@@EmpReacts their second best stage show ever. The best was 'In the Name Of' at Legend XX. Legend XX was Su's 20th birthday. In the Name Of was an intro song similar to Babymetal Death. It's on their third album. There is no good video of In the Name Of on CZcams unfortunately. It's blocked.
'Shine' is also an incredible stage show. But very different. It's mellow and just beautiful. 'The One' live at Yokohama 2015 is incredible also. Also 'Tales of the Destinies' live at the Tokyo Dome. All those are pretty blocked on CZcams. You could react to 'The One' maybe. Anything Tokyo Dome is super blocked.

Nice reaction. Nobody is ready for death. Especially not Babymetal Death. Other folks have big sweet 16 birthday parties with friends and family. Su gets sacrificed by Yui and Moa in front of an audience. Babymetal was different from the start. All that and all the song is doing is introducing them. I'm Su-metal, I'm Yuimetal, I'm Moametal. B A B Y M E T A L. Babymetal. Lyrically it doesn't get any easier than that. The Dancing part is another matter. Moa has said all that jumping left her feet hurting. Musically that is really cool with a great tribute to Metallica at the start sounding like their song One. Which is also what Babymetal fans are called the ONE. It turns out 1 is a big number when you factor in the unity of it. Now as heavy as that was Babymetal still finds a way to be Kawaii. Yui and Moa giggling as they put the neck brace on Su. And then Moa fixing her hair because Su has to look good when they are sacrificing her. You know typical Kawaii stuff. That was many years ago now for Su's 16th birthday. Years later they would celebrate the 10 years of Babymetal with an even heavier version of Death. Known as the Death godzilla Shin version or just Shin version for short. You can do a reaction to that version as it is very different from this one. Fair Warning if you turn it up real loud. Death may come for you. lol no not really, I just thought it would be funny to say that. Enjoy the ride through the foxhole and into the Babymetal galaxy of music.

The Fox God has sacrificed a Jpop idol and reborn into a metal goddess queen. We've been blessed by the Fox God -NotACult- 🦊🤘💀
This was exactly 9 years ago when she was celebrating her 16th Birthday right after her b-day, so yesterday she reached 25 yo, she's still a queen, a superlady and a "living legend" in sucha short time and being so young.

Don't forget an amazing human being in general. She's one of the most humble superstars you'll ever meet. She's silly, clumsy, and probably a blast to hang out with. I think all three of the girls are amazing women in general and should be proud of the women they have turned into. I'm going under the assumption a little bit with Yui, but the Yui we all know and love was awesome, and I doubt she's changed much in the time since she's left the group. Plus, considering that Su and Moa have said that they still keep in touch with Yui, I can only ascertain that she's still pretty much the same person, otherwise I feel Su and Moa would probably lose contact with her. At least those are my thoughts lol

Translation of the intro for anyone that is interested:
It is the story that, receiving the legendary neckbrace from the god of Metal,
she abandons being human and shall be reborn as a goddess.
The gene which has been determined from ancient time
is destined to be guided, boarding on the ark of time.

Nothing to see here... just Su-metal celebrating her 16th birthday with her friends and like 9000 of their fans. It looks pretty normal to me. 🤣
Jokes apart, the whole "Legend 1997", held exactly 9 years today, is a huge allegory about BABYMETAL's evolution from a J-pop idol group sub-unit to a legit metal band. And this was the final number which implied the sacrifice of Su as a human and an idol just to reborn as a metal Goddess. See? It's easy. 😁

Great reaction. There is an English translation of the intro video in the description which would have helped a bit (perhaps) with understanding what was happening:

There can't be many bands who would crucify their lead singer on stage to celebrate her 16th birthday (as I said earlier Legend 1997 was the title of the show celebrating her 16th birthday in December 2013).
Basically this show was the final step in BABYMETAL transitioning from Idol group sub-unit (it had this narrative running all the way through and even started with a lip-synced dance remix of their song 'Headbanger') to independent metal band - it was also Su-metal's final step in her transition from J-Pop Idol - she was sacrificing her human existence and life as Suzuka Nakamoto, a J-Pop Idol, to be reborn as Su-metal, a Metal Goddess chosen to lead the Metal Resistance.

    • @Grington300
      @Grington300 Před rokem +3

All they were doing throughout the song was introducing themselves by name and introducing BABYMETAL by name - and 'death' is just the sort of thing you'd expect to be chanted by any self respecting metal band and their audience while the lead singer is crucified.
There were a couple of homages in this performance too. The opening drum riff is an homage to Metallica's 'One' and the statue crumbling at the end pays homage to Metallica's Justice For All tour of 1989 where they also had a statue (Lady Justice) crumble at the end of their shows. The neck brace is a tribute to X Japan drummer/pianist/songwriter/composer Yoshiki who damaged his neck so badly headbanging that he had to wear a neck brace a lot of the time, especially when performing.
On special occasions 'BABYMETAL Death' was used later in the show - it was the finale here at Legend 1997, the show celebrating Su-metal's 16th birthday ... and they only crucify Su on special occasions. So far that has happened 5 times (plus a couple more in the shows at the Budokan they played early last year), the last before those was at Legend S, Baptism XX in December 2017 to help her celebrate her 20th birthday - and that one had extra flames.

