  • democracynow.org - As Bernie Sanders prepares to meet with President Obama, we speak to Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein, who has also been reaching out to the Vermont senator. With Hillary Clinton claiming victory in the Democratic race, Stein is attempting to start a dialogue with the Sanders campaign. In an open letter in April, Stein wrote, "In this hour of unprecedented crisis-with human rights, civilization, and life on the planet teetering on the brink-can we explore an historic collaboration to keep building the revolution beyond the reach of corporate party clutches, where the movement can take root and flourish, in the 2016 election and beyond?" Stein joins us from Albany ahead of this weekend’s New York Green Party convention.

      Yeah and I realistically know they are going to go for Hillary. Nothing has happened that will change their mind and with Clinton's power no indictment will be coming down. They have done everything to screw sanders so why would they now decide to change. They won't.

      As do I. He would not win I don't think, but it would give the Green Party more than 5% of the votes, which would grant them federal funding. That would be HUGE.

      +MrGeno1951 Donald Trump thanks you for your wasted vote which would only insure a Trump presidency. We've been down this road before and you're a fool. Bernie himself said that the reason he promised NOT to run as a third party candidate is because: " I don't want to be responsible for electing some right wing Republican to be president of the United States of America" . So instead, you'll vote for a woman whose name most voters don't even know? Amazing logic.

    • @MrGeno1951
      @MrGeno1951 Před 8 lety +5

      Calm down and mind your manners: smart as you might be, you won't convince us to vote for the genius who gave the Haitians a princely 34 cents an hour wage by calling us "stupid". You allude to Gore I believe- if he had won his own state of Tennessee (not to mention the fiasco in Florida over the vote count) he would have won the presidency. So don't blame people who vote their conscience for a virtuous candidate just because you're terrified of big bad Little Hands. If you want to convince us to agree with you, try being polite instead of Trump-like. All you have managed to do is convince us that there's not much difference between you and Little Hands. But at least you have the comfort of believing that you are smart, just like he does. (By the way, "whose", not "who's", is the possessive form- that's just a little hint to help you with your smarts.)

    • @ymeynot0405
      @ymeynot0405 Před 8 lety

      MrGeno1951
      Please, don't confuse the message with the messenger. Marathonracer might have learned his manners from Trump University, but that doesn't mean that the conclusion of his argument is wrong.
      Yes, if Gore had won Tennessee he couldn't be used as an example.
      Yes, if the SCOTUS hadn't given the election, we couldn't use Gore as an example.
      But also, if Nader hadn't run we couldn't use him as an example.
      Just because there were multiple causes of failure doesn't mean that you don't try to fix at least one of them. Discouraging a third party is the smart thing to do.
      If I was Trump I would be sending money to Sanders trying to get him to run knowing that would insure a win for the Republicans.
      ---
      The Green party needs to focus on congressional races during the midterms to build a coalition and to raise money, issues, and support before trying a presidential run.

    • @MrGeno1951
      @MrGeno1951 Před 8 lety +3

      What argument? Neither of you has made one. You are just repeating a truism ("Discouraging a third party is the smart thing to do.") Smart? You have not begun to prove it. And you have not addressed the issue of virtue in a candidate. Thank you for being a gentleman, though- I am interested in knowing why you would support HRC apart from the lesser of two evils argument. She's terrible and no Progressive.

I do hope that you reconsider what you think we are worth as the citizenry. We are 99% of this nation's people. We are living in an accelerated time for technology in the Wealthiest Nation in the World, by far, in history. So, there is no reason why we shouldn't have the very best benefits as citizens of that same country.There should be more than pipe dreams and catchy phrases like, USA # 1, as the reason to be a proud people, Americans. We should have it better than any other people in this world if we are the people of the largest economy in the world. And there should be no distinction between people, period. So, whatever your Gender, Race, Age, Wealth, Sex-ID & anything else of your private/public life, you should be treated as an equal citizen...in all matters. Period. That should never be someone's pipe dream. That is what it is, a set of goals worthy of attainment. We should want the very best for all people of this great nation, and we should only elect leaders who will vote for things like that each and every day of their elective office. My best to you, Mr. Diggs.

