I'm glad we have employee rights in Germany. Here, if you finished work for the day, have a free day or are on vacation, you don't have to check your mails at all. You also aren't required to answer calls from your employer in your free time. So if your boss tries to contact you to come to work and fill in for a sick co-worker, you would have the right to ignore any call/email/WhatsApp etc.
That's also the law here in the US (while labor laws vary by state, all of them that I'm aware of have laws about this). Most people either dont know this though or are too afraid of retaliation for standing up for their legal rights, so some bosses and employers will try stuff like this, assuming they can get away with it.
An example to make it a bit clearer: Recently a nurse had sued her employer because they fired her. His work plan had suddenly changed but he didn't look at his phone or mails and went to work when according to his old plan. His employer said he now had missed work since he didn't show up in accordance with the new work plan and fired him. The court ruled in the nurses favour and told the employer that no employee is required to read mails or answer his phone when he is off work. I'm a nurse myself and it is a huge relieve that I don't have to answer my phone etc because I'm often called if a co-worker suddenly calles in sick etc.
I think what makes the difference is not the particular right not to answer calls or read mails in your free time (which a lot of employees do anyway, sadly), but the rights and safeties that German employees (and most European employees) have: with a lot of contracts, you can't just be fired without a reason. Unless you screw up really badly, you can't be fired right at the spot, they have to tell you some time in advance. If you lose your job, you don't lose your health insurance. If you've been employed for a certain amount of time, you qualify for "jobless insurance" for up to 2 years, I think, which is about 60-70% of your last income (I don't remember the exact numbers, it's been a while since I got it). Having the right, technically, not to be on call during your free time isn't worth much if you are afraid of losing your job all the time. I think German rules (albeit imperfect, I decided not to get into the details of where people do fall through the cracks for brevity's sake) make people less afraid.
Absolutely brilliant. The bringing up of his family is just subtlety saying "you need this job or your family is on the street" this video actually made me uncomfortable... well done

This is painfully accurate. I had this exact conversation once. My manager sent me an email while I was recovering from surgery. I got back and she had two weeks to follow up but chose the day after the thing was due to ask if I had gotten the email while I was off during my post-op. This is why I’ve completely rejected corporate America. I’m done doing that BS.
I had a job that was hell every day. Before I started, they said they would train me. They never did, and whenever I did something that wasn’t their way of doing things they’d act as if I should’ve known. They’d tell me I was working too slow when I would get things done faster than others. They also told me “no phones”, but to read my emails even though I didn’t have a desk. The ceo would come in and yell at people for the smallest things. It has put me off of working for others entirely.

The corporate cultural sphere binds mankind's more savage and spontaneous nature in lieu of order and stability, but this binding serves to intensify the chaotic underpinning of our thoughts, driving an overwhelming sense of seething rage.
This is why ladies and gentlemen you tell your boss NO! even if that makes you lose your job. Don't check emails while you're on vacation unless you're the boss of a company because that's not a employee thing to do.
Where I live, by labour laws, employees don't have to check email, calls etc or "stay on top of things" at all during vacation. Your boss has no right to contact you except for some personal emergency. No work disaster, even if you're the only person who can fix it. We have our bureaucratic faults but it's one of the things I appreciate.

The sad thing is these sort of “white collar” jobs are often paying the same or less than “blue collar” jobs in the same area. In cities where there is any kind of competition, they can’t get away with it so easily because people have choices of where they work But when your office is in BF nowhere, employees get trapped. If they have back issues or no technical trades skills, blue collar isn’t an option.

