LYRICS
You are what you eat
That makes me eagle meat
Is black hole death alright?
Is that rat s--t or rice?
Do reflections have backs?
Does purgatory have snacks?
That's what I'm thinking
While you are talking
All thoughts come to me
While you talk through me
Rather be free
So I sink into the deep end of my own sea
That's what I'm thinking of
Sell a 3D movie
Then just put on a play
I bench less on Jupiter
Is Knower popular?
Do barnacles get bored?
Do hot girls like chords?
That's what I'm thinking
While you are talking
All thoughts come to me
While you talk through me
Rather be free
So I sink into the deep end of my own sea
That's what I'm thinking of

A prog metal jazz fusion funk band is what the world needs.
Basically the direction I wish Leprous went in, but after Bilateral they did... somethin' else, to say the least
@@colbyboucher6391I remember first hearing "restless" and being blown away... only to find out I wasn't really into anything after that album.
I also wish I knew what happened
@@Marionettetc Well, Einar did a solo album recently and I think it's a lot better than Aephelion, it seems like he's been stuck between wanting to do something different and expectations with Leprous for a while now
@@colbyboucher6391 that's true, they were also very young and still touring with Ihsahn then right? I got the feeling they didn't much after and just figured their sound changed dramatically.
I'll check out the solo album, I didn't know he released one
Ахах, да чувак!))
A hat that says "hat" is just incredible. What a time to be alive.
I was disappointed that the words on the shirt weren’t “shirt.” 😒
A hot “Hat” hat girl! 😂
And a shirt that says "Chicken Baby" a thousand times like she's straight out of The Shining
DO TRIANGLES EVEN PLAY CHRODS!?!?
@@Amins88 Nah - she's BABY CHICKEN !
Purgatory does have snacks. If it didn't, that would be hell.
They taste heavenly I'm sure
@@rileyb24 eh, they're fine
Aftertaste best served with that lovely flavour of jazz...
😂😂😂
That's a good one
that guitar solo came out of nowhere and I was obliged to receive it.
While they were jamming I scrolled through the comments, I saw yours and thought "Huh? What guitar so-" and then had my face melted
out of Knower!
😂
As soon as I saw that FBI pokerface I knew he would be up to no good.
It reminds me of the guitar solo in Rush's Freewill, where the drums and bass are as sick as the guitar solo, only jazz version instead of prog rock. You have to listen to it multiple times and pick out each instrument.
Need the perpetual joyous optimism Sam Wilkes has while playing absolutely ruinous bass riffs in my life
Shit I'd be cheesing too if I could play bass like that lol
Through it seems 4 octave pedals at once
Haha 🎉
49k cuántas visitas son?
Sam kicks ass!
The active bass line during the solo is nuts. Sam always having the absolute time of his life.
And Luis Cole makes them drums sing, as always.
It kinda reminds me of Doom bass riffs, but the jazz variant.
kinda sounds like Sungazer - "Sequence Start"
@@Mufozon first thing I thought of when I heard this. Glad someone else pointed that out.
To play incredible music is one thing, but to do so WHILE also sitting behind & complimenting a solo without stealing the attention of the listener, is something entirely else.
This song is euphoria
Ratner is like that guy in the kung fu movie who sits quietly in the background and late into the movie finishes his noodles and stands up and kicks everyone’s ass!
Sam W always looks like he's having the time of his life when he's behind that bass. love it
find someone who loves you like Wilkes loves playing the bass
strong contrast to Louis on the drums, it's very funny
not bass
@@hellspwnnix9514 But it is
@@cosmicpanda7043 no it's not bass guitar has four strings
There's no overstating what a godly drummer Louis Cole is.
Tight, technical, and inventive. The trifecta.
I saw a known face, i was wondering if he was the guy i've seen drumming some crazy beats like one decade ago. I was correct! Great to see he didn't disappear!
Dude has insane chops and gets so much out of a compact kit.
To be fair as a guitarist, I can say the same about the guitar solo, and a bassist would say the same for Wilkes.
This band is just phenomenal. All of them.
@@guiguijol yeah dont forget the hottie, here she's in the background but in songes like Overtime she really shines
This chorus is living rent free in my head
That's what I'm thinking of...

