    Everyone is like "oh my Tb gelding." "My Irish sport." "My thoroughbred mare." And I'm like "my boerperd 14h gelding." He's not a great fancy horse but he jumps like a pro even if he can be a bit lazy. I rescued him from a shelter and he hadn't ever cantered in his life. I taught him everything and even if you get a shelter horse, they are just as great as purebreds!

    Dom! When you rode in Australia, where did you go to give your horses XC training? Now days a lot of pony clubs dont allow you to rent out their course any more, and if they do its insanely expensive. Some PCs have training days but if your horse gets stuck on a jump (usually water jumps) they ask you to move on after 5 minutes which is not too helpful. We actually made a shallow water jump at home but our land is clay based and therefore stepping into the jump is sticky and slippery and just not a good learning experience for beginner horses. Any suggestions?

    I would like to see an 'Along for the Ride' video dedicated to one horse. Like for this new chestnut mare named Revy, you could film how you train her for a week and then just talk about her potential, personality, training methods you want to use, stuff like that. I would really like to see how you bring a horse along over a period of time.

    Wish I could find a barn close enough to me as good as yours, as many barns that I've went to I've worked on walking and trotting, and only one lesson of canter nothing more. I've been doing lessons for over a year now and just want to find a nice barn that I learn at!

    • @toedstool
      @toedstool Před 9 lety

      The easiest thing to do is to find local shows that deal with the discipline you like.(hunter/jumper, eventing, dressage, etc.) A lot of barns bring students, and you can see which barns are available.

    • @bri8482
      @bri8482 Před 9 lety

      I had the same thing happen to me. I have been ridding over 13 years but never found a good enough trainer. They didn't teach me how to ride they thought me how to train the horse, which I mean is good and all but I really wanted to learn how to compete, I went to shows but I never won or placed. Last year my trainer just quit out of nowhere so what I did was go online and search show stables in my area. The closes affordable one I found was over 45 minutes away but I went there and just a few weeks ago I went to my first show in five years and I got fourth in my jumping equitation class out of 12. So my recommendation is instead of looking for Normal barns look for show barns and they will have you cantering in the first lesson.

    Jamie Duggan their reins look "tight" because of the contact. The horses are on the bit, accepting tje contact, the riders are not pulling on the reins. Dom and Jimmie both have exceptional soft, following hands.

    The Zenyatta step! I've never heard it called the Zenyatta step before. My OTTB also does that but I was calling it Zeus' one sided Spanish walk. Why is it that some do that?

    • @bri8482
      @bri8482 Před 9 lety

      It's an anxiety thing. It's like they want to paw but can't because they are cued to move forward. Zennyatta was famous for it because she always did it on the way to the saddling paddock.

    I got an OTTB a few months back and will be coming up on a year with him in a couple months. He will sometimes have these times were he is just fast over jumps. He's a really sweet boy and is usually very good. Is there an exercise you would recommend for a speedy horse? Should I just do a lot of gymnastics with him? Also I do think his balance could use work. I would love to get him do you some cross country but the only thing that comes to my mind when I think of what would happen is sprinting, sliding, falling, foot stuck in jumps, legs broken, vet bill. Anything you can recommend for my horse or am I just nervous and he'll probably do just fine?and if that's the case how do I just chill out? I'm usually up for anything if my instructor says nothing is gonna happen but I do not have an instructor at the moment.

    So, didn't realize this was a problem. Took my horse on a trail ride, she had never seen a ditch. We cross a field and I realize there is a 4ft x 4ft drainage trench through the middle. No problem, just take her down at an angle and let her walk in/out gently. Nope, my horse (that I've never jumped in her life) cleared that thing and then some. I wasn't ready and came completely forward landing with my chest on her neck. Needless to say neither of us are show quality :)

      Riders in America and Canada are mostly taught to half seat, which means that we lean forward and kind of popped up and down out of the saddle, sort of like posting. It keeps you in control and more forward, and it also keeps a lot of horse's move comfortably.
