- Micron SW-350 PRO setworks for all sawmills, Wood-Mizer, Norwood, Woodland, Frontier, Hud-son, Cookโs or a DIY bandsaw mill like I have. This video is an in depth look at my Micron pro CNC computer set works.
The SW-350 is a computer with a sensor that controls the height of any power lift sawmill. This computer setworks auto calculates kerf of your cuts, not only does it determine Kerf it also can easily be programmed for lumber cut lists with memory to recall those lumber cut list at any time when milling.
Tell the Micron PRO your cant size and board thickness and it will tell you how many boards you will get including kerf out of your cant.
Push enter and the Micron PRO will auto lower to the first cut.

Mike, no more figuring and just more milling. Just what every Sawer needs.
Mike, just wanted to say thanks for this video and introducing the Micron Pro. I have a 1987 WM LT-40 and I just installed my MP for my mill yesterday. In my view they still need to spend some time with the manuals, as things could be clearer, but they did always respond to my questions, and we got it done. Thanks again and thanks for discount code!!!! Steve
Like others have said, I don't have a mill or the space for one, but I found this video fascinating and it's pretty cool you can set it up on a homemade mill and pretty much get perfection out of it!
I don't have land or a sawmill, but if I did, I would not hesitate to fit one of these on my mill. A little automation goes a LONG way in improving usability, and when you're putting your back to work, that's incredibly important.
I don,t have a mill or ever will but i can feel the satisfaction of producing lovely boards yourself. The mill has evolved a lot ! Thanks for sharing Mike, Paul (UK)
Thank you very much!
Mike Iโve said it before and Iโll say it again. You have one of the best ways of making something that could be sooo complicatedโฆ. Seem so easy. I hate reading instructions. You however have a way of explaining things from a Manuel that are superb. Iโm not even looking for a mill. I just enjoy your videos. And also it was cool you showing the name of the person with the song ๐ต that was playing and to show how to calculate curf!!! Mint โฆ. Mint โฆ great job as always you have awesome projects ๐๐ looks fun and rewarding
Thanks so much ๐
Seeing you entering all those fractions makes me glad we have the metric system over here!
It just takes me back to the sixties before the metric system was introduced in Australia, it made measuring EVERYTHING so simple.
I still see fractions in the metric system. 3mm is just 3/10'ths of a cm in my brain. lol..
Also, fractions are easily converted to our tape measure. How do you measure 4.7625mm on a tape measure?.. Because for me, that's just 3/16'ths of an inch; or 3 little dashes on the tape.
This is awesome! I have a 1987 WM LT40. It's the first year they had hydraulics. So, this would be a great addition to the motorized but manual blade height adjustment. Lots of playing with the switch to get it to land on the dimension I want. Thanks for the GREAT video on this product!!!!
Right on
Thank you. Mine should be here soon. You saved me $93
Right on! My friend Dave and I both own them and really like how well they work, perfect lumber and it really saves time when milling ๐๐
A reasonable price for such a useful tool.
That is pretty awesome you were able to automate your homemade saw mill with the Setworks. I'll likely never have a sawmill of my own though I found the video interesting. Would be interested in an update in how your kei truck camper is holding up too.
Sawmills, minibikes, Kei trucks, welding tips, on and on! Mike you are the Renaissance Man! Thanks for another great video. Great explanations, options, suggestions. I teach at a technical college and youโd be a gem of an instructor!
Man I really appreciate reading your comment! Thanks man ๐
It would be fun to teach at a local college or trade school but unfortunately I donโt have the โ official schoolingโ needed to teach.
I have many other hobbies and skills from carpentry to Pottery, music production to backpacking but they just donโt seem to fit the channel at this point.
Thanks again for checking out my videos!
Have a fantastic weekend ๐๐
What?? Just kidding. That's awesome Mike.Glad you found something to make that so much easier.
Another useful and informative video. Your sawmill video is how i found the channel several years ago.
Awesome, thank you!