    We all love and respect your honesty and your unshakeable code of conduct - but - Bernie, - I'm afraid you're bringing a knife - to a gunfight.
    If you lose the nomination - please re-think your strategy of endorsing Hillary Clinton !
    I know you keep insisting that you will support the "democratic" party so as not to allow a Trump Presidency - but Bernie that strategy will NO LONGER WORK !!
    Millions of Liberals and Progressives and Independents have already decided - we WILL NOT VOTE for Hillary under any circumstances. (whether you endorse her or not) - so, in your absence, the Trump presidency is a done deal.
    Please heed the kind words of Dr. Jill Stein and the Green Party !!
    Your platform and the Green Party platform are a natural fit and complement each other !
    Dr. Stein has been very gracious and given you the green light to lead a coalition of Real Progressives and Green supporters to take down Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump and the phony establishment created by Corporate America and crooked politicians.
    The time is right - and the time is now - Bernie !!!
    Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are the two most disliked (hated) politicians in American political history. ( They will melt away - like two snowballs in Hell )
    American voters are waiting for someone they believe in - someone who will save them from voting for the lesser of two evils.

      Bernie is doing his thing, you do yours. Did you know for instance that no less than 4 Bernie-crats, as I like to call them (progressive politicians who Bernie supports) have won their own Primaries in the last several days? There was Zephyr Teachout in the 19th Congressional District of New York, who raised more money than any other politician from any of the involved parties, and had average donations of only $50.00 (remind you of anyone?). Kind of shocked everyone (including the very "impartial" DNC) as she blew past the Establishment candidates and won with 30-35% of the vote. And how about two separate politician hopefuls, both named Misty, one in Colorado, and one in Utah, who not only won their Primaries, one for Senate and one for Congress, but shared the distinction of being the first two transgender people to win Primaries at that level. So you see what I'm getting at? Whether Bernie finally gets the nomination or not, and should he fail to get the nomination, whether he decides to endorse or not to endorse, that's all Bernie's stuff. Your stuff (I have to say "yours" and not "ours" at this time because I'm Canadian and we're not having elections just yet) is to get out and get involved at every level possible, getting ourselves, or others who believe in the ideas that Bernie championed, and making sure that those ideas thrive in all the places where they can do the most good. Just like the 4 people I just mentioned. And that's just in the last week. Zephyr Teachout's district is a purple district. Think of that. One of Bernie's believers has a chance at a seat in Congress in a District that is currently undecided. That's what it's all about. Bernie pointed the way. Now it's up to you

There is another movement perform the convention for those interested to send a preemptive message to super delegates #GoGreenJune19 #GoGreen619 set up by #BernieOrBust for anyone willing to back up their pledge with action as long as it will not affect down ticket Berniecrat votes such as the Florida Tim Canova vote to get DebbieWS the heck out of DC! Anyway, whatever people choose to do, the Democratic Party can't be reinforced for this behavior because it's literally fascist and they have blatantly thrown their power in our faces while Hillary cackles knowing we have no power because we don't control the voting machines and her people do. The DNC has even gone so far as having their people cancel Bernie rally's an hour before so that location changes effect turnout because too many people were showing up. You can't change a two party system at the presidential level. Look at what happened with the Tea baggers.
      You need to focus on some smaller states and win the congressional seats until you can build a force in congress to write the laws which then the President can sign.

      There are only two things responsible for a party losing: Fraudulent elections, or themselves.
      Ralph Nader is not responsible for Al Gore's loss. Al Gore is responsible for losing votes to Ralph Nader. Perhaps if the Democratic party wasn't so corrupt, our voter turnout wouldn't be so pathetic and they might win more elections. That is unfortunately not their reason for existing.

