Broken SEIKO Thesaurus ER2000 with NO DISPLAY - Tea Break Fix

- Hi, in this video I attempt to fix a Seiko Thesaurus purchased from eBay for £4. It shows no display, just a tiny segment of black.
Remember that this is just for entertainment and I am not an expert in these repairs. The processes in the video may not be the best way, the correct way or the safest way to fix these things. I do love fault finding and trying to fix broken things, so I hope that comes across in this series.
Many thanks, Vince. - Jak na to + styl
I bought a cheap multimeter off AliExpress and from the start it had screen issues where everything would light up and when I test for voltage nothing would come on so I just left it in my drawer till today where it clicked in my mind about this video where you press the edges of the screen and it started showing stuff. The circuit board sits on a rubber strip which then displays the voltage and stuff, I first pressed the edges of the screen and to my surprise it started working, I took it off and just cleaned the circuit contacts and the rubber strip and put it back together and now it works without pressing the sides of the screen. Vince you are my hero!
When testing for words in a Thesaurus, you always put in the word Thesaurus. Cheers.
A theosaurus was a dinosaur with a large vocabulary.
Theosaurus Rex
Beat me to it lol!
@@krzbrew Theosaurus Lex
hahahahah! love it
@@sepgorut2492 this made me laugh way more than it should XD
5:44 Oh no! someone outbid your bid for that batch of broken consoles!
Funnily enough I've always called it a 'theosaurus' as well. Not sure where that came from but someone in my childhood must have said/taught it to me!
"I don't think we were seen...."
"Actually, Theo sawr us" :P
Ahh a toilet break fix, great for the bigger jobs.
These little fixes are really enjoyable
Nicely done 👍 I'm lost for words 😁
Very nice fix Vince. Keep it up! Really enjoy these quick fix video's
I love the device, it’s great you’ve brought it back to life.
You should check ebay for T-TIP soldering irons used for display repairs. Comes with a rubber band that transfers the heat evenly and makes lcd ribbon cable repair a lot simpler and theres less risk damaging the ribbon cable
Just loving this channel. So satisfying to watch. Had no idea seiko did these! Weirdly want one…
What a very smart little device, very useful. Lovely fix.
thank you Vince, i always learn something new from you. 😃
I just wanna thank you so much you saved me a 300 dollar headset becuase I thought it was broken
You are so good at fixing things
Loved that Line of Duty reference 😄
A nice video to watch on my birthday excellent timing and video Vince!
Cheers Jenson, Happy Birthday, hope you're having great one🎂🎂🎂
@@Mymatevince thanks!
Love your work and the demo of it working properly at the end
Great Job Vince... Love the videos !!!
Hi Vince
I'm a Seiko watch fan too, I have about 30-40 in my collection which include 'dancing hands', 'pepsi dial', 'monster dials' a 1980s lcd chrono alarm (bought new by me for a FORTUNE at the time!) a couple of the early 'twin-window' chronos which I believe are rare. and various other sub aqua seahorse examples.
I have a lovely 'phases of the moon' watch which my wife bought new for me (birthday) I hardly wore it, and when I took it to have the batt changed it wouldnt work!
I have tried to get it repaired, but apparently there is a circuit board fault and getting a replacement is impossible?
Ah well!
Regards
Chris
Brilliant.... absolutely brilliant!!
Theosaurus. A list of gods.
Easy fix! Good work. Thanks. 👍
When I was a kid, cramming paper and cardboard into things to fix these kinds of connectors wasn't unusual.
I had same issue I tried doing similar stuff but it didn’t work I didn’t try long enough I guess that’s what I should have done lesson learned don’t quit too soon
Great video brother
Wonderful gadget, really nice fix to, well done.
OMG I had one when I was young. I lost it, miss it, and want one again!
This took me back. Reminded me of the databanks that had a very similar form factor.
Great fix, similar to something I had as a child.
I think I had the same thing as a child
Nice fix. Seems to be similar device as my Canon ZX-300 organizer ☺
Great video 👍 another nice fix. I like the warm soldering iron trick, I bet I use that at some point. I mispronounce stiff in my vids all the time I don't think anyone cares much. Although my use of PCA or PCBA Vs PCB did cause debate. Anyway another great vid. Keep it up. Roger
Cheers Roger 👍👍
He was so excited to see that there was hangman LOL
Worth it just for the game if they are bored in the backseat of a car. I thought pressure would be the fix. Interesting to see it change colour when heated up and rebonded. Great fix
Your first name for it was more apt as it sounded like a species of Dinosaur which this Thesaurus now is. 😀
Vince invented a new dinosaur - the Theosaurus Rex.
