    I have always enjoyed watching Mr. Underhill and his books and I credit him with doing more to preserve woodworking hand tool use in the general population than any other living individual. Heaven only knows how much money he has saved with his infrequent haircuts. The rumor is that he is planning on closing his school soon and we can only hope that the rumor is false. The young woodworkers of the world need you Roy.

    I have always wished Roy's PBS episodes could be longer than a half hour. This just proves that I was right!

    I propose that Roy Underhill is declared an international world heritage site in 2023.

    Roy Underhill is a US National Treasure. I met him at Colonial Williamsburg, and our conversation was a Teaching Moment. He taught me why we no longer see Saw Pits. It seems that steam powered saws eliminated the need for Saw Pits, so the sawyers cut up their Pits and sold them as Post Holes. Thanks Roy.😬

    I'm not sure this was really Roy Underhill because the fellow is missing Roy's trademark newsboy style cap.

    I grew up watching his show now I’m a Carpenter by day and a woodworker by night I wish he had mentioned if you want to be a woodworker you should become a doctor first so you can afford it.

    Do you ever work half blind dove tails on the box? You showed them on the drawers only.

    Looks like Roy Overhill will be doing The Woodwright's Shop from the Alzheimer's wing of his local rest home whether the cameras are rolling or not, but no interviewer will be able to join in conversation with him.

  • @patriciajrs46
    @patriciajrs46 Před 2 lety

    Why do you put a slide piece as the bottom of the drawer? To me that doesn't make sense.

    • @thedevilinthecircuit1414
      @thedevilinthecircuit1414 Před 10 měsíci +1

      It's because the front, back, and sides of the drawer will move and twist very slightly as temperature and humidity change through the seasons. If the drawer bottom is glued in, it will cause the drawer to 'rack' (go out of plane and/or out of square), and that prevents the drawer from sliding smoothly in and out of the carcase. There needs to be some wiggle room to keep everything lined up and working smoothly. A drawer that takes on a potato-chip shape will lock itself in place.
