Can you all please stop acting like trolls while fixing this car up and give F30 328i mad props for being a super underrated car. This one is just really badly neglected and needs some love. My stock 2012 F30 28i can smoke the shit out newer Civic Si's and many other newer cars. You can still tune the heck out of it's ECUs and make so much more power out of it and it's a freaking 14 years old car which is insane. I never tuned mine because of the timing chain issue, so I am here to learn alot from this series as you tackle this project and use it as a guide to make my N20 more reliable and upgrade my interior to what you do. Thanks for picking up this project, looking forward to the series.

Right there with you bro. My 2013 328i breaks necks 😬 I’m heavily modified at this point. But none the less, a 2.0 4 cylinder is blowing by civics and I’m ripping passed 5.0 off the line. Highly underrated car. Super fun and clean

Please do it! So many kids look for high quality videos for these entry level cars like the 328i, 320i, and others alike, so that they can build their first cars, but everyone only do 335i's M3's M4's or 340i's. Plus you would be one of the only ones to make some good content on it. The only other person ive seen do it was Thic whips and it seemed to have worked pretty well for him.

My last car was also a 2013 F30 328i. Bought it with 70k miles on it in 2021. Had the luxury, cold weather, AND technology package in it. It had a HUD and top down 360 view and heated seats front and back. LOVED THAT CAR. But the dreaded timing chain failure struck and destroyed my engine. I scrapped/traded it for a 2021 G20 330i and this car has LESS tech than my 11 year old BMW did.

No N20/N26 has been recorded to my knowledge to break 500whp. A custom Navardi tune with a e85 map, FBO, & Stage 2 Turbo can push 360-380whp. Which is still really impressive for a 4cyl car on stock internals.
Stock Turbo with FBO and a custom tune can push close to 280whp+ and with e85 closer to 300whp. Fun cars to tune and mine has been reliable af.

At 300k miles mine is still trucking along being stage 2 all its life! Never doing the timing chain, Just take care of it

Finally just got my F30 328i back from the shop after they’ve had it for about 3 and a half of the last 3 years and it’s still not working right, went in for a full engine rebuilt at first and needless to say I got scammed, she’s very clapped but looks good, I’m excited to un-clap mine at this point and see what you guys do with yours, slow cars but very fun and good looking
N20/N26 before 2016 have bad timing chain guides and lci 2016+ have updated guides if you are in the market for a f30 n20 you need to find a 2016+. In the video when they rev the car you can hear the timing chain guides going out with that supercharger wine. Also try to find a RWD over Xdrive as 4cyl engines are not naturally balanced unlike the 6 cyl counterparts due to this your front differential has a high chance of going bad in the n20/b48 engines due to the vibrations.
My 2014 F32 (N26) had no issues on my timing chain guide at 135k miles. But I did eventually replace it for a peace of mind when changing the valve cover and going to Stage 2 + FBO. Been such a reliable car for me when you upkeep simple maintenance and don’t neglect it. Currently at 144k miles on original motor and original turbo. Brian from Kies Motorsports also made a video of the known timing chain guide failure by BMW and has mentioned the warranty which is 15yr or 150k miles that would cover the timing chain guide issue at no cost depending on your state and dealer as well.
Here in Brazil, almost all the F30 are with that N20 engine.

@@rexe31397+ years strong of owning my N26 at 144k miles. Been happy and content with it for what I daily drive it for etc. Will get an F82 in the near future but glad this 4 cyl has been reliable to me with original turbo, motor, and no issues with timing chain guide pre 2016 model.

I've owned this same model (SULEV is the n26) for 9 months now and I don't regret it. I bought it at 127k miles, and it currently has 148k and the only three things I needed to fix was
- head gasket
- wastegate arm replacement
- replace sparkplugs
(All was done myself in front of my house on the street. It can be done if you're mechanically inclined.)
I have little to no issues and after a few more maintenance things I'll be adding performance mods. The real reason you have people with these issues is because they change their oil every 10-15k miles as per BMW, but you really should change it every 5k for normal driving and 3k for modded/hard driving. This is a great daily if you take care of it. Great video!
This one is also an N26. Found out after filming haha. But yeah the BMW oil change intervals should be illegal. It's almost as if they want these cars to fail.

