    I have been a GM tech for 47 years , you sir are the only tech I have ever seen on You Tube where you loosen the master cylinder cap and explain why , congratulations !!! A tip for removing brake rotors from hubs , take your air chisel and run around the inside of the rotor to break up the rust , rotors fall right off .

      Dodge dually owner for half my life. Over a dozen over the years. Air chisel works great. I've always had helper hop In the truck, start the engine, and turn the wheel left and right. While I hold a short 2x4. Against the frame rails. Even the rustiest rotors come free within only a few turns

    Pro tip: any technicians who spent time at dodge or ford dealerships need to know about RNDH therapeutic videos. Thank you pete, i can now walk out into the world with a renewed will to live.❤❤❤

    Great video, I've done ball joints on my 2014, 3500, the only thing I do different is add anti-seize around the bearing ring, bolts and inside the rotor ring, helps tremendously with getting rotors and bearings back off later.
    Also beating the absolute piss out of a rotor to get it off will damage your bearings and you won't be long before you replace them. Use penetrating fluid and high heat around the edge of the rotor to loosen the rust lock with lighter hammer strikes to help save your bearings.
    430,000 km and counting now, about to change the ball boy joints for the second time, Moog may have a lifetime warranty if you like doing ball joints every 2 years.

    Just had Carli ball joints put in this year on the Ram dually and the local shop owner said his mechanic asked to never bring my truck back in for work since the job whipped up on him pretty bad apparently. The shop owner told him guess you need to find work elsewhere if you can't handle ball joints on dually LOL

    Great video and thank GOD it was my exact same year, model and even color 😂. Gave this first timer confidence to tackle the job for sure. I'm just about to press in my Carli ball joints later today hopefully. I doubt you'll get this comment in time but when you are sliding the axle shaft back inside the passenger side how do you capture the 4WD female splined gear that the locking mechanism slides to lock both shafts together? Its that gear just inside of the oil seal tyat sags down when that passanger axle is pulled. Do you Just remove the 4 bolts On the four-wheel drive actuator and have someone else hold that thing up in place as you slide the axle splines through it? Or are you able to work the angle of the splines on the axle shaft at a downward angle to capture it and bring it back up into position?

    Had to change out 3 sets on my 12' Ram 2500 and helped others do theirs. I don't abuse my vehicles, so you are correct, these Rams def eat ball joints like a Ranger eats ibuprofin (Ranger Candy). It would be nice if the factory would put antisieze on some of these parts, but I know that's a pipe dream. I am about to order a Carli or Thuren rebuildable set, so tired of these Moog's and AAM units. I try to make a habit of changing the u-joints also while it's apart, better than doing double work.

    Is it necessary to pull the hub off? On my Jeep TJ I left the hub Bearings on. I just removed the four bolts that hold the hub assembly and slide the axle out. It looks like that on the Ram. So wouldn't just removing the four hub bolts and sliding the axle work, not having to remove the hub nut?

    • @rednecksdirtyhands
      @rednecksdirtyhands  Před 10 měsíci

      yeah in order to change the ball joints it is necessary to remove the wheel bearing and then the axle shaft so the steering knuckle can be removed...there isn't enough room with the axle in place to undo the upper ball joint nut and then the knuckle has to drop down and it can't drop down with the axle in there. it's a bit of work but it's not too bad to do! cheers 🍻
