  • Take a journey with me into the world of incubation and hatching birds of prey.
Today we look at the wonderful world of Little Owls (Athene noctua).
    Adults weigh around 180g.
These chicks hatched at weights between 10g and 12g. They are just tiny. In six weeks they will be fully grown and ready to start trying to fly!
    The incubators I use are:
    Brinsea Raptor Contact Incubator
    Grumbach S84
    Brinsea Mini II

He is a humble and very intelligent man. Yes, many had bad parents, but not every child from a horrific upbringing becomes bad. Some develope compassion beyond the norm.

Sometimes I forget how wonderful humans can be. It’s easy to be angry at the world and humans when it seems like all we do is hurt and destroy, even without meaning to. But then I see things like this. And I thinks it’s so beautiful, that particularly kind humans can build relationships of trust with animals, and feed them, care for them, and help with their babies. It makes me really happy, to see that goodness. Especially here, where it’s done with such respect and kindness and love. Thank you for sharing, it made me smile lots. ❤️

The other part is how it can move peoplr like us... And even more, those like you that can recognize and voice something, that to some may be stating the obvious that people either turn a blind eye to, are unaware of, or simply unable to understand what it is, what it could mean, and how to simple not take it for granted.

Met a falconer recently who does pest control. I work at a hospital and the falconer uses a Harris hawk to scare off blackbirds and pigeons from the buildings. saw the bird but did not get too near as it was all flappy. Probably eats hospital staff in its spare time ;)

I 😍 that the Trust allow natural control methods on the pigeon population. I remember 20 years ago a falconer friend lost contracts in city centres using peregrine as a deterrent (sometimes it would act on its amazing abilities) as some local people complained about having their children exposed to natural hunting behaviours. *sigh*

That’s was so well done. I like the baby owl high chair when feeding and they look like little fluffy puppies when there’re together sleeping. ❤️ take care!

This is the sweetest thing I have ever seen. I raised bronze turkeys many years ago and I wasn’t smart like you. When one hatched and dried off I went in and held it and fed it and then she imprinted on me and would never mate with the rooster turkey. Thank you for sharing this with us.💖

What an incredible video! I knew from documentaries and such that it takes a lot of work to hatch chicks. I love the inspiring music as well. It matches the mood of such a beautiful process. Thank you for giving us a window into the life of these amazing birds
