    I remember the fandom being so brutal with Cho, but they would always just let it slide that Harry believed that she was being too dramatic for crying when Cedric died. Neither knew how to deal with grief, Harry was like "don't talk, don't feel", and Cho was using Harry like a emotional support toy, my memory isn't the best and I read to much fanfiction, but I believe that Cho wasn't close with any of Cedric's friend, so she saw in Harry the only person who she could talk about all the sad, angry and ugly thoughts she had

    • @BrunaV.
      @BrunaV. Před rokem +222

      I am also incredible biased towards Cho, I relate to her, because when my friend died, I move out from the town I used to live and I lost touch with my others friends, so I had nobody to talk that also knew him. When I told my father what happend he told me that I should focus on praying for his family because they were the ones truly hurt, of course I knew that but he said in a way that was basically shutting me down to be able to talk about my grief with him. I was also told to "move on" by my brother when I told him I wasn't comfortable to talk abot my friend in this drama class assignment that we were doing, that was less than a year later after his death, and to be clear I had "move on", I wasn't crying everyday or stoped to live my life, I just didn't want to talk in front of a whole class about thing I didn't knew how to bring to my actual friends

      Cho wasn't only crying when Cedric died but also frequently when he was mentioned which made Harry uncomfortable. He barely knew him and his death was connected with the memory of Voldemort's return. Memory of Cedric made him relive the worst moments of his life, for Cho who had feelings for Cedric and didn't have such traumatic experiences it was so much different.

      I always hated how many characters would constantly bring up Harry's parents. It showed they didn't see him as an individual, just a vessel to dump their unfinished business with his parents on. Whether they regularly said how much he looked, acted or sounded like them they'd all act like it was out of character when Harry would do something his parents wouldn't, the best examples of this being Sirius and Snape. It was honestly depressing.

    • @alyonaf1054

      @@youdontneedtoknowwhoiam6640 while it is not healthy in such quantities in adulthood, it was comforting AND therapeutic for a boy who had been denied any knowledge about his parents his entire childhood (Dursleys, of course). Not even a picture, I think, he didn't even know what they looked like?..
      Yeah, so initially it was not toxic at all, it was the thing which helped him finally make connection with his roots.
      With Sirius, well, it was a whole different issue, as he wasn't well himself due to circumstances out of his control.
      But I don't think anyone else had some "unfinished business" with Harry's past apart from Sirius though?
      Everybody else was just warm and sympathetic. Lupin, for instance, was mature enough to use this comparison in order to help Harry grow up a little, so this doesn't count.
      The relantionship with Sirius, becoming all the more unhealthy towards his death, were, again, a learning point. But he was the only one who tried to manipulate Harry through grief for his parents.
      I am not sure who else tried to pull these strings? Nothing comes to mind.
      Even Dumbledore, as manipulative as he nowadays believed to be:)), never did this.

      Indeed. This was a revelation for me when I first read it.
      From book 5, chapter 26:
      Hermione glanced over at the back of Cho’s head and sighed. “Oh, Harry,” she said sadly. “Well, I’m sorry, but you were a bit tactless.”
      “Me, tactless?” said Harry, outraged. “One minute we were getting on fine, next minute she was telling me that Roger Davies asked her out, and how she used to go and snog Cedric in that stupid tea shop - how was I supposed to feel about that?”
      “Well, you see,” said Hermione, with the patient air of one explaining that one plus one equals two to an overemotional toddler, “you shouldn’t have told her that you wanted to meet me halfway through your date.”
      “But, but,” spluttered Harry, “but - you told me to meet you at twelve and to bring her along, how was I supposed to do that without telling her - ?”
      “You should have told her differently,” said Hermione, still with that maddeningly patient air. “You should have said it was really annoying, but I’d made you promise to come along to the Three Broomsticks, and you really didn’t want to go, you’d much rather spend the whole day with her, but unfortunately you thought you really ought to meet me and would she please, please come along with you, and hopefully you’d be able to get away more quickly? And it might have been a good idea to mention how ugly you think I am too,” Hermione added as an afterthought.
      “But I don’t think you’re ugly,” said Harry, bemused.
      Hermione laughed.
      “Harry, you’re worse than Ron.... Well, no, you’re not,” she sighed, as Ron himself came stumping into the Hall splattered with mud and looking grumpy. “Look - you upset Cho when you said you were going to meet me, so she tried to make you jealous. It was her way of trying to find out how much you liked her.”
      “Is that what she was doing?” said Harry as Ron dropped onto the bench opposite them and pulled every dish within reach toward himself. “Well, wouldn’t it have been easier if she’d just asked me whether I liked her better than you?”
      “Girls don’t often ask questions like that,” said Hermione.
      “Well, they should!” said Harry forcefully. “Then I could’ve just told her I fancy her, and she wouldn’t have had to get herself all worked up again about Cedric dying!”
      “I’m not saying what she did was sensible,” said Hermione, as Ginny joined them, just as muddy as Ron and looking equally disgruntled. “I’m just trying to make you see how she was feeling at the time.”

