My husband and I got backlash just this weekend from his siblings who are all gay. Even as far as getting kicked out of a birthday party and told to not come back until he can “accept” his siblings all being gay. He’s never really agreed with same sex attraction, but never loved his siblings less. Just won’t say much because he’s usually ganged up on for “not being supportive”. Most people looking for acceptance are basically asking you to wave a pride flag and want to have you see them making out with each other. Not being outspoken ironically makes them very angry. Coming from people who want acceptance, they’re not very accepting when your opinion and feelings doesn’t align with what they want. Sure I’d love for my husband to be okay with them but he’s still entitled to how he feels. They just want everyone to agree with them and if you don’t, you’re hated.

I go to a progressive school (Endicott College) and it’s just embarrassing to vocalize all of the things we have had to “learn” it has basically been 3 1/2 years of a fuzzy, furry, progressive echo chamber which only teaches their students through a liberal scope. My thesis was purely a statistical analysis. It didn't include theory, just hypothesis testing, stats tests and an analysis of results.

Because getting people of color and women an equal shot at something by dismantling ill perceptions of them based on their identity is what I would fight for. This is also a dismantling of the "normal" person (heterosexual, caucasian, male) being the norm, so identity is not an issue on both sides of the spectrum (beneficial and detrimental) Victimized and marginalized groups become protected classes, because they receive discrimination for their identity. Trying to rid the world of discrimination in a social justice movement is not the same as elevating groups with certain identities over others. You're (3rd person, as in SJWs) trying to level the playing field. If the playing field is better for the general concept of "normal", then someone who isn't "normal" gets the same permissions or rights to operate in society, this isn't valuing someone over the other because of their identity. Its evening the odds. The status quo is someone being favored based on their skin color or gender. Social justice would seek to dismantle the very thing you're accusing social justice of doing.

It’s weird how as different societies have become more and more connected via technologies, instead of it breaking down barriers it has actually made people form even tighter groups. I pretended to be a communist on every essay I wrote in college and that was how I passed. I took a political science course with one of my fraternity brothers and he even wrote an essay in defense of Stalin (just for the grade of course) and he got an A+. The only reason he did it was because he procrastinated 3 days before the essay was due and thought that it would be the easiest way to get a quick A. He was right.

20 years ago when I did my first 2 degrees, I was a grade A student, top marks for critical essays. Recently, I went to do another MA. I Failed most essays because I refused to use the 'theory' and was criticising things like indentity politics, terms like BAME etc. (I am Black). It appeared to me that academia had absolutely gone down the pit. However, Feminism is a legitimate discipline, as are many others, they have been hijacked by identity politics. Personally, I believe it is the defeat of actual Leftwing politics, meaning, class unity and anti-capitalism, that has led us to this nadir.
Interestingly enough these guys are liberals. Yet conservatives like myself have very similar social views with them. This is why a new libertarian or classical liberal movement revamp which i think is kind of happening.

This just goes to show how ridiculous the social science and humanity fields of academia have become. I did my dissertation in psychology using a qualitative methodology. Specifically, I used a generic qualitative approach; which is similar to phenomenology that describes a phenomenon using by analyzing the "lived experiences" of a specific group. I used this type research approach because it was easier than other quantitative research methods. The issue, however, is that the results of qualitative research in most cases cannot to replicated by other researchers. Therefore this type of research fails to meet the standards and rigor of the real research using the scientific method, whereby large samples of participants are used to establish a cause and effect relationship; and that results from one's work should be replicable by others using the same or similar methodologies. Qualitative research methods such as phenomenology, grounded theory, ethnography, and case studies are essentially opinion papers that resemble scientific papers in that they are backed up with other research and participant data; however, the sample sizes are small and are used support the research question. Not often is the author surprised with the results. research is gathered to support the author's theory, which is not how theories should be tested in science. This type of research should therefore not be held to the same standard as research that uses the scientific method.

