    Last time I wore a cravat was at the age of 16 .I was wearing a Ben Sherman button down collared shirt circa 1970 ,that was slightly larger than my collar size .I purloined one of my grandfathers paisley silk cravats & tied it & arranged it simple knot fashion & I reckoned it looked a lot more elegant than just an open neck shirt .I have been meaning to acquire a selection of cravats ever since .You have just reminded me how classy & overlooked this type of neck attire is & is well overdue to make a comeback .👍

    I taken a page from your notebook Ash, I wore an ascot for the first time in my life. I was a bit apprehensive at first but decided to go for it. It was such a positive experience with people I encountered I could make this more of a routine for me. I found it extremely comfortable to wear and will be looking forward to my next opportunity to wear one. Many thanks!

    Got my wedding in 2 days and getting ready to wear my first cravat "in anger". I've always hated ties, because I don't like the feel of a fully buttoned up shirt, and am so glad I've recently discovered a cravat!

  • @alamore5084

    Thank you Ash. It was the simple knot which was letting me down. After much faffing around it never stays put. The traditional knot is the way forward!

    Your two cravat videos are fun, spirited and so much fun. I'm glad I found you. I'd been stuck with a fusty-crusty young fellow who thinks he knows it all. I've worn cravats for decades. But I love cravat videos just the same.
    Well I've one minor point which you will love: with a pleated cravat, as with any cravat-tie, the ends are called 'blades'. What fun.
    I do have a suggestion: do not get anything purporting to be Jacquard. That is essentially embroidery if you will, very unsuitable and the threads will go faster than hounds to a hare.
    Loved it and will watch you lots henceforth!

    We are going to a 1940s event tomorrow in Northallerton UK tomorrow.
    My wife suggested I wear my father’s cravat (born 1911, probably wore it in the 1940s!)
    The traditional knot works for me and looks very stylish I think.
    I do feel somewhat like an early James Bond! Maybe Sean Connery? (Not one of those new whipper snappers!)
    Can you get me an Aston Martin DB5 across to me for tomorrow morning?
    Make sure the passenger ejector seat is working in case my wife misbehaves!
    Thanks for the video.

    Great to see some appreciation of the cravat. It's time it came back.
    Recently I partially severed a tendon - foolishly whittling whilst walking; the cravat I was wearing served as a tourniquet and kept blood loss to a minimum until I arrived at A and E.
    So, it looks swell, brings a flash of colour and it could save your life... or at least a finger or two...
    PS. How do you feel about bow ties Ash?

    • @TheChapsGuide
      @TheChapsGuide  Před 3 lety +2

    This video I'm really interested in. I've always wanted to wear a cravat, but lack the confidence as it ( to me) echoes a kind of snobbery or pretentiousness. But, I love the informal refined look they give off. A kind of sophistication without trying too hard. What's your take on these " class" obstacle some of us may have about wearing one.

    • @TheChapsGuide
      @TheChapsGuide  Před 11 měsíci

      Great question. Class seems to have largely disappeared from clothing these days in my opinion. In the 'old days' better quality clothing was out of the reach of the 'lower or working' classes simply due to funds. And hence nice clothing, such as suits, hats and cravats, were seen as the preserve of the wealthy, as they had the money to buy such items - but now, thanks to global markets and cheaper manufacturing (and synthetic materials), we pretty much all have access to swanky items of clothing.
      So if you want to wear a cravat - and why not - go for it!!