    Honestly I think this entire relationship was both them needing something else during their grieving process; Cho was drawn to Harry because she thought he'd understand her and her need to talk about Cedric to someone so she can heal, while Harry was deeply uncomfortable with talking about Cedric and his death. That was not his way of dealing with his grief, and it's what Cho expected of him. Like boy had PTSD over that, no wonder he didn't want to talk-

    • @theWebWizrd
      @theWebWizrd Před rokem +28

      That is not the entire story. They both liked each other from before Cedric died. Cho was the girl Harry got a crush on immediately, she's always referred to as someone Harry finds 'very pretty' in the narration, and she is the girl he thinks of when thinking of who to ask out for the ball. They also had a common interest in quiddich. I think your perspective on Cho's feelings is more on point, though my perspective has always been that she liked Harry too from before.
      Sometimes a crush and someone being pretty just isn't enough to actually get along and understand each other and communicate well.

    • @manzelllyles1804
      @manzelllyles1804 Před rokem +15

      Cedric was a great character, but the worst thing for the Harry/Cho relationship. They had interest in each other early on, but by the time Harry made a move, Cedric had already asked her to dance, and they had their relationship. The difference was their experience with Cedric's death.
      Cho found out of the death of someone she cared about and who she was involved with when she wasn't expecting death. It was a shock to her. With her being a female, emotional, a teenager, and not knowing how to deal with her feelings, she wanted someone to talk to. Her best option (in her eyes) was the guy with Cedric when he died, who just so happens to be the other guy she had feelings for. But she never thought about Harry's relationship to Cedric. They weren't really friends, per se. I feel a friendship could have developed, but at the time of his death, I think they basically had mutual respect for each other as each had helped the other with a Tri-Wizarding task. The event in the maze is what actually pushed them from acquaintances to friendship territory, after which Cedric immediately dies.
      Meanwhile, Harry ACTUALLY WATCHED CEDRIC DIE. Immediately afterward, he is bound, has his arm sliced open, watches Voldemort's return, views the Deatheaters, then BATTLES Voldemort (Voldemort trying to kill him while Harry using stunning spells), then WATCHES CEDRIC RETURN AND TALK TO HIM, then picked up Cedric's dead body to tell everyone what happened. Only no one tells everyone what Harry said, so no one knows what happened to Cedric, and no one believes Harry. He then has to go through ANOTHER school year of people not trusting him and treating him like trash, all while he has PTSD from everything that happened in the graveyard while concentrating on the future and the Voldemort issue no one is talking about. Then, the girl he's been attracted to this whole time finally shows interest in him, and all she wants to do is cry and talk about the second-worst day in his life in agonizing detail. Also, Harry is still a teenage boy. This is his FIRST relationship, and he doesn't understand girls. Hermione is trying to educate him (and Ron) on what Cho is feeling, and Harry is making stupid mistakes those in their first relationship make.
      As much as they liked each other, Cedric was the focal point of their relationship. Harry wanted to forget it & prepare for the future; Cho ONLY wants to talk about Cedric. For the record, guys do not typically enjoy talking about your ex. And her ex is a glorified martyr to whom he cannot compare. And as I said earlier, Harry and Cedric were really friends for about a whole 2 minutes before he died. So Cedric was not a topic Harry wanted to fixate on. He is also exhausted, his head is hurting all of the time, and is practicing Occlumency with Snape. With everything Harry had going on, constantly talking about his girlfriend's perfect ex-boyfriend was eventually going to break them up. If Cedric didn't exist, or if Harry specifically was not the one to find him, they may have had a fighting chance.

      Cho and Harry had a date in Hogsmeade where Cho started crying. She wanted to talk about Cedric's death because it was traumatizing for her. And Harry was uncomfortable with her and was overwhelmed and didn't know how to handle the situation.
      I hate when people act like Cho was such a bitch. While she was just overwhelmed and emotional.

