R&N 4-6-2 #425 pulls a fall foliage excursion from Port Clinton to Jim Thorpe, PA. Cab ride footage was shot on Sunday October 17th, while trackside footage is from Saturday October 9th, hence the different whistles (Southern Pacific 5-chime and Santa Fe 6-chime). Thanks to Shane, Ryan, and Nate (and my dad) for the awesome cab ride.

Outstanding footage of the excursion and that final parting shot was extremely portrait-esque! Outstanding work, everyone!

@texaswestern70mac The cab ride footage is from the second trip and thats a ATST 6 chime. The trackside is from the first week and that whistle is a Southern Pacific 5 chime.

That deep AT&SF whistle I remember on 2102 in the fall/winter of 1987. Sounds better on 2102 she runs a higher psi than 425. Love the cab footage, please post more?

absolutely fantastic video! one note of correction however, that atsf is a 5 chime passenger whistle. 6 chimes were the more low tone melancholy whistles on the santa fe. unless the atsf 6 chime was on the first day, but the pitch sounds too low.. my guess is day 2 was the atsf 5 chime

@bigjim4life It's the Tamaqua tunnel (North of Tamaqua). Both the White Haven tunnel and the Tamaqua tunnel are very close to the road. You can get to both portals rather easily.

I don't see how he fires that thing with such a short scoop... haha Down South we know it's a lot easier on you (especially your back) if you fire with a scoop that's almost as long as the span of your arms...

@drfunk411 Ha ha, I'll bet they'll let you shovel as much coal as you want. The camera was mounted in the cab, I set it up and then just let it run. I was also holding another camera some of the time. Definitely do a cab ride, it's well worth it - one of the best rides I've ever taken.

This video is awsome! I hate diesel trains but a super huge fan of steam Trains and #421 is one of my favs! What are they gonna do with that chessapeke and ohio train 614 thats covered up 2:00 into the video? It looks awsome! I wish there was a running steam train in alabama. Only ones left are at railroad mueseums and dont run:( I also gotta ask what kind of paint they use and what color? is that the original color they restored it to? Id like to see how they detail or wax it/wash it. GOOD JOB!

How did you get the cab shots so steady? Did you have the cam mounted? Did you run multiple cams? Did They let you blow the whislte and shovel a little bit of coal? I've gotta get one of those cab rides next year.

Ain't no ATSF 6 chime in this video. The whistle at the beginning only seems to be blowing 4 chimes based on a D root note. Definitely not a 6 chime. Could be a ATSF 5 chime but I don't' hear the 5th note. Awesome footage!!