    • @Grington300
      @Grington300 Před rokem +3

The Kami Band (pronounced something like Kah-mee). Kami means god or spirit, so they are the gods of guitar bass and drums summoned from the dead to support BABYMETAL in all live shows ... this was the last show where they only played the encores and became the full time support for all live shows from their next big shows at the Budokan in Tokyo in March 2014).
At Legend 1997 they were Mikio Fujioka (RIP January 2018) and Leda Cygnus on guitars, BOH on bass and Hideki Aoyama on drums. They are all male.

    • @Grington300
      @Grington300 Před rokem +3

This one was all about the visuals and the performance. 'BABYMETAL Death' was the first track on the first album and was most often used as the show opener (without the crucifixion) - it is the perfect introduction - that is what the lyrics are:-
"B-A-B-Y-M-E-T-A-L Death Death Death Death Death Death. Su-metal death. Yuimetal death. Moametal death. BABYMETAL death. Death Death Death Death Death Death."
It is a play on words. There is no 'TH' sound in Japanese, so to a Japanese speaker the English word death sounds like desu (the U is silent) spoken with a slight lisp. Desu means "To be - I am - you are - we are - it is" etc

It's also an excellent video to cement the fact that Babymetal is *not* a cult 🤣
Pretty stoked that they're officially back, it's time for the Other One.
I'm not big on the whole backstory/lore stuff myself, I just enjoy the showmanship and the top-tier music, but as has been said the neckbrace is a nod to Yoshiki, X-Japan drummer who had to wear a neckbrace because he actually headbanged too hard and had emergency surgery, he performed in a neckbrace later on. He was actually known to go so hard on the drums that sometimes he'd collapse on stage, talk about dedication.
X-Japan had some really fascinating drama surrounding them and their lead singer i'll not go into, but they are nothing but legendary and so it's no surprise Koba is a fan himself.

A friend of mine with good taste in music asked me if I'd go see them, for free, at the Palladium, back in like 2018. I went, thinking I'd be amused but that they're just a meme band. By the time this song ended, I was like "holy shit this might be the greatest concert I've ever seen."
It was. Saw them for the third time like 2 weeks ago, and took a friend who I used to be in bands with. They're fucking awesome, there's nothing like it in mainstream music, and the show is just so fucking good.
The way I describe them to people now is "what if Sesame Street fucking rocked, and asked Doom Eternal to be a guest?" It's so unique there's just no way to accurately explain what you're seeing.

Happy 25th Birthday 🎉🎊🎈 Birthday to Queen 👸 Su-Metal which falls on the 20th of December 1997.

Legend 1997 Apocalypse is a concert celebrating Su-Metal aka Suzuka Nakamoto 16th Birthday 🎉(Seitansai) which took place in Makuhari Messe in Chiba prefecture.
Metallic Fans will notice the opening riffs which derived from Metallica song "ONE" which pays homage to Metallica.

Death Legend 1999 & 1997 Apocalypse (stylized as LIVE~LEGEND 1999&1997 APOCALYPSE) is the second live video release by the Japanese heavy metal band Babymetal. The album contains live footage of two shows, entitled Legend "1999" and Legend "1997" (named after birth years of the members of Babymetal), performed in Japan in 2013. It was released in 2-disc DVD and Blu-ray formats on October 29, 2014.

