Vatican Releases New Document on Discerning Supernatural Phenomena | EWTN News Nightly

- The Vatican released a document with new norms regarding cases of reported supernatural phenomena. The norms will come into force on Sunday, the feast of Pentecost. The new document provides updated guidelines for discerning apparitions and other allegedly supernatural phenomena. The prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, presented this document at a news conference in the Holy See's press office. The last time the Vatican's doctrinal office issued norms for evaluating alleged supernatural events was shortly before the death of Pope St. Paul VI in 1978. In the old document, the initial evaluation of alleged apparitions, weeping statues or supposed messages from God, Mary or the saints was entrusted to the local bishop. With the new norms, the local bishops will still play a major role, but the new norms say that the judgment of the bishop is to be submitted to Rome for approval. The new document encourages diocesan bishops to set up an investigative commission if evidence of a supernatural phenomenon seems sufficient. The Dicastery then has to be involved. It was explained clearly. Listen to it again and again till you understand. Trust and be not afraid!
This is much needed. The daily (hardly an exaggeration) "warnings", "admonitions" and outright nonsense that appear even here on You Tube have been a cause for concern. Included in these have been the hijacking of the names of prominent priests and even bishops to lend a false "authenticity" to "celestial messages" that sometimes are only a little removed from lunacy. I especially deplore the ones that ask the reader to TYPE an Amen. The sad thing is that the simple faith and spirituality of devout people is being abused by messages of doom and gloom, causing them worry and fear. This is unholy and possibly sinful. I cannot discern why false prophecies should be propagated so readily and frequently. It is time that the Vatican acted on this!
If you look at how certain false apparition gets a great deal of attention on social media and how there are bishops that will quickly declare phenomenon as supernatural when they are not, this is a long needed update. It's a shame that people don't trust it just because it's coming from Pope Francis' Vatican. It should be more of an upset over what the Vatican as been doing to the contemplative Orders.
Yes, St. John of the Cross, Doctor of the Church, stressed the importance of not being too attached to supernatural phenomenon, as even God-given miracles can have people succumb to vainglory and pride and superstition. Supernatural phenomenon are for strengthening the faith of the weak, not as a sign of favor or holiness. He recommended strongly in letting the Church investigate and vet them.
Because there is still plenty of schizo priests/laity. We had one in Canada recently and he had pleeeenty of followers here and in the US.

Assuming I understand this correctly, I think I actually agree with this decision. Hopefully there will be a significant amount of discernment and a true fear of God when deciding what is true prophesy and what is not. We are clearly warned about this in Scripture.

Am a Soldier, I saw something 3 weeks back when am on midnight sentry after a little rain, I Saw light moving in the clouds, shines to a bush in a distance for like 20 second and then went off, and it went away in the clouds.

Pastoral Considerations:
- Care for the Faithful: Protect people from potential harm or confusion.
- Promote Authentic Devotion: Encourage genuine devotion and pilgrimage sites when appropriate.

Dear @jolindo6724, no one is trying to 'gag' Our Lady or to hide no truth . This decision is absolutely compliant with Scriptures, Catechism, Tradition and Magisterium. It was most needed, especially today with all those so-called revelations sprawled accross CZcams and socials. It looks like hell is the most 'visited' place nowadays. Everyone claims that they had experienced a revelation, and their videos are full of heretic, or at least misleading messages against the Gospel and The Church teachings. The Church is the only one to acknowledge the heavenly nature of private revelations. In approved apparitions, Our Lady always ask the chosen person to fully submit to The Church despite the apparent 'persecution' they will face from her. (OL of Guadalupe, OL of Lourdes, etc.) It's The Church responsibility not to mislead believers by rushing into approval of any so-called apparition. In The Church's eye, all apparitions/revelations are considered fake until their theological content, message, fruits, life testimony of the seer(s), submission to The Church, communion with the Pope, etc. are cheked by The Church and found compliant with The Truth revealed by Our Lord Jesus in the gospels and through Tradition. To date, there are only 13 marial apparitions approved by The Church (out of hundreds, among which certainly true ones).
Also the rise of AI is a concern for discerning the authenticity of an event.

I am an experiencer of the alien abduction phenomenon and other anomalous activities. I believe she came to me as a light form. I watched the two of them fly up the valley. One was more serious like and the other one kinda bounced around casually, like it had a more playful nature. I think I felt her because she stopped mid aur like she hit the brakes and turned towards me, and then turned back and the other one who was ahead of the one that stopped turned back. They faced each other, these bright white orbs, like in serious conversation. They turned towards me, then the one raced off and the one that stopped came towards me. All of a sudden I'm within the light. It's like be I ng within the sun itself. I can't see anything but light when the light compresses into an arm and it pulls the environment back k and ahead of me is a girl laying on something I can't see. I can tell she is on something solid because her light blue gown hangs over and her knees are bent, she's barefoot. All of a sudden she starts sitting up with her back as stiff as a board. Her hair was long and light blonde, with bangs that were cut straight across her high forehead. She looked young, and didn't move or blink. I never understood why it showed me the girl. Was it her in her physical form? She *the light form was very kind, loving. I think one came to me another time too.i woke with it laying on me. The guideline should be the Word of God. Trust no supernatural experiences that do not align with it. The word is clear that Satan transforms into an angel of light and deceives. - Would the Virgin Mary print Her image on a medal or mantel in order to be venerated? I affirm: NO!

