  • I compare groups through my Tikka with the action screws torqued down to 65 inch pounds versus 30 inch pounds.

The screws that hold your barreled action in the stock should only have to be snug or hand tight and a certain amount of torque isn't necessarily specified.

I’m glad somebody made a video on this! I’ve owned a few tikkas and I love the rifles but they are very sensitive. My 25-06 t3 hunter is my go to deer rifle. I took the stock off my rifle to lighten the trigger and after I done that i shot groups as big as 6-7 inches at 100 yards. I got so disgusted I had no idea what was going on. I took it to my gun smith and told him what happen. He smiled at me and said here I will fix it. He took a wrench and loosened my action screws and said here shoot it. Thinking I had nothing to lose I did and man was there a difference the group was immediately under moa again. Lots of people get the tikkas and can’t get them to shoot after they take them apart and the action screw are normally the corporate 90 percent of the time.

Yeah, I actually ended up buying a new stock and re-bedding the action--a poorly bedded action was definitely part of the inconsistency here. But I'm also not going to be torquing down my action nearly as hard in the future!

I’ve seen this issue discussed at length from ruger 10/22 owners. It appears there’s no magic number, you just have to find out what is best for your rifle by testing at different torque settings.

Hopefully by now, you've figured out that if your action screw torque has an influence on the accuracy/precision, you have a sick rifle. It needs to be glass bedded to cure it. If you have not figured that out by now, there's not hope... Just a hint..

bro it looks like you shoulda left the teeker alone huh? just kiddin but dang if a rifle is shooting group from 3/4"-1/2" i'd call it good personally. i'm glad i found this vid though as i have a teeker superlite stainless in 7mm rem mag that is very spotty on groups. it will shoot a group of .5" then open up to a touch over an inch when i had it set to 40in/lb torque. well, it got worse when torqued to 45in/lb so i backed off to 35in/lb and groups came back down in size.i thought that with bedding and pillars it didn't matter torque reading as you were sitting on the pillars??

Exactly, if you are sub MOA to start with - you are good. Remember that a deers vitals are a 10 inch target, don’t get caught up with MOA; instead think MOD “minute of deer”.

    What is the factory recommended
    Torque setting? After all, they
Built the rifle. Maybe you could
    Build one from scratch and
    Then experiment with it. Great
    Project. Beats screwing around
    With an already fine firearm.
