I just imagined lots of heavy rain splashing up against the cut-out space. The CP is more expensive (but you can get it on sale) and heavier by ounces, but has ridiculous vestibule space and much better, thoughtful interior pockets. I'm 6'2" and love it after 2 years. Otherwise I too love my Nemo sleeping bag and Tensor pad!
