Can this be done with brokerage accounts as well? I am debating whether to having a brokerage account in the Trust's name naming myself and my kids as the beneficiaries or should I create a brokerage account and just name the Trust as the beneficiary.

After I have made the trust the beneficiary of my life insurance do I have to register or file it with the Trust court?

Mary unless your estate is massive (over $12.8 million) or you have special needs beneficiaries, you are not helping your beneficiaries (likely your family) by putting your life insurance in your trust. It will ADD complexity and also will force your life insurance to pay income tax on the benefits of the life insurance policy.