so insane to have lyrics as good as they do on top of already insane music.
@@AnthonyGobeilleArtist for real 💥
Sooooo nicely done is this musical outpouring of loveliness
I think I was tricked into listening to a Jazz song
Ratner's solo was absolute fire.
Facial expressions during the solo are also top notch lol.
So many clicks on 2:12 & 2:26 lmaooooo i fucking love this guitar solo
@@ectobluntus and that goes to Sam, he looks like he was getting oral
That opening riff gives me solid Clown Core vibes and I'm loving it
me too, and for good reason Louis Cole is the drummer in both bands
The guitar player in this song actually rips off a clowncore saxophone solo from the song "computers". Did u notice
@@CharlyTVgermanynah, that's an urban legend 🤭🤭
@@TheGrinXpedia I'm with you, man. Louis Cole has said repeatedly when asked during interviews; "I don't know what you're talking about."
I think Nightmare is the most clowncore one from this album but yeah this one also has it
Wait.
This is the studio version that is also on the album.
So they recorded the album live in a hallway?
I can't. These guys.
DIY4EVAR
To be fair two members of Knower recorded an album while in the back of a driving van.
@@kredonystus7768 Let's not forget those toilet ones while in Clowncore :D
To be fair it’s been theorized that Louis Cole’s house is a non-Euclidean space so that would make sense.
@@johnfitsch7781 Louis Cole is a Time Lord confirmed.
This sounds like funky Meshuggah and I can't get enough of it
totally does, and you know this no accident too. its like louis saying "yeah we can do THAT too"

When I first heard this and I got to the bridge I was like "omg they're fucking DJENTING"
Totalmente de acuerdo
Sounds like these two clowns I know
Its nice when 'hundreds of notes' was the correct and tasteful choice ❤
I'm laughing so hard right now!! 🤣
Knower busting out Meshuggah for the bridge was all sorts of awesome and unexpected!

Louis is finally getting all his leftover repressed Clowncore feelings out in a Knower song 😅

I WANT MORE ADAM RATNER EPIC SOLOS
I have seriously watched this like 200 times. I never get sick of that main groove.
Its like how Natalie Imbruglia sings in Trine Rein cover "Torn": Theres just so many things. This is so f**king good. I think I am past 60-70 now.
2:45 THAT FILL 🥁🔥
The completely unnecessary keyboard trade during the bridge is a nice touch
It's all a total of abundance from start to finish, I just hate it finished again..
I laughed really hard at the camera snap zooming in and out on the guy's finger as he was just holding down a single note
My new favorite KNOWER song! Genevieve--EVERYBODY--You are amazing!
Me: *Start to think I'm getting good in music.
Louis: *Drops a new song.
Me: *Gets humbled in 0.1 seconds.
These guys are constantly breaking the music boundaries, and show these skills as if it were the most easiest thing to do. God-like.
Thank you!
just have rhythm bro
Same, lol. Damnit, and here I thought I was going places. How can I continue when something like this exists? Haha, just kidding, of course I'll keep making music for my twelve fans. 🤓🤣
Word! I have shared your experience more than once. It had been a while for me. I was stale but acclimated. BAM! Nothing compares to being prepared for your first exposure to Knower. One of the best experiences of my entire life was hearing "Hanging On" for the first time.
There is no such thing as you being good in music then being humbled by what is perceived as “better”. That isn't how music works my friend. Keep making music that makes you feel good, because that is all that matters. The goal isn't to be the best.
@@thefuckenmanfulwhat? Your point is unclear and I believe I disagree. Self discipline, study and practice are worthwhile activities that bring musicians to another level. Music is a form of literacy, in spite of folkloric beliefs. Progress in any pursuit brings earned satisfaction. Humility is part of growth and should be embraced. Nothing feels better than a new skill,a new chord, a new song. My goal isn't to be the best but pointing in that direction makes me feel good. The best things both feel good are are good. Heroin feels good, commentating ignorantly from the peanut gallery feels good . . .
Sam Wilkes is a national treasure
I love him
Love those stacked EH pitch shifters. Such a dope sound.
This album was genuinely best knower has ever made. I have no idea how they can top themselves but this proves that they're certainly able to.
This album is the best anyone has ever made. But they’ll find a way to top it.

