  • My car was overheating with a/c on while driving on the highway... So I did something about it! Inexpensive pusher fans from amazon did the trick.

    I noticed you don't have the factory air diverters underneath. These are very important for the cooling air flow. I'm glad the pushers fixed the problem. Makes sense.

    Hey man, nice video and clean car. One question though, does your car have the chin spoiler under the radiator still? We run a 5.3 swapped '85 with just 2 of the same amazon fans as pullers on a stock 3rd gen radiator and it would overheat until we made a new chin spoiler. Granted we are not running a/c but it is seeing endurance racing track use. Just a thought.

    Noticed in other vids that you don't have the air dam under the core support, I removed it on my 87, it was lowered and that black plastic air dam scraped everywhere and was noisy when it happened. Didn't think much of it but soon after it overheated all the time, took it to the dealer after changing the thermostat, water pump , then the rad in case it was plugged, still overheated, dealer had no idea said maybe head gasket. Back in the 90's we had the players challenge race series and they ran 1le race prepped 3rd gens built specifically for this by gm. Any how at a show and shine I met a guy who raced one and the first thing he asked about my car was if it overheats, stunned I said yes we can't figure it out, he said to put that plastic air dam back on, it was there for a reason. Son of a bitch was right, never overheated again. Just a thought.

    • @lsxmatt
      @lsxmatt  Před 6 lety

      Jason Scott I had the whole assembly on the car, its the piece under the chin spoiler, then it had side pieces and the center section that directs air from the grill straight into the radiator. It helped a little after not having it, but I still needed something extra. I only had overheating with ac on, on very hot days.

    I am about to replace my car's radiator and condenser...so, I'm considering the dual pusher setup. Thanks in advance. Tony from the hot state of Texas.

    • @lsxmatt

      You’ll probably end up blowing a fuse because the circuit can’t handle the load of an extra fan. However you can use the factory fan power wire to trigger the relay, that will turn the fans on when the stock fan comes on. You’ll still need to run dedicated power from the battery to the new fan relay.

      Well I don’t have an ls swap but these cars with the l98 engine over heat al the time. I don’t know or ever see my fans turn on . I changed the relays on firewall by the brake booster and only time I can hear the fan is on sometime it turns on and definitely the a/c one turns on as soon as I turn the a/c on my a/c don’t work . But it’s all there and hooked up . It will boil over in Texas heat after cruising in the high way . And just like you said you would think it should be cooler from all the air it’s getting from going 70 mph . So how do I check if my fans are coming on ?