A cup of tea...SO british. I like it.
Looking forward to the follow up in 10 or 20 years. :)
I still have this, and the battery still works. The screen has a few dead pixels though
I once see somewhere on aliexpress solder tip made just for this kind of job. Didn't save item and I'm not sure even what kind of key words to use in search but it exist and you should get one. It was in kit, few tips with different width using some kind of heat transfer silicone instead of standard pure metal tip.
Thesaurus Rex. Welcome to Jurassic Park.
Hey Vince I think you missed a trick there . Imagine the comments section blowing up correcting you If you hadn’t of put the disclaimer at the beginning 😉 I’m not sure how these algorithms work but lots of comments helps doesn’t it ? 😁
perfect tea time fix :)
Good vid😁
Awesome sauce!!!!!
finally you are using a table, it always looks like you are in the floor.
Nice fix =D
A nice little device but I think it's outdated yet. Anyway a nice little tea break fix.
4:38 - The label inside the lid shows three different years, namely 'Oxford University Press 1997' and ''Oxford University Press 1998' and also '1999 Seiko Instruments'. So I reckon it's probably from 1999/2000. Yeah, that's right - I'm an anorak.
3:05 Worked for me. Been married for years.
We need some biscuits to go with the tea mate.
I wonder is it the curled plastic acting like a spring and over time together with heat it slowly pulls away from the connection.
This style of connection is still been use to attach fpcb to camera module.
I have some old Sharp OZ organisers I wonder if they will be repaired using a similar technique. I've been told can't be repaired....
Ik this isn’t the topic of the video but I saw previous videos of the dvi and you used the blue one which one is that
Tea time! :D
Sweet
I had one of them!
what do you do with all the stuff you fix....I know you use to put them on eBay do you still do that
Instead of heating the strip, to fix my car radio display i wedged a thin silicon tube in between the case and circuit board.
What a sham! I was only able to down half a cup of tea in the 14:42 available. Now what am I supposed to do with the rest of this tea?
Drink it.
@@azeemn1333 why didn't I think about that?
@@Jeff121456 I don't know mate 😂😂😂
tadaaaah :D :D :D good job mate :)
i have a tablet it wont charge any help
Another victory
Use baking paper for protect the LCD plastic from burn !
Hey! Vince what did the clown say to the; Thesaurus? Put a good word in for me! 😂🖖👍
Didn't get it 😅,what does the clown have to do
i love you
as a kid i used to play hangman on my grandads one of these.
The problem will come back in a few days. I tried doing this with my phone some time ago.
Hey Vince and anyone in the comments really. I have a broken original xbox which doesn't turn on. I would try to fix it myself however I'd have to buy tools to do so. So does anyone know how to go about selling it
Spooky I found the exact one last week at a car boot
It almost sounds like you were saying "adthesive" instead of just adhesive. Maybe the Theosaurus was making you also say "adthesive"?
I remember my dad's old thesaurus that's dead now.
Or is it? Maybe now you can try and fix it.
Did a meteorite kill it?
@@InMeShed247 that's why I'm looking at this
In line of duty it was definately but I get the point lol
Raspberries??? I think they’re STRAWBERRIES, Vince.
That Hot Flex Connector is out of alignment....
a broken stegosaurus ... well done
Today we discovered Vince's grasp of english needs improvement :D
Have you previously not picked up on the complete lack of adverbs in his videos :-)
Someone stole my Thesaurus, I can't tell you how angry I am!
👍👍🇵🇱👍👍👍
These devices do have their use. Primary schools don't allow phones on site but do allow these so they're good for kids with dyslexia that want to correct their spelling.
🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖
The Theosaurus was Theo Huxtable's (a character on the show "The Cosby Show") biggest fan I believe...
A electronic Thesaurus??? Huh.
Fix a ps5 next
Tadaa... windows 95 sound
15 dyslexics gave it a fingers up
I want Nintendo to make more home consoles. I need more Nintendo Home Consoles in the future.

The main reason these were bought was for people playing crosswords!
When I had one when I was young it had games that were fun.
