This is an excellent , I did this on an 807 Diesel and it was almost identical however slightly restricted access as there is a fuel pump on top of alternator. Just one thing to add , if the belt falls off the pulleys when removing the faulty alternator don't worry because there is enough room to retrieve it and reposition it from the engine compartment when alternator out , also you can put it back on the new one when the bolts are very loose so it goes on easier , great guide , took me about 2 hours in total

I have a Ford Focus Mk2 2.0 TDCi. Same engine. It's a lot tighter in the engine bay. And my tensioner bolt size is a 17mm. Had to remove the inside of my wheel arch in order to reach the tensioner. But this video was really helpful with doing this job. Thanks so much

Thank you for the video. I just changed the alternator on my 2013 Citroen C5 2.2 HDI 200 and your video was very helpful.
Very similar process. The fuel filter is different but more-or-less in the same location, so I removed some of the bolts holding up the assembly, and pushed it slightly out of way, along with some pipes that were also in the way. I found that the inner-upper alternator bolt was by far the most difficult bolt to get to, much harder than on the 2.0 judging from your video. Also, I had some issues getting the tensioner to work as turning the bolt on the pulley counter-clockwise just resulted in the bolt coming loose. Perhaps it's a different mechanism on the 2.2L engine? Anyway, I ended up skipping the tensioner completely and just used the alternator as a tensioner instead. Removing the upper bolts and prying down the alternator releases the tension of the belt. Pushing the alternator back in place is harder but perfectly doable for an average guy, as long as you use both hands and the lower bolt hasn't been tightened.

I fully understand mate I just had to change replace alternator on a 2012 citroen ds3 with 1.6ehdi stop start and I had to remove ac pump from the button in order to take out alternator. Space was real issue. The bigger the car the more space you usually get around.

Excellent explanatory video as always. Anyway, I have a query related to my Peugeot 407 / 2.0 hdi 2006 . The car is in excellent condition, has only done 70,000 miles from new, has been regularly serviced by a genuine Peugeot dealer all its life. It has a brand-new heavy-duty battery etc. However very recently I have noticed a very slight sound coming from it, like a kind of swish, swish, swish, or swoosh, swoosh, swoosh is best way to describe it. It is very faint and can only be heard from inside the car with windows shut and in a quiet area, however the strange thing is that when you turn the headlights or sidelights off it disappears, then if you turn them back on it comes back. This is very strange as obviously side, or headlights obviously don't make any noise. I have checked alternator, and there is no drop in voltage, I have plugged my code reader in and there are no fault codes. I am an Auto Electrician / and a mechanic myself and have vast experience of cars especially the 407, however I am baffled as to what could be causing this slight sound, and why it can only be heard when lights are on, but as soon as you turn off lights it stops? Anyone any ideas? thanks.

I wouldnt have a qlue mate. I would suspect a battery and some of electric components but as you mentioned above the battery is new so I am not sure. Maybe its a problem with some relay somethere. Does your car have xenon headlights or normal ones? Also does it have a Headlight washers?

@@Mad4FrenchCars Hi there, thanks for reply. Love your channel, is excellent. No Not battery as it is a brand new huge heavy duty Varta, 990cca. The Cam belt is New, the Serpentine belt is new, have checked the Alternator and it is perfect. I get around 14.6 v consistently, and it only drops to about 14.3v with all electrics on including heated rear window, fan etc. Doesn't have headlight washers or Xenon lights. As I said ,i am an electronics engineer, and Auto electrician, I also used to prepare race and rally cars. I have owned several 407 , 2.0hdis , but have never had this problem on any of them, or on any other car am truly baffled. I don't think it is anything serious, or to worry about at all, I am just curious as to what it could be, as I said, the noise is very faint, and can only be heard from inside the car with windows shut and in a quiet area, then as soon as even the sidelights are switched on you can hear it, switch them off it disappears. It is really curious, and because of my , experience of Auto Electrics, Mechanics etc., I am on a mission to try to find out purely out of professional curiosity, and always like to get to bottom of things and learn more. Anyway, thanks for your reply and keep up the good work on the channel.

Hey Mad4FrenchCars, great video, very easy to follow all the steps...
I would like to ask a question, it's about the pulley to release the belt tension.
on my car it is not releasing when I pull it anti clockwise....is there any tips?
    Thanks!

    • @Mad4FrenchCars
      @Mad4FrenchCars  Před 2 lety +1

Hi mate I would suggest to spray loads of wd 40 on it as they do get stuck sometimes, but sometimes they can be just very strong I have just changed a auxilirity belt on 2.0hdi RCZ and I couldn't turn a pulley from the top as it was too hard to turn so I undone a wheel arch liner and gained a better access to the pulley, then I managed to turn it as I was able to use a socket and release the belt.

I have a less technical problem in trying to replace the coolant antifreeze in my 407 2.0L diesel SW.
The Haynes manual is not clear in description and their two photos of the bleed nipples are hopeless.
In addition, the manual goes on about making an additional header tank to help purge any air pockets.
Are you going to do a video on this at any point in time?
I've abandoned the coolant change for this winter as I don't want to end up with a duff heater.

Hi mate I will be making a video about a key problem. It could be loads of things anything from the battery inside a fob to fob receiver around a steering wheel lock or even bsi. I would check a battery inside your fob to see if it works also sometimes if fob is damaged buttons can be damaged. I would change a fob battery first and take it from there.