I used to work at a sawmill in North Central Idaho, they had a similar system on their head rig. It was more advanced of course, and scanned the log, then displayed yield options from an end view. The operator could play around with it and maximize it per their preference, or if there were particular dimensions being ordered. They actually got a contract with a Japanese company, and once a month we would do a full day run of metric dimension lumber for them.
Very cool, thanks Mike
Mike the grapes are looking good blessings to all
That's seriously cool! I'm going to try to get a mill some time next year, and this is just too cool not to have :)
I subscribed for your shop work vids, but this is quite interesting too. Must be nice to cut your own lumber. Even 2nd grade pine boards are through the roof expensive, forget about looking at hardwood.
Always enjoy saw milling log videos. Thanks Mike.
Thanks for checking out my videos man ๐๐
Nice job of explaining the product. Looks like it makes your job a lot easier.
It does!
Fascinating addition to the mill. I always learn something new ๐๐๐๐๐
I enjoyed the video, I bought the same setworks for my lt15. I have it hooked up, and mikron told me to watch your video to see how to work it..and yes it doesn't look as intimidating to use now...I haven't put my wheelchair motor on yet but now I feel I can figure how to wire it up..thanks for a great video!
Great to hear!
One thing I'd like to add..you can run this in manual mode..
This is great!!! I gotta catch up. Still working on getting my saw powered and rideable like I saw on your old videos!!!!
Right on!
I would love one of these, i live about 300 miles south of the tree line so a 50 year old tree is about the size of your wrist.
Very well explained, nice edition to the sawmill!
Thank you very much!
Thank you Mike. Good food for thought. We bought a Linn Lumber 60" head and built our own hydraulic frame. This would make a great addition to our mill. We also run a smaller Timberking mill. Great information. Thank you!
Right on
Great video and happy to see your channel grow. Awesome.
As usual Great video Mike, thanks for sharing !
That is just what I was looking for ! Thank you!
You are welcome!
Quality video Mike thank you.
Nice machine and capability. Thanks Mike.
Thanks for checking out my video ๐๐
Very cool upgrade for your sawmill. Looks like it will make your workflow more efficient and faster. Enjoyed it!
I think so too!
Nice Mike ! Looks like it does a good job, going high tech!
Haha yes getting a bit high tech for sure ๐
My friend and I just went in on a log truck load of logs so thereโs plenty of milling for us coming soon! ๐
Very cool Thank you. I enjoyed this.
Great video...enjoyed it very much.
Well Done!
Awesome video. It's a bit pricey for me but gives me a lot of ideals for rolling my own. ๐
really cool m8
Nice setup, thanks for making the video. I have a basic set works with hydraulics. This unit should be able to tie into the electrical controller on the hydraulic valve. I may go to this sometime in the future.
Hey bud, that is a nice controller! I wish I could get a setup for a machine tool that didn't use conventional scales. If it read close enough that would be nice! Regular scales are a pain. Anyway thanks for the info bud! Keep up the good job ๐, mt.
Thanks for checking out my new mill video! ๐๐
I`m asking this before the end of the video , can you program the mill to make a cut and return back to make another cut and so on ? So you can program it start it and sit down till it`s done !
This Setworks is for the height control, it doesnโt have anything to do with the forward and reversing of the mill. You are talking about full automation.
Automation is pretty complex and would require a lot of switches and a PLC.
Thanks for checking out my new video ๐
I don't understand this difference. In America, every sawyer has a band saw, but in Finland, everyone has a 1.2 meter rotating blade.
Thank you for making this video. I'm considering buying one so it will help me decide. Question, watching you saw, you seem to be sawing for volume without accounting for the location of the pith, etc. Others say that is important to help the lumber to dry straight. Does your lumber dry straight?
Hey really enjoyed the video actually watch it numerous times. My question can this also control travel and return? Or does it only control cutting head height?