    Live: Legend 1999 & 1997 Apocalypse (2014).
Live at Budokan: Red Night & Black Night Apocalypse (2015).
The Destruction Of The Statue is similar to Metallica Justice for All live concert in Mexico City, Mexico 🇲🇽.
The Japanese word "desu" (です) is a copula (= to be). The Eastern Japanese almost drop "u" of this word, so the word "desu/des" sounds like "death". And someone started writing "DEATH" instead of "です" (desu). It makes sense only where the Japanese word "desu" is expected to come. The title "BABYMETAL DEATH" means only "We are BABYMETAL." No relation to the death itself.
I'm not sure of its origin, but I saw long before such a character as a vampire or a death metal singer in a comic and all his "です" (desu) were replaced with "DEATH" to emphasize his character. With such an air, it works well. Without such an air, it probably doesn't work.
There is a genre named "Death Metal". The sound of this tune seems to fall within that genre, and the lyric writer may have put many "DEATH"s to emphasize the Death-Metal-ness. It might be alright to use many "DEATH"s without thinking of death if some of Death Metal bands also chose their style just to differentiate themselves rather than driven by the feeling about death. But I don't know the Death Metal well.
    MAKUHARI MESSE:-
Makuhari Messe (幕張メッセ) is a Japanese convention center outside Tokyo, located in the Mihama-ku ward of Chiba city, in the northwest corner of Chiba prefecture. Designed by Fumihiko Maki, it is accessible by Tokyo's commuter rail system. Makuhari is the name of the area, and Messe is a German language word meaning "trade fair".
    •Owner: Makuhari Messe, Inc.
    •Opened: 9 October 1989.
    •Expanded: October 1997.
•Classroom-style seating: 304 (International Conference Room).
    •Banquet/ballroom: 1,600 (Convention Hall).
•Theatre seating: 7,860 (Makuhari Event Hall).
Makuhari Messe is close to Tokyo Disney Resort in Urayasu, and to Chiba prefecture's black sand beaches. It is accessible from Kaihimmakuhari station on the Keiyō Line of East Japan Railway Company (JR East). The center is the host of the annual Tokyo Auto Salon (modified car show, in January), the biennial Tokyo Motor Show (in October), the annual Tokyo Game Show (video game hardware and software exhibition, in September), the annual Jump Festa (manga, anime, and video game exposition, in December), and the biannual Wonder Festival (toys, scale figures, and garage kits exposition, in February and July). The venue was host to several Nintendo Space World events.
It will be the venue for certain sports during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Everyone does an excellent job explaining what the performance is about. But a little on why the neck brace. The neck brace symbolizes metal music in Japan. The greatest Metal/Rock band you likely never heard of X Japan is where the brace came from. Yoshiki, Founder, Composer, Drums/Piano headbanged so hard in concert he damaged his neck. His doctors required him to wear a neck brace while performing. Hence the brace became a Metal symbol.
Yoshiki knows the girls and was in London when Babymetal became the first Japanese band to play Wembley Arena. X Japan was due to be the first, but they fell apart before they could schedule a concert. Babymetal broke the record for merchandise sold at Wembely!!!
A band to be acknowledged by Yoshiki is a BIG Deal in Japan. Rock/Metal history is Japan is deep with some awesome bands that paved the way for todays bands.

The one thing you’ll need to know about this is the cuteness in how hard they go on this song. No one here is actually saying the word “death”. There is no -th sound in the Japanese language. What their producer told them to do was to say the word “desu” (the u is silent), and hold their tongue between their teeth to get the th sound. But “desu” is already a word, meaning “I am”, as if you are introducing yourself. So in actuality, all that they are doing is introducing themselves, by saying who we are: Su-metal desu = I am Su-Metal. Wash/rinse/repeat for Moa, Yui, and the band. Babymetal desu = we are Babymetal. Nice play on words and marketing, as this is also the first track on the album, plus used to be their opening number on tour (at this particular show, it is their last song, for reasons you see).
Music wise, this is a huge tribute to Metallica, with tributes to the drummer of X Japan as well. The opening riff: straight from One by Metallica. The neck brace: the drummer from X Japan would headband while playing so hard, he injured himself and had to wear a neck brace every time he played. Babymetal took that and ran with it, making it part of their act.
Most people think that the statue breaking is the Virgin Mary. They are wrong. It’s Su Metal, as mentioned in what she is sacrificing. But having the statue break is a tribute again to Metallica. During the ..And Justice For All tour in 1988/1989, they had a statue of Lady Justice (they named her Doris) on stage. At the end of the show, the head fell off. That’s what happened here.
This band goes hard.. oh, and #notacult

You are getting deep into the Foxhole now. After looking at the end of "Legend" 1997" now look at the beginning where they do a dubstep version of Headbanger called "Headbanger Night of 15 Mix". It's arguably even stranger than Babymetal DEATH.
Who doesn't enjoy a bit of theatrical auto da fe? Here BM appropriate the symbolism of Easter to use as part of their own lore and apply it to Su's transformation from a schoolgirl into a metal goddess to save "metal" and avert Doomsday. They have also taken Shinto images of the fox that is associated with Inari so they are borrowing from many traditions.
"Babymetal DEATH" is how BM usually says "hello" and introduces themselves. It's the first song on their first album and has often been used to start a concert. But here it is used as a big messianic, pun of a finale. To English speakers the song seems to be all about death, when in fact it is BM saying who they are and affirming their presence. The lyrics go "Death, Death, Death.. , Su-Metal desu"...etc. The "desu" sounds like "death" to Western ears, but in Japanese it means "to be" - so the words are " Death, Death, Death... I am Su-metal, I am Yuimetal, I am Moametal, We are Babymetal".
This concert, Legend 1997, celebrates Su's 16 birthday and her transition in BM lore from a school girl into a metal goddess. It also is a transformation of BM from an idol group to a metal band as they start with a lip synced, dubstep version of Headbanger and end with this live version of Babymetal DEATH backed by the Kami band. The DNA helix in the intro visuals to this song also appears on Su's stick mic in Headbanger and is an icon of life and transformation. This is reiterated in the use of the Christian iconography of the crucifixion. Death and life exist together.... #notacult.
