Is the architecture industry collapse inevitable? Recently, Business of Architecture director Rion Willard watched a CZcams video, Principles for Dealing with the Changing World Order by author and investor Ray Dalio.
Dalio writes, "I believe the world is changing in big ways that haven’t happened before in our lifetimes but have many times in history, so I knew I needed to study past changes to understand what is happening now and help me to anticipate what is likely to happen."
In the video, Dalio explores what he calls the "Big Cycle" of the rise and decline of nation-states and empires.

Not inevitable but until clients are informed about what architecture actually is, it is a lot more than just building design, clients will ALWAYS choose cheap over good value. The professional bodies MUST educate the general public and persuade governments to make it illegal for the unqualified to design buildings. Until that happens then the profession is at risk. We could always just call ourselves architectural designers, not pay for insurance premiums or registration fees and professional body memberships! But that would rather defeat the purpose of a profession!
