    For those of you that are wondering, "Why won't mine come apart like this?" My socket was glued in the middle where the two halves come together. There was also no set screw, the socket threads were glued there as well! I snapped plastic everywhere, unwired the socket and used a rubber fabric to fight the final end of the socket off of the threads. It was a miracle, but I did not break the shade! Off to buy a better socket. What a fight!!! Thank you for this video, it gave me the knowledge of how it should work and the confidence to fight my way through!!

      I’m so glad you said that. Mine was glued too but I didn’t realize and thought I was doing something wrong. I had to use a vise grip to twist it off!

    I had to use channel lock pliers to finally unscrew the base of the light socket off the threaded metal piece. I used needle nose pliers with the protection of a cloth rag to unscrew the threaded metal piece opposite the light socket. Light is now fixed. Thanks for the video.

      My man you just saved me several hours, some property damage, and uncountable frustration. I considered whether these things came out but they didn't budge it all and I didn't want to strip the screw thread. Try to your way and it took me 11 seconds. Thank you so much.

    Very useful. My brass banker's lamp is quite old, and required a little WD40 to get the nuts loose. Fortunately, the threaded pipes holding in the shade also were able to be unscrewed, as the brass would bend sufficiently to remove the old broken shade, but would not bend far quite far enough to add the new shade until I removed one of the threaded holders. Just thought I'd mention that in case others have a similar problem, as I was a bit stuck until I figured that out.

    Great video and helpful especially for the wire side disconnect. Unfortunately our Chinese friends that built mine glued the grommet, washer and sockets on the wire side making the project considerably more time consuming.

    I was able to remove the threaded metal from the end opposite the light bulb. I unscrewed the decorative nut and took that off with the rubber washers. Then I was able to unscrew the threaded piece just with my fingers. This allowed me to get the second end of the new shade in place after following the steps in the video. I then replaced the threaded piece followed by the washers and finally screwed on the decorative nut.

    My desk chair caught the edge of my banker's lamp as I was standing up. I heard a loud crash behind me. As I turned around there was my broken lamp sitting on the arm of my chair with broken pieces on my chair, one large middle piece and small chips on the floor, two pieces still hanging on either side of the lamp, and tiny pieces on the desk. I removed one side of the broken glass but have yet to remove the socket side. Hopefully this video will help. I wonder if the three large pieces can be glued together? Yes, it can. It is super-glued back together again with a couple of missing chips that were vacuumed in the clean up.

      Super glue fixed three largest pieces together with the two end pieces still connected to the ends of the bracket.

      Both screws come out on both sides, you have to take one side out, and screw the other side in.

    I can't find a screw on the "light bulb" side of the lamp. What do I do ?

      @endacottltg3507  Před 9 lety +1

      samuel Hello! Sorry that it has taken us a while to respond! The fact that you are not finding a screw on the light bulb side of the lamp tells us that your socket is adhered by adhesive rather than a set screw. This makes repairing your lamp more challenging, but not impossible. If you simply turn your lamp over so that the base of it is suspended in the air, you should be able to access the terminals on the socket and repair the lamp according to this video. The challenge here is that you must work on the lamp with it upside down rather than right side up. We hope this helps!

    depending on the cost of the glass which i have been quoted between £20 to £30 . i have seen a brand new bankers lamp for sale for £25 its not doing the repair. i would probably end up with the wrong size glass and not be able to do the repair.

    • @endacottltg3507
      @endacottltg3507  Před 9 lety

      Hello Marc!
      We apologize that we are just seeing your comment now. Often times with a Bakelite socket (which is what we are assuming you have) manufacturers will glue the socket into the plastic housing. It is possible to break the socket at the point where it is threaded onto the nipple, and repair your lamp. This does, however, require you to purchase a new socket.
      We hope that this helps!

  • @Baskerville22
    @Baskerville22 Před 5 lety

    No way I can disconnect the leads from the socket...
    The screws you refer to don't exist on my lamp.

  • @donnabrennan-zgoda8414

    Forget me, I'm not playing with sockets and things. I'd end up electrocuting myself or starting a fire when I plugged it in. Toss the lamp. (PS. If you can do this, I'm proud of you !

    I wasn't able to replace this at all. My lamp is not brass and would not bend. I wasted my money on purchasing a replacement shade. I should have just purchased a new lamp.
