Great video Fred, brought back many happy memories. My grandfather was an engineer on the railways all his working life and he used to build his own steam engines from scratch. Boy oh boy did we have some fun, not to mention a few scary moments LOL. Thanks Fred. Have a great Christmas and take care.

Steam engines and cold weather just sort of go together for making great photos and videos, though it's not exactly the most comfortable for the poor engineman running 'er! These little Wilesco engines are great, they'll run on just a sniff of steam once they're all warmed up, and the build quality is great.
Thanks for sharing, always neat to see content from a fellow steam nut!

I think for the money they are very fair and hard not to start collecting. Of course i would love an engine with real bearings etc but those are serious money and out of my budget.

Absolutely fantastic Fred. You are bringing out the kid in me again. it must be true that there is always that little kid in us that yearns to be in that moment sometimes. It is amazing how much power can be generated with such little water through the use of steam. I can't wait to see your steam tractor. Thanks for sharing this video and I look forward to more in the future. All the best to you my friend. Take good care of yourself.

If you ever get bored with it, you can put it in a model boat. Either Bogey's African Queen or a Tramp Steamer, servos for the throttle and steering, LED's powered by the steam engine. Nothing better in my mind than a lazy winter day at the pond or lake. I bought a $10 electric remote control boat for retrieval when she runs out of fuel, keeps my britches dry :-)

I purchased some camping lighting bricks and they worked well but the flame is rather high and blackens the sides of the boiler. Do you think it would cause damage to the boiler? I suppose the boilers are manufactured to withstand that type of heat and flame? Thanks!

Unfortunately upon this model.. (as they do with most) the gearing is far too low- meaning the engine must be thrashed, to get the lamp to illuminate to a reasonable brightness, which wont be doing the engine any favours at all.
It should be geared like this with a MUCH LARGER pulley in the engine- so it runs at a realistic speed, like this one...