My husband and I got backlash just this weekend from his siblings who are all gay. Even as far as getting kicked out of a birthday party and told to not come back until he can “accept” his siblings all being gay. He’s never really agreed with same sex attraction, but never loved his siblings less. Just won’t say much because he’s usually ganged up on for “not being supportive”. Most people looking for acceptance are basically asking you to wave a pride flag and want to have you see them making out with each other. Not being outspoken ironically makes them very angry. Coming from people who want acceptance, they’re not very accepting when your opinion and feelings doesn’t align with what they want. Sure I’d love for my husband to be okay with them but he’s still entitled to how he feels. They just want everyone to agree with them and if you don’t, you’re hated.

To me it sounds like as we get further away from this depiction of heterosexual white couple as the normal family, it makes you uncomfortable.

Meritocracy is fine and so is due process. In an ideal world these concepts are fine. To be more clear, what I want to know is how is "Social Justice" destroying these things and what is social justice? The term is used a lot when people refer to an extremist red haired feminist on a college campus, and then conflated with anybody who supports civil rights. So explain to me what YOU mean by it and how the fundamental concept of "social justice" attacks meritocracy, due process, etc.

Victimized and marginalized groups become protected classes, because they receive discrimination for their identity. Trying to rid the world of discrimination in a social justice movement is not the same as elevating groups with certain identities over others.
You're (3rd person, as in SJWs) trying to level the playing field. If the playing field is better for the general concept of "normal", then someone who isn't "normal" gets the same permissions or rights to operate in society, this isn't valuing someone over the other because of their identity. Its evening the odds. The status quo is someone being favored based on their skin color or gender. Social justice would seek to dismantle the very thing you're accusing social justice of doing.

I pretended to be a communist on every essay I wrote in college and that was how I passed. I took a political science course with one of my fraternity brothers and he even wrote an essay in defense of Stalin (just for the grade of course) and he got an A+. The only reason he did it was because he procrastinated 3 days before the essay was due and thought that it would be the easiest way to get a quick A. He was right.

20 years ago when I did my first 2 degrees, I was a grade A student, top marks for critical essays. Recently, I went to do another MA. I Failed most essays because I refused to use the 'theory' and was criticising things like indentity politics, terms like BAME etc. (I am Black). It appeared to me that academia had absolutely gone down the pit. However, Feminism is a legitimate discipline, as are many others, they have been hijacked by identity politics. Personally, I believe it is the defeat of actual Leftwing politics, meaning, class unity and anti-capitalism, that has led us to this nadir.
These guys pantsed academia in front of the entire world. Epic.
Interestingly enough these guys are liberals. Yet conservatives like myself have very similar social views with them. This is why a new libertarian or classical liberal movement revamp which i think is kind of happening.
We have always been similar. Unfortunately, politicians have a history of weaving hateful narratives, often resulting in us seeing strawmen as reality.

People that are a part of the old economic left, like these guys, want nothing to do with the absurdities that "Social Justice" theory and "Feminist" theory have descended into.
The problem is that the NPCs don't think social views exists on a spectrum and that it's only binary (unlike everything else they believe), you either believe 100% like them or you're absolutely the opposite because they can't think for themselves and rationalize everything to fit into the select worldview.
People who identify as liberal and people who identify as conservative actually agree on most issues. It is the Democratic and Republican parties that are always trying to confuse the issues and get us to fight amongst ourselves in order to cover up for the fact that both parties are completely in the pocket of large corporations.

This just goes to show how ridiculous the social science and humanity fields of academia have become. I did my dissertation in psychology using a qualitative methodology. Specifically, I used a generic qualitative approach; which is similar to phenomenology that describes a phenomenon using by analyzing the "lived experiences" of a specific group. I used this type research approach because it was easier than other quantitative research methods. The issue, however, is that the results of qualitative research in most cases cannot to replicated by other researchers. Therefore this type of research fails to meet the standards and rigor of the real research using the scientific method, whereby large samples of participants are used to establish a cause and effect relationship; and that results from one's work should be replicable by others using the same or similar methodologies. Qualitative research methods such as phenomenology, grounded theory, ethnography, and case studies are essentially opinion papers that resemble scientific papers in that they are backed up with other research and participant data; however, the sample sizes are small and are used support the research question. Not often is the author surprised with the results. research is gathered to support the author's theory, which is not how theories should be tested in science. This type of research should therefore not be held to the same standard as research that uses the scientific method.