LIFE and KNOWER FOREVER are both 10/10 albums for me and I've only got like 8 albums ever that I give that rating to
So happy this got to 1M views - every track on the album should!!
Legitimately one of the most incredible songs I have ever heard.
If this was just the licks and solos, it'd be like a section from a straight down the middle Dream Theater song, but then we get insane synth tones, gorgeous extended chords, haunting vocals, and Louis' incredibly unique drumming style. KNOWER just constantly makes musical choices that feel surprising, exciting, and catchy, all at once, which I find is rare among prog music.
Thats b/c Knower isnt trying to be be prog, prog is trying to be Knower
adjective overdose
And what a great chorus. What a beautiful jazzy ethereal melody.
@@noklarokleast verbose prog blogger
I agree with you, it's totally fine to have an expansive idea of prog that includes pop elements. This is prog to me.
I had literally never heard of this band before this video showed up in my recommended, and I'm so glad it did. Excellent job. Bass guy looks like he's having fun lol
Lot of Knower search ahead 😊

It's insane how many different harmonies and rhythms are going on here, but everything somehow magically fits to create some great ear candy.
How are they so dang good? They're too powerful!!!!

Narrator: They did, in fact, keep getting away with it.
How do they all stay so tight, and chill, during that break!?!? So impressive! Love this band
They try easy
It's because every single musician here is like, technically very highly trained, through lots of instruction at the BA and MA level. They all have the chops and are absolutely sick, they aren't just hot rod self taught players- which are great, don't get me wrong. But there is a level of technical competence that comes from playing in organized musical college and these dudes have it. I think many have done session work. Like Paul Cornish was a prodigy on Piano, attended a prestigious music high school, and then got a full scholarship to the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz at UCLA. Louis Cole is a graduate level Jazz Drummer. Artadi also has a BA in Jazz Voice I think, Sam Wilkes was active in music across hip hop, indie rock, and Jazz from the age of 15 and went to college for music in LA (I think USC but I am not sure.). I think a lot of them met while at school in LA for music. Compared to most people making any form of pop music, they are titans in terms of technical skill.
@@michaelluong6484this is my fav comment
Practice. And lots of it.
USC jazz
I wish pop music sounded like this. We need a musical revolution.
This is the revolution 😂🎉😮
I'd prefer they stay on the niche side, I like being able to get cheap tickets to see them in small venues lol
there is *loads* of great music being made Right Now.
The music mainstream is never going to give us what we want on a plate, as long as they are chasing hits.
Screw them, and follow the artists you like directly. It is a golden age for music, for anyone who is ready to go looking.
Pop music was always mediocre at best, and always will be. It's not intended for people who have an interest in music. Occasionally something interesting breaks through and ends up being popular. When that happens a small number of pop listeners will get turned on to what music can be and it will change their lives forever. Watching that happen is a beautiful thing.
@@Pushing_Pixels There is nothing mediocre about George Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Hoagy Carmichael, Cole Porter, Burt Bacharach or Antonio Carlos Jobim (and of course there are other brilliant musicians and songwriters working in the pop idiom) ... but otherwise I agree
Once you’ve listened to it a few times, close your eyes and just listen to the drums. Louis killed it on this song. The skills and the groove.
There has never been a moment where Louis hasn’t killed it on the drums!
Not as hard as Paul killed it with two fingers holding down one note - absolute mad man.

People always bring up Sam Wilkes' enthusiasm, but you can tell Jacob Mann is enjoying the hell out of himself on all of these songs as well. He's not as animated, but dude is having a blast.
Love how this piece really brings out the virtuosity of Paul Cornish's playing
Especially at the end he was cooking…

I love Meshuggah, I love Dirty Loops, I love Clown core and I love fast jazz solos. But I might just love KNOWER even more!
Love all of them but meshuggah got real lyrics
Loving Clown Core is loving KNOWER anyway, although the two bands are (not) related.
Except for the chorus, this sounds like a Meshuggah song. Isn't 2:10 a Meshuggah riff?
Sounds similar to Rational Gaze @@bigswaggy298
The climax @2:49 is just soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good, Wilkes going thumping with Cole's beat just makes my heart go boom!

2:45 This drum fill is actually astonishing, especially when the guitar joins it at the end... oh my god ❤🔥
Yeah, this drummer is sick.

