A sweet victory. He was confident all the way until he realized that you were indeed winning after your queens were off the board. I take it that in younger days he was the stronger player who would banter to get in your head. But you got him this game. Seems he really didn't want to lose as he asked twice for a draw. Glad that you declined the draw - childhood friend or not.

I think he was nerveous. As someone else in the comments with more chess knowledge than I has pointed out, he might have won the g4 battle and the game. Perhaps it was the camera and knowing people generally root for AC or perhaps he tried to play an mind game and lost? Btw, he's not even an investment banker, but a software engineer (someone else mentioned this). Perhaps he was trying to make the content more interesting? I would want to talk with the guy, before I made my mind up about him.

I love how obvious their old friendship is throughout this. I think the people complaining are only seeing things at surface level and can't directly relate from their own experiences. Even as an adult with a professor career, if I meet some childhood friends, I will forever be young and open around them. It never changes with certain friends no matter how life passes.
There are many people, particularly those who have spent much of their waking hours on-line, not engaging in real life interpersonal relationships, for whom such friendships are not understood. In fact it seems that for many observers posting here, an interaction like the one in this video is viewed as somehow negative and even nefarious. I pity such people. They seem to go through life in a kind of terror.

if anyone curious, 10:30 winning move for black is Nxg4.
If pawn takes, Rg3+ eventually wins white's queen.
if Rxe3, Nxe3 and that's also leading to a decisive attack on the king.
Indeed, that pawn to g4 was frankly terrible. White went from more or less equal position to a lost one. But black didn't convert.

The guy seemed 10% amusing and 90% annoying. He'd wear thin fast IRL.
He seems fine for a quick catch-up. It's easy to forget that Anna herself is still very young (in her early 20s) and so many of her male peers she grew up with and around are likely still rounding into shape, maturity-wise. I bet he'll get better as he gets older. He still has that young, hyper bro energy, especially probably being around Anna and knowing her emerging fame.

@@haniigg Are you Nordic or German? In my experience these cultures of people are typically more closed off and don't have the same experience in general of stresslessness and the feeling to be 100% natural around your oldest friends at all times like in North/South America and Asia. It was kind of a shock to me. Anna is half Swedish but she is very well travelled and 'globally raised', so she strays from the mold I'm describing.

His mistake was moving. When he was way ahead she was trapped. Almost all her pieces were in a spot where moving gets them captured. A couple nonsense moves like shifting the king around or moving the pawn one square was the move. Give her a chance to make more mistakes.

Wonderful movie on YT called "Of all time", about a time travel (via train) love story, from about 2000 to 1900 or a bit earlier. A man ends up going back in time to check it out, and meets a lady and her 8 year old daughter. The little girl said something to him, and he said to the little girl, "Boy, you are cocky". The little girl replied,
"I am not cocky. I am confident.". What a wonderful line. :)

Not a great chess player but I really like chess. What I see on this game is how beautiful life is meeting new people and how interesting it is to have a conversation with them.
I see how he could be interested in her but she maybe considered him his nemesis lol. Maybe they became just friends but Anna is beautiful and has a great personality too.