I'm a nurse myself and it is a huge relieve that I don't have to answer my phone etc because I'm often called if a co-worker suddenly calles in sick etc.
I wish I lived in Germany
God this hurts my soul... "It's gonna be a long time before you go on vacation again" it couldn't be any more accurate.
Nah first 30 seconds in and I'm already fighting the urge to leave the video your doing way to well lol.
Absolutely brilliant. The bringing up of his family is just subtlety saying "you need this job or your family is on the street" this video actually made me uncomfortable... well done
You make me wanna simultaneously implode and explode at the same time, so great job! Love the vids!
You are imploding and exploding at the same time all the time, so I guess this video got you to do that

@@ourtube4266 POV: you made a funny observation on a phrase and some main character who thinks "nerd" is still an insult tells you what jokes you can and cant tell
@@Yatagurusu POV: you just made a joke at someone’s expense after they made a joke at someone’s expense and now you’re catching an earful from that person because it’s “an insult” and apparently youre policing what jokes can and can’t be told but the irony of saying that when they’re the only one taking offense to anything being said is lost on them.
@@ourtube4266 POV: youre over-compensating
This is painfully accurate. I had this exact conversation once. My manager sent me an email while I was recovering from surgery. I got back and she had two weeks to follow up but chose the day after the thing was due to ask if I had gotten the email while I was off during my post-op. This is why I’ve completely rejected corporate America. I’m done doing that BS.
When people say rude things to you and then follow it up with: "I'm just bustin' your chops".
more like I’m just insulting you for my own pleasure 🤣
I feel like the opening joke about vacation mode was actually fine, it was what followed that sucked
I do that all the time and I won't stop.
“It’s just a prank bro”
I had a job that was hell every day. Before I started, they said they would train me. They never did, and whenever I did something that wasn’t their way of doing things they’d act as if I should’ve known. They’d tell me I was working too slow when I would get things done faster than others. They also told me “no phones”, but to read my emails even though I didn’t have a desk. The ceo would come in and yell at people for the smallest things. It has put me off of working for others entirely.
oh man being asked to create a summary that's both brief and detailed is too real
The facial expression that he makes at 0:58 is so true and triggering lol
the look of a man whos giddy to give you extra work but knows he cant show his excitement

Oh my god I hate it so much this is amazing
The patronizing statements, the micromanaging, I just want to rip my hair out that seems so overwhelming

You know it’s bad when the guy who wrote a whole rap about being ‘a nice guy’ can’t even stand you
I love the layers you add to these videos, like the fact the guy keeps seeing him in there (meaning he's constantly in there too)
You can see the corporate hatred in his eyes between sentences 😆😆
This is too relatable. Mark probably lives for his weekends.
When he started talking about alcohol I did think, "Wow, what if the guy he's talking to is a recovering alcoholic or has alcohol-related trauma?". THAT'S how good this guy's character work is! I really thought I was talking to an annoying coworker.
How broken is america that you can't talk about things at work without "triggering" something.
@@TheBluePony3 we're talking about alcohol here Karen. It's legal to drink alcohol and it's normal to have a conversation about it. Go see a therapist about your problems instead of trauma dumping on youtube comments.

The redditor characters might want to have a word with you on that 😂
This could not have come at a better time. I was going on an RV trip with my family for a week. I had been looking forward to it for such a long time, and I made sure my boss knew at least three times (she’s prone to seizures and forgetful soo I make sure she knows) and the fourth time it was about four days away and I let her know I wouldn’t be here. She says I should’ve wrote it on the schedule and there’s no way she could’ve known. She asked me to stay back and not go cause she wasn’t sure she could get me covered. So I called everyone I could and got it covered. When I came back it was exactly like this and she made me feel absolutely terrible for going. Then about a week later she goes on a two week trip to visit her dad and claims it’s not a vacation cause she has to take care of her dad. While she was away we had something scheduled I had no clue about cause she never told me NOR did she write it on the schedule. I am dreading her coming back soon.
This is giving me anxiety from all the terrible managers I've had over the years.

