About the only way you could have been more educational about the trapping and the reasons for it would be to show some sort of charts and graphs while having someone in a white lab coat point to things. Bloody well done Mr Yawt.

All this in the name of: "so we can have more prey animals that we can kill ourselves". Nature was pretty fine by itself before we showed up. Rationalizing any of this based on lies, convenience and preference. This has nothing to do with balance, or with protecting species.

i just started trapping in january. i caught 48 raccoons and 25 opossums between january 14 and march 31. having caught all those guys from this one 40 acre property we live on has caused the coyote numbers to drop, lowered the bob cat numbers also (I didnt catch either of those personally), and not only have a ton of turkeys come back but so have deer. it had been five years since we saw either a deer or turkey. after trapping from january to march we started seeing them again, then I put out two feeders and we have huge numbers of deer and turkey. cant walk in the woods without jumping one now. been sticking a few hogs with my bow too. the massive number of preditors had run everything off. we just want to run off the things that run off the birds and deer. that means tasty dinners like raccoon gumbo, fried opossum, pork tender loin...

Every year since spring of 2018 I’ve live trapped 6-7 raccoons, 3-4 possums which I relocate. They dig holes in the lawns looking for insects and worms guess. I have also caught 3 neighborhood cats every year and just let them go. They run fast when ad and don’t come around for months. Cat kibble, lucky charms and capt’n crunch is my bait of choice. I also see an armadillo at night sometimes but I’ve never caught one. When they run thru bushes they sound like a wild hog.

Yawt Yawt: Thank you for the video. Is that the Marlin Model 60 again?
Raccoons are amazing animals, but they cause so much destruction on my little farm so I work on discouraging them by trapping them.
I watched you set that raccoon trap with both hands and I was jealous. I have never been that strong. A couple of years ago I saw a CZcamsr explaining how to set the DP raccoon trap and he had a bar he used for a helper. Instead of buying the bar I just use a big Craftsman screwdriver. It gives this weak handed trapper the leverage help he needs.
Several years ago I attended a seminar about pest control. One of the presenters worked for the US Wildlife Services. He told us that it is illegal to transport live predators like raccoons and skunks without a special permit from the US Wildlife Services. He said if they are caught live they must be euthanized at the catch location. I didn’t ever find out if that applies to all states or just here where I live.
One of my brothers lives several hours away and he said he has a neighbor that will take any raccoon he traps. The neighbor takes the skins and has them tanned and is in the process of making my brother a raccoon skin cap. I am anxious to see the final result.
Your work is amazing. Keep up the good work and God bless you and yours.

I am not a hunter. Heck, I could not shoot straight even if you paid me, but I respect what you do and how you do it. Plus, you are feeding people who need it with your captures. Keep up the good work David.

I use Body Armor bottles to put molasses in from the big jug. They are sturdy and the lids stay tight, plus the wide mouth is less messy😉. That way I can top the corn or whatever without having to tote the big jug through the brush.

I really appreciate the work you do. It's so different from my own skill set!😅 It seems so nice to be in nature.😊🏞️ Someone told me how dangerous racoons were to her chickens. I had no IDEA, they killed chickens and stole eggs! Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us! Peace! 🙂👋🏽👨🏽‍⚕️

I understand the Raccoon fur is useful as well. I may use these traps on my property too. Thanks
