I will be doing the 10 day version of this cruise. I'm flying into and staying in Bologna 4 days early, training my way around Italy for those 4 days (iv prepurchased my train tickets. For the day of the cruise Iv got direct train tickets to Ravenna from Bologna. It's an 1hour and 15 min train ride. Then we've got the shuttle from the train station to the cruise port.
My advice for anyone doing this cruise is that folks watch as much content from as many different creators as possible. I learned about Santorini from one creator, the embarkation port from another, and Mykonos from another, and Athens from another.

I learned from your Santorini blog that reservations for a restaurant are a must, and so I'm in the process of researching that now, as there are 2 other ships in port with us that day. I did sign up for a little excursion just to get me off the ship to a tender, and to the top in as little time as possible, with the least amount of hassle.

@cherylw445 I’m so glad! 🙂 the restaurants with views are the ones especially that will need the reservations there’s a ton of places to eat but the ones with views book up the fastest!

We took the 14 nite transatlantic from Ft Lauderdale to Rome on Odyssey of the Seas. The gradual time change allowed no jet lag when we got to the Europe portion of our trip. It was a great relaxing cruise too!

Oh there’s no way we could have done peak season! We can’t stand the crowds, and we would get to cranky in that European summer heat! Cold Canada has made us soft haha! 🤣

Regarding sleeping schedule, to avoid jet lag a day or two before your trip, try to stay awake as much as possible or vice versa that way the ff day your body will be able to adapt the time change. 😊. I used to do this trick whenever I go visit PI due to time/day difference.
We should have definitely tried this! It’s almost like we need to add vacation days just to get used to the time change haha! 🤣

Had to watch, because we did a Med cruise in May 2023. We did a private tour to Krka - it was fabulous! We had a driver and a licensed tour guide who picked us up at the ship. The area had such a horrible week of weather prior to our trip that our cruise port of Ravenna was not even open for us to leave from. When we were going to Split, the organized tours to Krka were all cancelled due to the flooding that had been happening there. Our guide literally found out after he picked us up that we were going to be allowed in to the park (he got on the phone because they were making a last minute decision). It was phenomenal and not very crowded that day since people thought it would be closed. While we walked in the park, the water was up to the boardwalks and the waterfall was so running so strong, that we got wet on that last bridge. On the way back to Split, we stopped at the Fortress of Klis - where the city of Meereen in GoT was filmed, and the views looking down at Split were spectacular! When we got back to Split, we went through Diocletian's Palace with our guide, and learned and saw so much! Some of GoT was filmed there too. Highly recommend a private tour guide!

That’s always rough when the weather has other ideas and impacts excursions.
We are slowly learning that private tours - although more expensive - are generally better worth the extra $$

Finally finished the vlog, it was so good! We are doing Med next year at the very end of August, kinda worried about the crowds and at times even want to cancel lol. Busy is OK. Crazy is NOT. LOL
You’re going to have an amazing time! It will definitely be busy, but as long as you know that going in you can do your best to plan around it and make sure you get places super early before it fills up or gets too hot. 🤍

We burn out ourselves on the day we arrive. Sleep on the plane the best you can. Force your self to stay awake until about 9:pm. You will sleep hard and wake up 90% adjusted.
Yes we are usually good at staying up and adjusting, we tried soooo hard to stay awake when we landed but had a quick accidental nap haha! Next time we know not to lay down, even for a quick second lol! 😂

Sadly they don’t allow us to record in the casino they’ve actually stopped people even on their phones from recording. The only time they allow filming in there is on sea days when it’s closed!

You can also fly in and out of Bologna. I had clients on this ship end of June and they flew home from Bologna. Their transfer was still expensive because RCCL shuttle was sold out but the flight home was a better price.
Yes, we heard that too! I would definitely be interested in flying from there next time because we’ve never been there and it would be fun to spend the extra day exploring a new place!

Ryan: we get to see the world and go to places you may not ally never visit, all in 1 trip plus it’s on a beautiful ship!
Kala: I like that every day you’re somewhere new, if the weather is bad they can usually get around it, and the food is usually really good!