      Cho: But don't you want to talk about Cedric's death? I want to talk about it. And I'm sure it would help you to also talk about it.
      Harry: Oh, I do talk about his death. But with Hermione.

    • @martacastillo6272
      @martacastillo6272 Před rokem +20

      @@LilyUnicornI mean there's gradual hints throughout the series, the books are told from Harry's perspective, in the first ones he describes Ginny as a girl with blazing fiery red hair, like Ron's, but in a different manner (I suddenly think of that part in chamber of secrets when she had gotten that cough potion a lot of students were having that made smoke come out of everyone's ears, Harry said her head looked like coal on fire, and just like that, a lot of fiery hair descriptions) and bright brown eyes, I think these things meant that her appearance would catch his eye, even though it was at a minimal extent at the time.
      During those first years when she was to him "a crazy fangirl", that was obviously a reason to not be interested in her at all beyond her being his best friend's sister, Harry didn't enjoy at all being surrounded by people who "admired" him. And also he still wasn't showing romantic interests yet. Ginny was also going through the preteen years and was very shy and developing her own personality.
      During Harry's third year he met Cho who was on the Ravenclaw quidditch team and that's when he got his first crush on a girl (pretty pretty girl who plays quidditch wow). Ginny's still really shy around Harry, although there have been moments in which they had shared laughs (Percy's way of acting around his girlfriend for example).
      During the fourth book Ginny grows closer to Hermione and she advices her to relax and enjoy things, she becomes more comfortable about hanging out with the trio, and at this point she has already been venturing friendships at Hogwarts and is at ease from what we get to see in the books. She goes to the Yule Ball with Neville as friends. Harry was obviously focused on Cho. He did acknowledge that there were pretty girls in the Yule Ball, but he was too busy being sour about Cedric and Cho hehehe. And Ginny meets Michael Corner in the Yule Ball, so yep, starts hanging out with even more kids.
      During the fifth book Harry's processing Cedric's death and finally dates Cho, but realizes that he's not fond of her constantly asking him about Cedric, the crying kiss and her personality in the end. He realized that pretty pretty girl who's a quidditch player requires more specifications to find the ideal partner lmao. During the same book he bonds with Ginny over being possessed by Voldemort, she calls him on his bullshit and grounds him multiple times (let's remember how angsty and snappy he was in OoTP from all the stress), she shows her sense of humor, and introduces Luna to the trio, and joins the quidditch team when Harry gets banned (and ends up beating Cho lol). There's also a part when they're all at grimmauld place after Arthur's attacked by Nagini, they're all together for christmas and he describes Ginny "curled up like a cat on the couch watching the fireplace, the flames reflecting on her eyes". So pretty girl who plays quidditch who has a sense of humor that cheers him up and grounds him when he's going through the thick of it seems more like it. And they now hang out a lot.
      He then smells flowers in the amortentia in the sixth book and we find out that the fiery blazing long hair also has this "the Burrow is my home" scent. Then he finds pretty quidditch girl with the witty sense of humor who gets his voldy trauma (connecting dots here) and sees her full on making out with a boy from his team and thinks "hey, I wanna be the one doing the kissing🤨"

    cho needed someone to talk to about cedric that knew him like harry did, but she couldnt see how it always hurt harry. all hes done since it happened was explain it over and over, the last thing he wants to do is go over it again. and because harrys grief manifests in anger and self destructive behaviour, she cant recognise it because it doesnt look like her grief. but harry also refused to actually have these hard conversations with her and give her the closure she really needed, and then hed criticise her for not being over it when he is the last person to be throwing stones in this glass house. they simply didnt know each other well enough before this all happened, and in their grief couldnt see beyond themselves and acted very insensitive to each other

      Yea. They were both teenagers. It's not surprising that they both acted and reacted how they did. I think Cho also didnt recognize just how much watching Cedric be murdered was different from her experience. Because again. They're teenagers. They aren't supposed to be rational or mature.

    Harry was full of sass, I LOVE sassy Harry. They didn’t even ATTEMPT to bring that to the movies. And Cho was just crying 24/7. 😂

    Both of them were understandable, they were being themselves - mostly tho, that they both needed an insane amount of therapy.

    In the books, it was made clear that their relationship just couldn't last, but in the movies it just ended for no reason

      In the movies it ended because they made Cho the DA snitch instead of her friend. But the odd thing is that Snape revealed that Umbridge used the last of his truth serum on Cho, so Harry is at least aware that Cho didn’t purposely snitch on him, but nothing comes of it.

      In the book it was more morally ambiguous because she was defending the snitch on her own free will