The guitar solo makes me happy
Ever since I heard this song when I disassociate I hear it in my head and that is a large portion of my life. 10/10.
2:50 listening to Adam walk down through that minor 7th is like getting slapped. Brazen AF. LEGEND
2:11 I really love the Rational Gaze riff, it was so unexpected and so cool!
I thought the same. XD
I'm liking this Jazz Fusion Meshuggah cover band!
No wonder I wanted to make a metal rendition of this part. NICE
Tomas Haake is about the only drummer doing anything in metal that is as interesting to me as Louis’ drumming. Tons of amazing metal drummers but there’s just something about Haake that’s creative in an unfathomable way. Blake Richardson is my favourite metal drummer, but I’ll even admit he’s no Tomas Haake.
Yeah the angular min9 instantly reminded me of the 'shugg
Doesn't matter where or when - Sam's bass playing is always a show in and of itself.
In my head that's how good I am at bass
Genuine feckin goosebumps when the chorus hits
Give it a rest, simp.
That is legitimately one of the greatest guitar solos I have ever heard coupled with the drums and the vocals at the end. Phenomenal. Perfectly timed.
Guitar solo sealed this as my favorite song of the album, killer track indeed
I LOVE LOVE LOVE how this song appears to be Genevieve's answer to "I'm Tight" in which Louis tells us the thoughts that come to him. And Genevieve is wearing the HAT hat from the "I'm Tight" video! Seriously, check out the lyrics in each song.
I love Sam! He's the glue that holds this all together!
That bass tone is so tasty!
Wow! Ratner comes in hot on that solo! Knower is endlessly creative.
I CAN NOT STOP LISTENING TO THIS SONG!!! This is absolutely baller! My favorite track on an album full of favorite tracks. I'm glad the video is out so I can shout it to the world. Strong contender for my song of the year!!
Yea I mean this song changed my stupid boring rainy dark day to a something where this song is blasting away and making me cry over the reprise's awesomeness
It's actually a fat loop but if they hadn't broke it before putting it up then everyone would be trapped on this video forever.
It's a regular source of pure joy!
always blown away by the amount of skill everyone in this group has developed over the years, but that they also just know how to make beautiful music and it's not just showing off
Sam Wilkes is a god
I didn't look at who uploaded this, so I just read the title and thought "Of course. Everyone likes chords..." expecting some hot take video, then clicked and got smacked in the face with a jam. What a pleasant surprise.
The way the bass and guitar interact in the solo is so perfect
YO, THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR. That solid feeling of a mix between Clown Core and Knower, and yet evolving further.
Such a gorgeous track. Thank you.
Edit: Listening to the album now on Spotify - THIS IS QUALITY. I LOVE YOU GUYS.
I am extremely pleased that this is one of their most popular videos ever.
My current car is the first I've had with a good sound system, and Jesus this song goes through it a lot.
I love the style.. no flash blinking lights, only tight spaces, only EXTREMELY GOOD MUSIC... I'm in awe!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
that solo guitar tone is pure hell
It's like each of them does whatever the hell they want, together.
You know it's good when Jacob Mann expresses emotion.
Need to say it again. Louis’s drumming on this is sick.
that guitar riff during the bass solo was sick!
I've been listening to this at least 3 times a day.
I literally burst out laughing when Adam started that guitar solo at 2:30 - unbelievable!
Listening to these guys is akin to watching a magic trick.
same lol
it amazes me that knower songs give a vibe where coming in on an absurdly ripping solo is funny first and cool as hell second
For real, Louis Cole has perfected the art of like...virtuostic musical comedy. So many moments in this album and multiple even on this song make laugh out loud (like when Genevieve asks if hot girls like chords then that fat chord gets overdubbed and crescendos until they all hit that super clean release together). It's all so unserious and yet so serious at the same time.
it's tasty
After being trapped underground in the grip of the tightest funk, the solo catapults you into the sky to fly free as a bird
This song, lyrically and musically is the ultimate ADHDers anthem. It's gonna take a long while for that chorus to get out of my head, I love it. ❤
What do you mean by this? I recently discovered I have it also and this music lights my soul on fire!
@@jackmermigas9465 The content of the lyrics themselves are pretty much an anthem to ADHD in a sense lol. Verses are completely out of left field thoughts, and then the chorus says "that's what I'm thinking when you're talking"
Funny I never noticed this until I read these comments because my brain tunes out on lyrical meaning because I'm usually too lost in the music
@@meller7303the lyrics to me seem about the story teller being tired and bored with the person they're involved with and has checked out on the relationship completely. Not even remotely interested in any conversation about anything with them.

Also - much respect for Paul’s willingness to be a role player when needed.
Somewhere, a Death riff and a Meshuggah riff collide. And get funkified. Fuck, this rules.
It is so imaginative. The contrast between the verse and the chorus is mindblowing.
Over a decade of Knower being phenomenal. Some groups that have been around longer are up and down when it comes to their music, with some stuff being alright and others not so alright. Knower has been consistent, that's pretty rare. Even more rare when the artists don't have the funding of a major label and years of airtime on the radio.