There is no pretribulation rapture. Pretribulation is a man-made doctrine, and it is the devil's gospel.
Tribulation is the devil's governing oppression over all those in the world who follow Christ. We are in the world, but not of the world.
John 16:33,KJV "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me(Christ) ye might have peace. In the world ye shall *have tribulation*: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world."
Tribulation means: distress or suffering resulting from *oppression* or persecution, a trying experience, tribulation means trial.*
*Dying to self is dying to what you want= self sacrifice=tribulation*. Doing what Christ wants instead of what you want is worshiping God. Doing what the beast wants is worshipping the beast. To worship the beast, is to worship satan. Surrender is worship. You cannot surrender to Christ and to the beast, it is equal to whoremongering. *Again, surrender is worship*. Surrendering to the beast is technically worshiping satan. It is very serious.
Of course, if you are going with the flow, and going along to get along, you will not experience tribulations.

*Tribulation started in Genesis when Adam forfeited his governance over the world, when he obeyed satan instead of God. Satan instead of man(Adam) has been the governing power over the world's ruling kingdoms( The Ruling Empires) ever since. (Read Genesis, KJV).
Let's learn the identity of the beasts:
From Ancient Babylon, Mede, Persia, Greecia, Ancient Rome, to present day Rome and all her branches, and Mystery Babylon, and all her daughters( the complicit empire/nations of satan's conspir@cy). These were, and are the beasts of Daniel and Revelation. The Beast is a confeder@cy of nations, 7 heads and 10 horns. Of the 7 heads( empires), 5 fell. The Ancient ones fell, all 5 of them. 2 present heads( Empires) remain. The 10 horns are 10 complicit nations who will join forces with the 2 heads( 2 Empires) to strengthen the beast.
It is written that a little horn will come, while emerging 3 horns will be ripped out by the roots. This horn will become the Antichrist.
Let's look at the final Beast power: 2 heads and 8 horns, the final world leader(He) as the 8th horn. Satan will inhabit the body of this man, and rule through him.
Satan rules in the kingdoms of this World.
The kingdoms of the world( the empires) are referred to as beasts, because they are kingdoms without the true God( They are antichrists ). Satan( *The dragon*) is the one who *gives the beasts their power*. Read the Book of Daniel. Daniel interprets Revelation. Read Revelation to understand the end as it relates to the beginning in Genesis. Daniel saw only up to Rome. Rome's Empire fell, but it is back in many ways, through many nations, with the headquarters sitting on 7 hills. You can know which empires are Rome, based on the laws and symbols they use.

What you can be sure about, is that he operates behind the scenes, shadow rulership through his many wealthy and loyal subjects.

Do you see? The devil lies: the power was not given to him freely by God.
God freely gave Adam(man) dominion over the earth, but Adam through his disobedience loses it to satan, when he *chose* to put faith in the devil rather than God.
*Satan( previously known as Lucifer) will continue to rule, though his total ruling power has been forfeited by the sacrificial blood of Christ, and the resurrection of Christ. Satan no longer has power over all souls unless you willingly give satan your soul. But what does it profit you to gain the world, but lose your soul to satan?
Satan and his followers are hellbound. Satan no longer has the key over hell, death and the grave. He cannot hold captive of the souls that belong to Christ.
Christ's Sacrificial Blood forfeited all of satan's powers obtained through his deception of man & woman in the Garden of Eden.

On The Day of Christ: All who are Christ's and are dead will be resurrected, and those in Christ who are still alive until Christ returns will be transformed from mortality to immortality, and rise to the Spiritual( incorruptible bodies)of eternal life and peace, free from suffering, war, and pain. There are no tears, and no need for money in Christ's coming Kingdom, no rich vs poor, no pale skin vs dark skin, no upper-class vs lower-class, no aristocrats vs. peasants, etc. There are no narcissists in Christ's Kingdom. For we are all one in Christ Jesus, and there is no evil, or sin there.

It’s extremely clear for those with comprehension. Nothing can be “Supernatural” as “Supernatural” exists outside the realm of ALL physics not just current physics. If it can be eventually proved by an updated version of physics then it is natural and no longer supernatural. Therefore nothing “Supernatural” will be found. I think the bishop is more qualified to rule on the supernatural incident since he knows the facts first hand on the ground, rather than the vatican which is 3000 miles away. While I understand the prudence for this directive, it also fails to consider that there are many supernatural apparitions that occurred but have not been reported, nor widely recognized.