I bought a 2007 335i N54 basket case or so the former owner thought. A few oil leak repairs, and maintenance that had not been done ever. I did most of the work myself except the transmission sevice and front main seal. Wish I had done the main myself. Oh and I bought a Launch 2.0 Code reader. Best purchase I ever made for any car. After some love I regularly drive this car 3 hrs round trip. It has 141,000 and runs like a new one. She gives me 20 mpg city and 27-30 mpg on the highway. I have averaged as high as 32. She can also give me 10 mpg depending on how I drive it.

I'm so glad the ownership of my f30 328i was smooth. It was a nice first bmw to get into I went fbo on it and had a stage 2 tune. And I'm sure it was on the edge pushing its limits either way it got me from point A from point B. But onto better things and finally got a f30 340i.
Thanks for making this video and I enjoy watching what you guys do. I'm very new to the BMW family and bought my first one a year ago - 428i Gran Coupe 2016 model. I'd like to know your overall opinion. I drive it every day and would love to change it cosmetically and of course what's under the hood. That process will be a VERY slow one. So, do I have a crapper and what do you recommend I start with to give it a little power? Appreciate your input. Keep the vids coming!
I recommend you stay tuned and watch what we do with this car. That should help give you some inspiration.
Yall should keep the base model bumpers on the car and make it look spicy without dressing it up to look like every other m package f30 out there. Would make for a unique alternative for f30 non m pack owners
328i f30 is legit easy beginner car timing chain is the biggest problem 2016 versions don’t have that problem but easy maintenance 4 cylinder turbo less oil less gas it’s perfect commuter with a little power

I have a 2005 e90 320i and yeah, people say that 4 cylinders are crap but Idc i love the economic Part of it power isn't everything In a car, i like the luxury comfortable ride which I get from mine though when I need to pass someone on a highway it has no trouble doing that so a 4 cylinder is all the power i need not a gas gussler 6 cylinder but everyone's different so there's that

Love my N26! Owned it for 7+ years and no issues from this 4cyl. Been super reliable and original timing chain at 130k miles but replaced it for a peace of mind after going FBO and stage 2 with bootmod3. The n20/n26 platform has been great for my daily. Running strong at 144k miles on original motor and original turbo.
I also love getting over 400 miles on a full tank. Projected 460-480 miles on my range when in eco mode.

Some F30/31 love 🥳 (I've got a 2012 F31 UK)
There are a few guys building this engine right they dowel pin the lover block around the cylinder sleeves so a semi close deck. And upgrade the piston and new Conrod and bearings. The b58 coils and f80 m3 injectors and a water meth kit. That and bolt on’s and upgraded turbo this should be able to hit 450s at the wheels but going manual swap is a must as the zf8hp45 trans is weak and will not handle the torque. FCP euro made a video about making a 328SI they didn’t do a lot but cooling mods and handling basically swapping over f80 parts over and keeping the engine. They failed on the not swapping the oil pump for the updated one. And if your going to do timing chain on that xdrive the whole sub frame has to come out might as well do it and at port injection as these have dirty valves and hot intake temp issues and the balance shaft on the oil pump isn’t as good on the first gen
Engine. You will need an oil baffle if you plan on at all tracking this thing and maybe a custom or second oil pick up tube. I know a lot of work and fab but cylinder four bearing likes to starve itself for oil.
N52 is the 328i to get. Not this crap. smh

Actually, if you own that car with the original timing chain Bmw will replace it for free because of a massive lawsuit. They did this to my uncle’s car and also had to give him a new turbo all for free granted the motor shit itself two months later after all that but then Bmw gave him a new motor.

Excited about literally every video you guys upload, buuuut you already did an F30. I would REALLY love to see an E39 on this channel, some nice 540i 6 speed (totally not biased, as an owner of one..). Honestly those things become super fun with a few mods, the M62 is also a relatively reliable engine (minus the timing chains, but hey, which BMW doesn't have timing chain issues these days lol). Anyways, really hoping for that one day!
