Tom your genius. I like how you used all the Microsoft transfer from XP to Microsoft's seven software that's already out there. A lot of people don't know about that and it makes it a lot easier to do the upgrade

    1. The customer will have to purchase a full retail copy of Windows 7 and perform a clean installation on their computer.
    2. The customer must revert back to their previous operating system (i.e. XP or Vista) then purchase the appropriate upgrade version for Windows 7..."

@masonstutorials no, just boot from the disk, goto custom install, delete partitions, make a new one, or just install to the whole hard drive.
The backing up is only recommended if you have files you want to keep, such as pictures etc etc.

the best way to do dis is to make partitions on your computer, resize your C drive and make new partitions and backup your files there..or if you dont want to create new partition..there is also another way without having to get an external hard disk..in win 7 install, when it asks wich partition to install to,Choose C,or the drive where xp is installed, after installation,go to C/the drive where u install win7,u will find all ur files in a folder called windows.old
    HAVE FUN WITH WINDOWS 7

I installed Windows 7 on a partition on my C drive (the partition was called the K drive). I had a device driver issue with my video card driver but now it's fixed. How to fix device driver issues: go to the driver manufacturer's website and download the correct driver. If you clean install windows over another version of windows, write down the type of driver so you can remember.

This video was made 5 years ago. I could never recommend upgrading from XP to 7 using the same hardware. If you have a Pentium 4 with 1GB of RAM and your computer is slow running XP you will become suicidal with 7 on that same hardware. It is better to buy a new computer with 7 pre-installed.

as long as ur computer is capable of taking the 64-bit then it doesnt matter if ur goin from 32-bit to 64-bit OS. if ur having trouble installing it from within windows just boot from the disc instead.
Also if ur using the 64-bit make sure ur computer has the specifications to take it. the 32-bit system requirements are lower. 64-bit requires much more RAM

On my tower that I was hoping to upgrade I have already had one configuration with a dual boot Win XP/Win 7 but on this old tower having it dual boot eats a lot of Hard drive space,
I have 2 Seagate 300GB 10,000 rpm drives and 1 Fujitsu 147GB 10,000 rpm drive, SCSI ultra 320 I am going to replace the Fujitsu drive with a 3rd Seagate Cheetah.
I was hoping for an old fashion upgrade where you stick the new os in the drive and it just upgrades.
The problem is I installed a 2 port USB 3.0 card, it works just fine in XP with the driver it came with, it will not work with Windows 7, I downloaded from the OEM site the Win 7 driver, installed it, and still no USB 3.0 in Win 7.
That was why I was hoping to be able to do an upgrade hoping it would retain the win XP driver but from the first few minutes of your explanation, it appears that the drivers might be changed anyway.

  • @Onirayushizobura

No. Burning CDs just has to do with your laser, which is part of your hardware. All you should have to do is find a program that allows you to burn CDs and DVDs after you install Windows 7.

    @Microtardz Před 13 lety

@XxTaylorHD Thats simple, but it depends on your mother board. You may have to press a key anywhere from del-f2-f8-f5 maybe even the end key, just depends. After you get into the bios you go over to boot menu, set it to your DVD drive as first, insert cd, restart, press a key when it tells you to, and WALAH, done. You may have to go back into the bios to make HDD boot first again later but eh.

+ pay exessivly for new hardware
+ Looking for an alternative to windows software you had (windows 7 supports XP apps)
and really, its not as time consuming as cnet makes it.
    - Backup
    - Install
    - move stuff back in
would be same if you got the mac, but also the headaches i mentioned above

if u clean install it wil completely erase ur hard drive. It doesnt remove ur ability to burn CD's/DVD's. You have that ability because you have a CD/DVD RW Drive. You will however need to install the application to burn data again such as nero etc.
Sometimes however there are driver issues. If that is the case you just update the driver