Thanks for checking out my video. This only controls cut height. It basically calculates Kerf throughout the entire log, itโs been really nice to get repeatable cuts and to be able to make an entire cut list for a Cant, Kerf included and the last board always comes out perfect ๐
It's a very informative video. This sawmill looks great. Are you up for a collaboration? I mean the collaboration on chainsaws talking about chainsaw maintenance and repair. Hipa supplies DIY repairers with chainsaw and other small engine parts and we are looking for youtubers to work with to share more tips of repairing to help more DIYers.
thanks for another great and informative video!
does the micro-pro have a pattern up function? eg set the band 1", or other increment, above the pith and have the head raise up to the outside of the log? this would help to center the pith in a board or beam.
also - sawing down with the stack in place can help hold the cant down and reduce thick n thin lumber when there's tension in the log. cheers
Yes
Should change the plasma cutter handle from the handheld version to the tube, vertical type. Puts less strain on the droid and keeps the bundled line out of the mess.
I donโt really feel like spending over a $150 for the machine torch when this plasma lead seems to not be an issue.
Maybe if I had an issue with the Arcdroid I would but itโs never been a problem ๐
Thanks for checking out my video ๐
๐๐๐!
Great video, very informative. How long have you had the Micron setworks on your mill? Have you had any problems with it? What is its accuracy from board to board? Asking because I'm interested in putting it on an older LT40. Talked with Micron and they were very knowledgeable on my mill and which model I needed. Would just like to know its reliability after a few years of operation and availability of repair parts.
I have had one on my mill for abut 8 months and I think it is well worth the money the lumber comes out very accurate and very repeatable it is also very easy to install and easy to operate it definitely increases the productivity of the mill I know this sounds like a commercial but that is because I really like results I get using the setworks by the way my sawmill is the one at the end of the video
โ@@davidhelgeson6997 Thanks for the reply, That's some good looking boards you milled
Hey Mike I ordered the 350 pro for my LT40HD again great video and you saved me $94.00 using your referral. Shipping was very quick and well packaged, unfortunately since ordering I had to have surgery on my arm so a few months away from being able to install and operate the mill.
Mike have you tried doing shou sugi ban process for siding or exterior boards?
No but I will look it up, ๐ I havenโt heard of that before.
Great vid!. Would it be too much trouble for you to send me the digital version of the instruction manual for this controller?
All the info is in the description to contact the company, they are nice and would be happy to send that to you. I donโt work for them, I just made a video about my experience with the setworks ๐
@@Mikefestiva I have contacted the company and they informed me they don't share the instruction manual in digital form.. I don't understand that, but it is what it is. Likely because I haven't bought one, but I will be operating a sawmill with this particular system installed.
what is your zodiac Gemini? seems like your good at everything
Cancer
Great Video Mike. Have you ever considered using a green line laser module ?
I have thought about installing a laser in the past. Definitely would be nice to see if the blade is going to stay in the cut when starting to cut down the Cant. Thanks for checking out my new video ๐๐
@@Mikefestivaโโโ , Thanks for the reply Mike. Thatโs actually our specialty. Most of our clients in the sawmill industry that operate the woodland mill or wood mizer use our green line laser module AGLL2 in a 20mw output power.
@@ApinexCom where do you sell your lasers online at? I would be interested in looking them up.
@@ApinexCom I just looked up the website. Lots of options ๐
@@Mikefestiva , the most popular one is the AGLL2
When ordering it asks the cable length. Assuming these long cables are for a command post. Mounting directly to the carriage would require a shorter cable. Can it be cut down and spliced?
It was many months ago when I mounted mine but I think I just took the extra cable and coiled it up and zip tied it out of the way.
Send an email to the company and ask them any questions, they are really good at getting back to you.
Is this setworks waterproof, my mill is outside all of the time
The one on my mill is also outside going on two years and seems to be holding up fine
Would this work on a circle mill?
This setworks should be able to be adapted to most mills. Do you have an electric motor that controls your board thickness on your circle mill? If not you can still have the setworks tell you how far to move your mill to the next board with manual hand crank. I would recommend emailing the company, they are really good at answering questions and getting right back to you.
hi where can i
buy it ? i need one for my log carriage.
Thereโs info in the videos description to the website for the setworks ๐
No reason your low rated relays couldnโt be used to switch higher rated relays.
Iโm using them that way to control the PWM controller. The setworks has the ability to travel the saw head at fast and slow speed, but I will need to order some 40 amp relays to run the fast speed.