Yeesh, at the end of all that I'd just say "No." and go back to work without another word.
No discussing alcohol in the office 😤
This is the most accurate thing I’ve ever watched in my life
This was my experience returning from a two week vacation and EXACTLY why I’ll be submitting my resignation soon cause I’ll be damned
Where you planning on going to? Always wondered how this life can be escaped
@@DeezN1892 I’m going to return to a 100% remote work position to help get my work/life balance back and make it so that there’ll be no issues with me transitioning over into a weekends and evenings only nursing school program. I may not stay in the same field tho and will most likely opt for a less intensive “easier” position with way less stress such as prior authorization for cancer patients vs community health work. The other option I’m looking into is a medical secretary position where I’d work longer shifts set days of the week and can attend a lower cost traditional nursing school program instead.
Why do I feel like this is based on The Slappable Jerk's irl vacation experience?
„I‘ve come in here 3 times and you‘ve been in here 2 times“
Ah yes, Mark is the one slacking here
Even as a blue collar guy I’ve dealt with this. I’ve felt bad for the company officers of middle management. Leave the giant life commitment to those with investments and the uppers
Small company, that’s your fix.
Bro, I don’t know how you do it. This is so spot on. Heart rate went up just listening to this.
I'm getting stressed just by watching this. The memo bit screams "PLEASE MAKE ME MORE MONEY. I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR TIME" and him saying "we pride ourselves in letting our employees take vacations" infuriates me to no end
Of every character you've played, this one makes me the most violent.
0:59 that "no no no" is something my boss does, shuddered at how accurate it was and hate how stuck up he is on rules.
This is horrifyingly accurate. I've had two corporate jobs, and this is painfully accurate for both of them.
for those that may not know, dont ever check your work email the entire vacation, even halfway through it can undo a lot of the benefits of vacation
it’s healthiest to not until the very end/when it’s over i believe
The corporate cultural sphere binds mankind's more savage and spontaneous nature in lieu of order and stability, but this binding serves to intensify the chaotic underpinning of our thoughts, driving an overwhelming sense of seething rage.
This made my skin crawl
Why are you so good at interpreting reality
I knew a guy just like this in a previous job in our office, which was an incredible feat on his part considering we all worked remotely
Gosh these characters are so good my blood boils 😂
Excellent 👏
This is why ladies and gentlemen you tell your boss NO! even if that makes you lose your job. Don't check emails while you're on vacation unless you're the boss of a company because that's not a employee thing to do.
Where I live, by labour laws, employees don't have to check email, calls etc or "stay on top of things" at all during vacation. Your boss has no right to contact you except for some personal emergency. No work disaster, even if you're the only person who can fix it. Companies are expected to have qualified staff as backup, it's on them if they can't organize themselves. If they bother you nonetheless, you're within your rights to essentially tell them to f off. We have our bureaucratic faults but it's one of the things I appreciate.
@@zendakkthen you got me who wants to do work during vacation then take vacations during work 😂😂
I uninstall everything related to my work as soon as I end working on Fridays :)
Yep. If they're that worried about a lawsuit because you come back not having read your emails they can ask you to work from home on your first day or half day back and catch up on email before you do any other work.
@@barneylaurance1865or just have a system in place to inform employees of critical info if they are OOO the day it first goes out. Like schedule the email to send again the day they are supposed to be back to work or something.

Well done
Okay, this is too real. The other ones were uncomfortable, but this crosses a line.
I know these are ironic, and I usually just laugh at your videos and go about my day, but for some reason this one genuinely got under my skin…
If he was a discord moderator, he would’ve put his 2 weeks notice since day one… oh wait he wouldn’t have the job nvm.
This is so spot on. I worked for an insurance company and it was very similar to this. Micro managed to the extreme. The company is everything.

this video's so good, i don't know how i could pissibly make it all the way through it. i might just light myself on fire.

Get called "communists" for doing that. Although that really does make you think
Just like the POV, I checked out of the conversation and started daydreaming because, well...
I'm still vacation mode.
I lived this life as an American and I felt absolutely owned by my job. It's absolutely disgusting. They would call me on my time off, on the weekends, on Friday nights. I felt guilty even having a social life outside of work.

I’m so glad I work blue collar. I can’t imagine having to deal with people like this
The sad thing is these sort of “white collar” jobs are often paying the same or less than “blue collar” jobs in the same area. In cities where there is any kind of competition, they can’t get away with it so easily because people have choices of where they work But when your office is in BF nowhere, employees get trapped. If they have back issues or no technical trades skills, blue collar isn’t an option.