    He needs to do this. We need the people to control the DNC and GOP, not the other way around, people should not have to fight to vote in primaries and have their votes undermined by Superdelegates and Winner take all states. They should try to draw us to the primaries, not push us away. And we should control the nominee, not the elites of the party. They might as well throw out the whole primary system and pick the nominees themselves rather than trick us into thinking we have a voice in their parties.

Also there's a lawsuit from expert lawyers to deal with voting fraud who filed a lawsuit for the fraudulent voting activity during this election. Bernie is what the Democratic Party used to be. An FDR Democrat. There has always been people way to the left of people like Bernie, and FDR. Socialists, Communists, which don't' really exist anymore; the early 1900s had a huge leftwing, people who would now be way to the left of Bernie. Dr Stein is just the modern version of that legacy. It's too bad a third party could never win an election, and it's foolish to suggest Bernie run third party. He is just like a loose canon and in a tense and dangerous time like this we need ppl with experience, but is also able to work with others to accomplish it. I get they don't trust her and she is according to a lot of ppl a criminal, coz she used her private server? I do get it's about Benghazi, but isn't that a joint venture? Why only blame her than and why did no one tell her before she send all those emails, that it wasn't save or even legal. But even than, Trump is not the answer and I hope there's still a chance for Bernie Sanders, but he can't stand idely by and devide the country so much, that Trump is even more lightly to get more votes and he may see things different than HRC, but does support the Democratic Party and therefor he may have to give her his endorsement, but certainly not just like that. She may say she won't change any of her policies that are different from Sen. Sanders, but he's not a dumb man, he won't ask his supporters to vote for her if she doesn't meet him halfway. She will have to eventually, or his supporters will really Bust or worse than HRC, thin skinned tirant Trump, who's a kapitalist, why would he give a damn about you all. He lived his whole life as a priviledged man, how can he relate to the masses. I would be careful he doesn't sell your country out or something. Atleast the economy is doing better and will get even better with time, but ppl refused to see what Obama and his Adm. did accomplish, even with all the obstruction. Ppls homes were forclosing when he started and now that same place and their ppl are having more jobs and a better life, but it is a work in.progress, kids need to get better education and also go with the times and there are a lot of jobs in new area's, like technology f.e. so many new jobs will become available if you have the credentials. That's why I love Bernie, he sees who the future is actually for and those are not the fat cats like Trump, but the new generation and they need affordable college and healthcare and getting payed a fair wage and not get left with the mess they have made of this planet by refusing there's any such thing as climate change. We'll see what happens, maybe at the Convention. I do know it ain't over for Sanders yet and some hope HRC gets an inditement, so she can't run, but I doubt it. Trump has still some civil cases against him that even last after the election, but his supporters will even back him if he killed someone on 5th Av. according to him and that says a lot about him and his groupies. This is essentially a very free way to reach out to Bernie supporters. Bernie has made his promise to the Democrats and thus won't run as third party. Stein is not honestly hoping she can have Bernie be the nominee for the Green Party. She's hoping to remind Bernie supporters that should they wish to vote for the policies that Bernie supports, they can always vote Green in the general election. They're essentially marketing themselves as the Bernie Sanders Party that you can vote for in the general election.

I do NOT want our children involved in wars, I do not want our children's futures destroyed because people are focusing on non-issues. I would love a woman president ONE DAY, but today is not that day, and certainly not a corrupt Clinton. We need a candidate who puts AMERICANS first, of all races. I don't buy into the media spin of how "evil and racist" TRump is. NONSENSE. Bernie is out, so Trump is our anti-establishment choice. And I stand with him.

    Jill for president! Bernie for Jill's vice president. Then we have two women running! Jill would destroy Hillary in any debate!

    im a huge Bernie Sanders supporter and im pick up what Jill Stein is putting down! But I feel if Bernie is not nominated and he runs third party that will only hand trump the presidency!!

      But Jill is polling in with only 4% and libertarian party is like at 10%! Dont get me wrong that pretty good numbers for a third party but both of these parties take away from Clinton! Also its going to be very hard for one of them to win a majority of electoral college votes, so even if it does go to congress to decide(which are republicans) they will either pick trump or Hillary still!
